- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -27/+229"Daddy? Why did the Air Force shoot up my school?"
"Because you touch yourself at night." - vblvbl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+139These school shootings just keep getting worse.
- faulkner, on 10/12/2007, -6/+106that's pretty damn quick for a government institution to apologize.
- hoppdawg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+71Damn violent video games.
- martalli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+63It took two years to pay anything?
- PrinceofSpace, on 10/12/2007, -5/+57Does anybody remember that Calvin and Hobbes comic strip where Calvin imagines himself blowing up his school with a F-16?
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50What they don't mention is that a bunch of the elementary school kids immediately returned fire.
- GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Well obviously it's the damn controller's fault. I mean what do you expect, you take out the rumble effect and put in some motion sens--wait, what was this article about?
- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Anyone remember the Calvin and Hobbes strip in which Calvin fantasizes about using an F-16 to reduce his school to smoldering rubble?
- RawShark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27It was only damage to the physical structure of the building and it was an accident. What else do you want? Pain and suffering? Punitive damages? The reward was likely generous and exceeded the physical damages to the structure of the school. Good enough provided they see to it that this kind of thing doesn't happen again. They were damn lucky the school was vacant. I don't know if it was a mechanical error or pilot error but this kind of event seems to be exceedingly rare. You certainly don't' hear of it that often which is why this event is notable.
- ff3j, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Haha, that was the first thing I thought of too...
Found a copy of it: http://www.marcellosendos.ch/comics/ch/1988/11/19881106.gif - awm4, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32Sounds like something from a Calvin and Hobbs comic
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28Don't be stupid, it's not just me referring to the little bastards as "terrorists." Finally, someone has the balls to stand up to these ruffians!
- aramova, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20It was done at night, with no children in it, FTA
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Because all good training maneuvers need to take place over New Jersey...
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16No, he was correct. If they'd been actually thinking of the children, they would have had better aim.
- Hydraulix, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23That will teach them to hid a oil rig under the monkey bars.
- ZeroG52, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Calvin was in an F-15, not an F-16. I have the comic right here but no way to scan it. Maybe it can be found on Google.
Edit: http://www.marcellosendos.ch/comics/ch/1988/11/19881106.gif - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17be happy they were only training with inert ammo.
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15'What does this button do?'
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15No child left behind...........or alive.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17damn, i was hoping for real good stuff like bunker buster missiles. the video on that would be AWESOME
- sintaxi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Not that its important but I think thats a F-15 in the Calvin and Hobbs bit.
- coit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Shoot first, ask questions later...
- belfastbiker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"[...] but also said poorly designed controls in the F-16 played a role."
WHAT?
They're blaming the plane??
Yeah, they should probably ban all F16's from flying now I guess, if they're contributing to shooting up ***** schools. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Sometimes I think the background music for the US Armed Forces should be the Benny Hill theme song.
- beezn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15as I remember it there was only a janitor in the school and he thought it sounded like someone running across the roof.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Janitors.
- vladimonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Yeah it's about time they pay something. My friend's mother works at this school and apparently there was like $1million in damage, and the government's first offer was something like $25,000. Talk about ridiculous.
How scary that this sort of "accident" can ever happen. - darkenigma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't know why they are digging you down when this is exactly what he said in an interview. They probably think you're joking.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The pinelands burn by design. Mighty hardy ecosystem!
- deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Inert ammo that left 2" holes in the roof. If someone knows what the "air cannon" that's referenced in th article actually does I'd be interested to know. Were they just live rounds that don't have an explosive slug, or are they completely different in operation.
- iceblade, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Now if only I get get them to target the place where I work.........
- wbskeet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6btgoss you are a mind reader....
Headline from Reuters
Allstate to stop writing new NJ homeowner policies
http://today.reuters.com/news/articleinvesting.aspx?view=CN&storyID=2006-12-07T175842Z_01_N07255079_RTRIDST_0_ALLSTATE-NEWJERSEY-CORRECTED.XML&rpc=66&type=qcna - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sintaxi's right, note the twin engines and tail fins. F-16 has one of each. Nonetheless, that comic is the first thing that came to my mind as well.
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5.....And that was the last time The Air Force let Dick Cheney behind the wheel of a F-16.
- thewaz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15"The Best Air Force in the World"
(which i cant wait to get out of on June 15th) - Oracle95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wouldn't a simple "Ooops" be enough?
- durakbane, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7the charring is due to controlled burns and is called 'fire ecology'.
- motorbreathx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Probably for stating the obvious?
- fadeout, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Maybe the pilot thought Canadian NATO troops were hiding in the school?
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Their agreement goes a long way towards repairing the actual damages to the school building as well as keeping their relationship with the community healthy."
---------------------
Well, we can't expect them to go the whole way towards repairing the actual damages to the school ... the school had it coming after all. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Yeah, that happens a lot. Another meth-head pilot forgetting he's not in North Korea or over a Canadian base in Afghanistan.
- vblvbl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8But apparently not near enough.
Oooohhhh! - mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4making it RIGHT would have had the Army corp of engineers out before sunrise to just FIX it! They would have done whatever it took to put it back and not billed anybody anything... Especially because this is a govt owned school... Just fix it... NOW!! Should have been the only response.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@deuceswilde
If you read the rest of the article you'd notice it says that the weapons normally fire exploding rounds. By them being inert it means they don't explode. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A big *GO NAVY!!* should do it.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"can I shoot at my school when I'm old enough to fly?!!"
"you sure can little billy! Why even little sally can do it!!!" - bradford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Otto
I have never laughed so hard at digg comment. Well played sir. - TheSaladMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They've gotta practice shooting at schools in this country so that they can be sure to hit the schools in other countries.
