Search Google for 'football' and you get a load of 'American football' links mixed in with the national results. Besides, 'soccer' is just a shortened version of "Association football," so in spirit, it contains the more globally popular name within itself. If you'd like, you can think of it as a nickname, which it basically is. We don't make any fuss when Brits ask "What's on telly?" We get it. It means television. And what's on television? Soccer. Or football, if you prefer :)

      and as an american who lives in argentina, i'd argue (judging by all the fat people in the u.s.) that americans have a much worse eating disorders. those statistics are skewed mostly by buenos aires. if you look at the country (argentina) as a whole, the lifestyle + genetics + exercise + reduced portions of food/lack of utter food waste, you have naturally more beautiful people, and that extends to everyone, especially the women. the men don't give a rats ass how they look because they are surrounded by beautiful women, yet there are no real eating disorders in the male segment of the population, and you'd be hard pressed to find a fat guy in argentina.

Also, eating disorders generally doesn't refer to obesity, I was talking about anorexia and bulemia, for which Argentina has 3 times as many people with these diseases than the US.

        and as far as argentina goes, i spend half the year in the interior where you will hardly find those disorders because you don't have the societal pressure you have in the big city (buenos aires). and my other point was, look at the men, you don't find fat men with big guts (yes, there are a few, but not as many as in the states). on a diet of meat and pasta, how do they achieve that? in all my years, i've never met an anorexic or bulimic argentine man, so something is different with their culture, and it can't be pinned on eating disorders alone.

    • lamech, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At my work they encourage web browsing as a means of "taking a break" - but you aren't leaving the office so people can still get a hold of you easily, and you are back to work sooner. People can't work 8 hours straight - it's important to give your brain a rest ever 3 hours or so or you will burn out very quickly. Especially if you are a cubicle worker like myself. Hell - browsing the web is even in our "work safety" presentation.
