- kenny113, on 03/12/2008, -27/+1140Kevin, I think it's time to refuse GoDaddy's sponsorship of DiggNation!
- samiam0007, on 03/12/2008, -18/+827well, GoDaddy just lost my respect, and any future business...
- automate, on 03/12/2008, -10/+457transfer your domains off godaddy
- ginosesto, on 03/12/2008, -7/+439Amazingly rackspace was able to do in 2 hours what godaddy couldnt do in 2 days. I will never use that service again. My domains will be moved.
- moxley, on 03/12/2008, -10/+358I have about a hundred domains registered through GoDaddy.com.
I will be moving them all to another registrar this week and making sure that they know the reason is because of things like this *****.
I plan on escalating my call all of the way up the chain as far as I can prior to telling them I am taking my domains so that I can exlain it to someone further up the chain than first line customer service.
Can anyone recommend a better registrar?
I know of many; I don't want to use Network Solutions as their tendrils reach into some places I'd rather not give control of my domains to - and I don't want to use some "fly-by-night" ***** lest I experience a debacle along the likes of registerfly.
Maybe they will care I am leaving, maybe they wont - but it will feel good to send a message and make sure they know one one case where their censorship has cost them over a thousand dollars a year. I would recommend others do the same with their domains.
This company needs to feel some sting for their fascist actions. - Twister47, on 03/12/2008, -6/+272One of my biggest headaches as a web developer has always been that it seems incredibly difficult to find a reliable/honest/good hosting company. These are the kind of things we should not have to worry about.
- Idgit, on 03/12/2008, -5/+232"Chief Dyer wants to get legislation passed that would make RateMyCop.com illegal, which, of course, wouldn't pass constitutional muster in any court in America."
I'm not sure if any courts care about upholding the constitution anymore. - MrSarcasm, on 03/12/2008, -1/+227Hm, I wonder if this could be aired on diggnation. I mean, it's a sponsors, but this story is worth to ***** talk about.
Well, Kevin Kevin Rose, will you dare to take the garden hose? - fhunter666, on 03/12/2008, -6/+204vote with your feet, there is no reason to do business with folks like godaddy with all of the other options available. GoDaddy, go, just go away
- RealmDown, on 03/12/2008, -4/+196The more the police protest this, the more I think they have something to hide, and the more I support the idea of this website.
- moxley, on 03/12/2008, -6/+133I agree.....What good is having a progressive business (well I am sure the money is nice) if you can't use it's power to vote with your feet and stand up against tyrannical behavior.
Do it..Get that warm feeling in your heart. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -5/+127Cancelled my accounts with them and moved my domains, its only about $150 a year loss for them but at least i'm not part of the problem.
This makes me really mad. - NoCt1, on 03/12/2008, -13/+130If cops werent dicks they wouldnt be worried,
- cykyc, on 03/12/2008, -1/+105Wikileaks and others faced the same issue. I've used Gandi.net for years now just to insulate myself from stupid US-based registrars that overstep their authority. Just stupid.
- jtwilkins, on 04/03/2009, -6/+101I a long time customer who had HELL to get his domain off of the most un-userfriendly domain host ever I am NOT surprised of this. It follows in line with all the other stunts and censorship they pull yearly.
- Innisskillin, on 03/12/2008, -3/+96This site wouldn't put police officers in danger, this would help improve the image of them. That is, if they do a good job. It would also put a human face to the uniform. If citizens of the city got to know their police officers they would earn more repsect, not less. It is only the police officers that abuse their power and authority in a negative way. This site should be celebrated as a great idea instead of boycotted.
- hookedonit, on 03/12/2008, -4/+94yes rackspace is the space and the place. Thanks to Adrianna at rackspace for the support on getting the sites moved..
- barnis, on 03/12/2008, -7/+84GoDaddy Go Bankrupt!
- danielrh9, on 03/12/2008, -3/+79I've been a GoDaddy customer for over a year now, however they will NOT be getting any future business from me.
GoDaddy obviously follows Digg, hopefully they should be made aware that we're not happy with this, nor will they get our business or word of mouth advertising. If anything, I'm now suggesting against using them for this very reason. - radink360, on 03/12/2008, -6/+75***** godaddy. No business from me anymore.
- danielrh9, on 03/12/2008, -1/+69Kevin and Alex just discussed on the last episode how they don't want to appear to ignore topics. Put your money where your mouth is, boys. Let's see this story brought up. If this story gets enough diggs and gets ignored on the show, we'll know exactly why.
- sport11rocks, on 03/12/2008, -3/+70I think we should test Kevin's journalistic integrity by digging the story way up.
- wild, on 03/12/2008, -16/+76100 domains? What are you a squatter?
- RichG13, on 03/12/2008, -1/+59the website may be back but not with GoDaddy:

www.RateMyRegistrar.com
Now, if only I can find someone to register it with... - DarkPhoen1x, on 03/12/2008, -5/+62This is *****. I hope they had backups.
- 1jaxstate1, on 03/12/2008, -1/+52So everyone should digg this, and get GoDaddy some bad press. I wonder on what terms did they take the site down. If the site didn't break any "terms of service" rules, GoDaddy has seriously overstepped their boundaries.
- redDC143C, on 03/12/2008, -1/+51Use NearlyFreeSpeeh.net - it's only a buck more and they basically will refuse any take down attempts short of a US court order.
https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net - NuFadZoo, on 03/12/2008, -2/+51I dugg this just to see if it would make it on Diggnation.
- thedude13, on 03/12/2008, -2/+51i am not surprised they did this because they've done it before. When Fyodor (author of nmap) was given only 52 seconds of notice before his site was shut down because he exposed MySpace's security holes and posted the proof. GoDaddy also took money from Microsoft to transfer all of their parked domains from Apache to IIS in a desparate attempt by MS to increase their HTTP server marketshare.
Check out http://nodaddy.com/ for more GoDaddy horror stories. - mleaman, on 03/12/2008, -18/+67I refuse to do business with clients who use GoDaddy.
- IamandI, on 03/12/2008, -2/+50I totally agree, its time we use this to our advantage.
- Harboggles, on 03/12/2008, -4/+50Gonedaddy.
- moxley, on 03/12/2008, -0/+46I think I will take by business to rackspace also. Glad to hear they weren't able to cripple your site permanently.
- airiox, on 03/12/2008, -3/+46Uh generally I would agree, but not in this situation. There is no reason for this site to be censored. What's a good cop got to fear? The Police Officers that I've dealt with have all been very courteous and have done there job well. Are you saying that me going on a site looking up their name and giving them a good rating as a token of my gratitude should be censored by private organizations and the government alike.
There was nothing illegal or immoral with this site and godaddy had no right ethically to do what they did (I'm sure they covered themselves legally though). - SnapETom, on 03/12/2008, -0/+43Why the ***** is everyone surprised? Stories about GoDaddy's sleeziness (domain hijacking, ***** customer service, etc) has been showing up for years. Yet, I'm always amazed by the number of supposedly geeky people I knew that used them. Must be the boobs in the commercials.
- crzdmn, on 03/12/2008, -3/+44"'Having a website like that puts a lot of law enforcement, in my eyes, in danger because it exposes us out there,' Officer Hector Basurto, vice president of the Latino Police Officers Association, told ABC television affiliate KGO."
Wait a second here... It's only a problem because their on RateMyCop.com??? What about the news articles, press releases, press statements, OHH THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT that makes everything they've put on the web public domain anyway. - Xanrez, on 03/12/2008, -2/+43The site is back up and running. A quick whois report shows that the site is now registered through Name.com.
Domain Name: RATEMYCOP.COM

Name Server: NS1.MYCPANELHOST.INFO
Name Server: NS2.MYCPANELHOST.INFO - misterhat, on 03/12/2008, -5/+41If they've done nothing wrong they have nothing to hide.
- budgetguitar, on 03/12/2008, -1/+36I am not renewing my domain with GoDaddy because of this. If they want to be a cowardly company that changes the rules when they see fit then they can do it with someone elses money. I also urge Digg and Diggnation to either refuse GoDaddy sponsorship, or at least mention this cowardly act on the part of GoDaddy.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -6/+39Godaddy can lick my nuts.
- joaob, on 03/12/2008, -1/+33Where are you getting $6.95 domain names? Surely not GoDaddy.
- purag66, on 05/13/2009, -0/+31Gandi.net

- JoshuaLowe, on 03/12/2008, -0/+28GoAwayDaddy.
- victorycig, on 03/12/2008, -0/+28If only TPB had been able to purchase Sealand, we would have a safe harbor for hosting controversial sites.
- Gryffydd, on 03/12/2008, -2/+30They lost my respect with their stupid commercials...
