- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+59Do you really think someone would be so obvious if they were trying to commit fraud? Could easily be a typo.

- FrontFootProd, on 10/11/2007, -10/+43Every tooth has five surfaces, front, back, left, right and top... It is possible to have up to 5 cavities per tooth so 52 cavities is absolutely possible...
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29RTFA. ""Human beings typically have 32 teeth. When a dentist tries to get paid for filling 52 teeth in one mouth in one day, it should raise some red flags." Unless we're talking about some sort of mutant here, or someone who managed to have 20 teeth with two cavities each (that happened to be in places such that two separate fillings were needed), it's impossible.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31And fill them all in less than 3 hours? I don't think so.
- Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -30/+56Am I the only one who read it as "Month" and wondered what the big deal was...
- EnjoyFailure, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26You're all anti-dentites!
- BigSax, on 10/11/2007, -4/+26If that was the case he would have had the dentisit shoot him 9 times before installing the grill.
- coasterswim, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Maybe he filled all the baby teeth, they fell out, the permanents grew in and he filled those, too. You know... in an hour.
- SuperCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17If you can find over 8 cavities in between all of my molars and fill them all in within 2 hours, I'll give you 6 billion dollars.
And a medal for being the best ***** dentist alive. Ever. - antiver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+144 out of 5 dentists digg this.
- mitrovarr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12I have a hard time believing someone could need 52 cavities filled but not need any other kind of work. If a person's teeth were in such poor shape, they'd probably need a whole range of treatments - some of the cavities would probably be large enough to need caps or deep enough to need root canals, some would probably have to be pulled, they might have infections of the gum tissue, etc. Those other treatments would be higher priority than getting fillings.

- lacr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Agreeing with mitrovarr.
I'm a dental assistant, and there's ABSOLUTELY no way that is possible. We have a 15 yr old patient who has poor dental hygiene and has over 10 cavities and we only fill about 1-5 each visit he comes in. You have to take into account that he may need an anesthetic to relieve the pain and you'd have to administer that anesthetic in different parts of the mouth depending where the cavities are. With that being said, a good dentist wont numb their patient up in every spot of their mouth...it's too dangerous. If you whole mouth is numb, you won't understand where your biting down, where your tongue is and you risk biting your tongue/cheek/lip and causing it to bleed and/or swell. You need a part of your mouth to not be numb to associate the difference of feeling.
You can definitely have cavities in different locations on teeth...I agree with that. I have to do a periodontal examination from time to time where I mark off, on a sheet of paper full of teeth diagrams, which teeth are missing, where there are cavities and what needs to be done. Those 5 parts are the mesial, distal, occlusal and lingual parts of a tooth...Sometimes you don't need anesthesia, if the cavity is new and just on the surface.
What bugs me is that they don't mention how many root canals this patient had. If he had "52" cavities, at least ONE of them should be serious. A cavity that is left untreated turns into a root canal...now are you going to tell me that all of these "cavities" were new and fresh? I've seen the worst of the worst, and I call complete BS on this guy and he should be jailed for Medicaid fraud. - Onyxblaze, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9caulking you *****. Otherwise you are an *****. Either way I digg you down.
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Bababooey?
- dianebl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Don't be a jackass. How would it be more rampant with universal health care than with Medicaid?
I'm a Canadian, and we don't have a lot of doctor fraud. If doctors want to be paid more, then they renogotiate with the government, same as a union. - Chivalrysae, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5That's about 1 filling every 2 minutes. But we'll round up and say it took him three. That's still amazing. At this rate though, he should have recommended his patient get dentures.
- masterkenobi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I really don't know why, but it reminded me of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On3mrKW-Nk0 - Pilot85, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I dunno about the time, but if it really happened, someone out there has a severely ***** up mouth.
Hygiene, people. Hygiene. - thugbear2005, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6dont you mean "toothurty"
- espot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's more like 5% scumbags, and 95% honest. Most people are at least a little afraid to go to the dentist, so it's very easy for us to get a bad rap. It is absolutely possible to do 52 fillings in one mouth, and if they're small, it is possible to do it in 1-2 hours. They were probably what we call PRRs (preventative resin restorations), which are closer to sealants than to fillings, yet are still billed as one surface fillings.
- gyrfalcon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I've had 26 cavities filled in a single sitting but it took around 3.5 hours for the work to be completed. I highly suggest brushing your teeth when you're drinking 48 cans of soda a week. :-\
- jennamalia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4With that many fillings, you should be able to pull in some XM Satellite stations...
- merreborn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"you really think someone would be so obvious if they were trying to commit fraud?"
Yes, actually. Some wannabe fraudsters have made even stupider claims. - bkrishnan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Maybe he's using the 'big lie' technique.

I only count 4... - SuperCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Doctors are rewarded for patients that do not have serious ailments within a certain amount of time after a visit. Or an operation of some kind.
Then the government compensates the doctor for doing a good job. - SirNoobius, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4it's probably not the first time since he is being investigated
- DryMaltExtract, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3In Ontario dentistry isn't covered by healthcare. Either you have insurance with your workplace or you foot the bill yourself. It's considered to be cosmetic.
- nipterink, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3it says filling 52 teeth... not 52 fillings.
- turpenine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5in the uk to get paid more they do a more fantastic job.
- Jonsey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Dentist is NOT free in Canada.... gotta have insurance.
- consonance, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, he really meant 62 teeth, but you know how bad doctors' handwriting is.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5it's possible to have 2 fillings on a tooth... XD like on both sides....
but stilll 1 hour... somethigns up there... - BlakeEM, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5After not going to the dentist for a few years I had 21 fillings done in a single sitting, took about an hour if not less than that. A lot of that time is spent sitting around waiting for the novacaine to fully kick in. There were a lot of cavities, but they were all very small. i didn't need any other work and my mouth is otherwise very healthy. I just need to floss more, but I hate flossing.
An older dentist that has been around for a while, like this one has, can work very fast when filling cavities and it doesn't take much time at all. This isn't at all surprising to me that someone can have 52 cavities and get them all filled in under 2 hours. - ApolloXLII, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3dude dentists suck. they never tell you how much something is gonna hurt. all of the sudden you're just like "ow... oww... OW *****!" i literally just had my teeth professionally whitened and im actually in a lot of pain right now.
