- PleaseJustDie, on 12/04/2007, -0/+23the cat didn't free itself, the family caught it when it was too malnurished to run away anymore when they found it and used oil to free the cat. RTFA.

- sporg, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I found a cat with a peanut butter jar on its head on an interstate on ramp a few years ago. I dont believe the cat stuck its head into the jar as it was jammed on there very tightly. I think some sick kids who need their ass beat stuck it on there.
One of my neighbors adopted the cat and its doing well.

- bollander, on 12/04/2007, -18/+5I hate to say it, but I think cats get terminally ill if they aren't fed for a few days. This cat is probably ***** up beyond repair.
And the pet's owners are cruel for not catching it earlier...if that was my cat, I'd be out there 24/7 until I caught it and got the jar off and fed it.- ElAssoWipo, on 12/04/2007, -1/+15"I think cats get terminally ill if they aren't fed for a few days"
Can I use this in my stand-up routine? - slashbot, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6Source???
- idntunknwn, on 12/04/2007, -0/+8Other articles state explicitly that it wasn't their cat. The cat is actually feral and doesn't belong to them, they just happen to feed it every so often
- Godlesswanderer, on 12/04/2007, -0/+12With cat's naturally being hunters, I'm sure it's normal for a wild/feral cat to have not eaten for a few days. I highly doubt that they get terminally ill if they don't eat for a few days.

- MuadDave, on 12/04/2007, -2/+52I was traumatized as a child by something similar. A neighbor found their cat in their back yard having suffocated with a tin can stuck on its head.
Ever since then I've crushed metal can openings into this shape () before disposing of/recycling them - no kidding. It was that traumatic.- extratired, on 12/04/2007, -23/+3your neighbor finds a dead cat and you get traumatised?
- MuadDave, on 12/04/2007, -1/+32I was 5 or 6, and I came over to see what they were doing - they had just discovered the cat, and I saw it. Can you imagine how furiously the poor thing must've clawed at the can as it was dying, unable to see what was killing it? I don't have to imagine - I saw its bloody paws, the scratches on the can, and the scratches on its head. What a scary, painful death for an innocent animal.

- Braingoo, on 12/04/2007, -6/+6How hard exactly is it to catch a cat with a jar stuck on its head. come on. How does it know where to run and hide. I blame retarded owners. Great diet plan though.

By the looks of the thread, most of us haven't seen this before. Also, are you new to Digg? Old stuff gets submitted every day. That's just the way it works when we get new users each month. - DephexTwin, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1We look forward to your superior contributions, Doopliss.

- hockey, on 12/04/2007, -0/+15Wouldn't the cat have died of dehydration?
- Doopliss, on 12/04/2007, -3/+5It was fat.
- Cougarcat, on 12/04/2007, -1/+25Cats can actually survive quite a long time without water. They have amazing kidneys.
- fonebone2, on 12/04/2007, -0/+9They're also prone to kidney problems because owners don't realize the importance of making fresh water available to them and the cats spend much of their lives semi-dehydrated without anyone realizing it.
- Raerth, on 12/04/2007, -1/+3Yep, Cats evolved in a semi-desert enviroment so can survive fairly long without water. fonebone2 is right though, too many people don't give them enough water despite this.
- ryansmith18, on 12/04/2007, -2/+1Hmm...I'm gonna test this theory......with vodka. New lolcats pic coming soon.
- Ajenthavoc, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Test the kidneys with vodka? FYI, alcohol is metabolized by the liver, not filtered out of the body by the kidneys.
- ryansmith18, on 12/05/2007, -1/+1Yeah...and? I'm still gonna test it Vodka dammit. Why the hell would you want to use water when you can get a cat drunk instead?
- Ajenthavoc, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Test the kidneys with vodka? FYI, alcohol is metabolized by the liver, not filtered out of the body by the kidneys.

- ryansmith18, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5It means the druid is more adept at tanking and damage dealing rather than being a caster. Right?

- idntunknwn, on 12/04/2007, -1/+17The article in question did some not so good reporting. If you read some other articles you would find out that the cat is actually feral. It's not their cat, they just happen to feed it every so often

- scottique, on 12/04/2007, -2/+9This is the actual article, once you click past the (blogspam?) summary:
"Tabitha Cain used to call her cat Wild Oats for several years, but now she's thinking of changing the name to Survivor.
That's because she says the cat survived for 19 days with a peanut butter jar stuck on its head.
"We tried to get her, but being the type of cat you can't catch, she kept running and hiding," said Doretha Cain, Tabitha's mother.
The family saw the cat several times with the jar on its head and tried in vain to catch it. But after not seeing the cat for a week, the Cains feared the worst.
"I thought she was going to die with that jar on her head," said Tabitha Cain, 25.
They found the once chubby cat on Wednesday, too thin and weak to flee. They caught her with a fishing net and used some oil to get the jar off her head.
They gave her water and treated her wounds and on Friday she began to eat again.
"I've heard of cats having nine lives but I think this one has 19 because she survived 19 days," Doretha Cain said.
Memphis veterinarian Gerald Blackburn said he's heard similar stories of pets getting trapped for days or even weeks at a time and surviving. Blackburn said the cat may have lived off of its excess fat." - madm0nk, on 12/04/2007, -1/+7Apparently cats can go much longer than humans without water
- wipis, on 12/04/2007, -2/+27Put a sock on a cats head. A lot of cats freeze. More just walk backwards and shake their heads. The smart ones put a paw on the sock and pull it off. No matter what it's hilarious. Yes I'm going to hell but my cats love me anyway.

- anarchytv, on 12/04/2007, -0/+18Our cockatiel died this way... in a half full glass of water. Landed on the rim, and stuck his head down in to take a drink. Fell face down in, tail feathers sticking straight up, and drowned, no clawing or screaming under water would help for sure... while my parents watched TV oblivious to what was going on behind them. I came down the stairs, looked over the bird face straight down in the glass, thought it rather odd, and was at something of a loss for words to say.
That's life... one moment you're alive, doing something so incredibly commonplace and harmless, and the next moment you're in a night mare situation fighting for your life and probably SOL dead. Happened to me once or twice. Terrifying.- fotbr, on 12/04/2007, -1/+10you've been dead once or twice?

- Kuabarra, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Maybe it was smart and just dipped its head into a stream or toilet. Water could leak in and it could drink it. But i think they exaggerated about the time. It was proly a week TOPS
- khyberkitsune, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6Actually, there have been cats that have survived for weeks in airports without water or food. Just because a human can't go that long doesn't mean other animals can't.
- frieddonuts, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1My cat lived for a week stuck 60 feet up a tree. I had to climb up and get it. Moral- the fire department is no help when your cat gets stuck.
- handjob, on 12/04/2007, -0/+319 days by far defeats my personal record
- chsbrgr, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5Nixon has you both beat by 1000 years
- Darkneuros, on 12/04/2007, -6/+1I'm going to leave a butt load of various sized jars around my truck, maybe keep some of the little ***** off my paint, gawd I hate cats!
Dug for innovative pest control! - drfierce, on 12/04/2007, -4/+1Oh baloney, while it is possible to live off your fat reserves for a while, you can't live without water for more than a few days, certainly not for 19 days. If this had really been the case, the cat would have died of dehydration a long time before using up all the body fat. As well, how slow can you be if you can't catch a cat that is handicapped by a peanut butter jar on its head?
- razorc03, on 12/04/2007, -5/+1Man, this is more fake than Paris Hilton. Had this been real, the title should have read "Cat holds breath for 19 days: no water, no food!"
- curiousgrge, on 12/04/2007, -2/+2Isn't that something similar to what Davis Blaine did when he was trapped in that ice block?
- gudnbluts, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Yeah, but he ruined the trick by surviving.
- razorc03, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Haha! I got buried for common sense. Bunch of idiots on digg.

- SteveTheSultan, on 12/04/2007, -13/+3Cats are good for nothing
- xero69, on 12/04/2007, -2/+1They catch and eat rats/mice. But then again they also eat song birds. Oh well, at least they make people happy as pets.
- Wacer, on 12/04/2007, -1/+1My cats have caught 4 mice near the entrance to my home just last summer. I feed them dry and moist cat food and they still like to defend my house from mice.
- madm0nk, on 12/04/2007, -3/+1Cats are more for entertainment that to serve a practical purpose. As a matter of fact, dogs are the only pet I can think of that can be used to help accomplish a task (hunting, tracking, etc). Anyways cats are fierce predators and are cool as hell to watch. And my Siamese cat kicked our dogs (Doberman) ass on several occasions.
- gudnbluts, on 12/05/2007, -1/+1This is obviously not the case as they are good at watching you masturbate.
- Reno582, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1My step-mother's cat Mikey had a jar on his head for 3 days before she found him and pulled him out of it, hes going to be 19 years old this year.
