- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+19Yes too bad they weren't watching their child then none of this ever would have happened.
- j0hnc0ry, on 04/09/2009, -2/+19The article was updated, the guy didn't know he hit the kid. Nothing to see here.
- b9gh47q, on 04/08/2009, -0/+15I think both parties are wrong in this situation.
- MarkBrent, on 04/08/2009, -3/+14This sucks for him! You're about to sell your car but get your child hit by a driver.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8What are the odds. Very sad tosay the least. How do you not know you hit the kid?
- lazybuoy, on 04/09/2009, -1/+9No. Story. Here.
- jcaino, on 04/09/2009, -0/+8It's not uncommon. Normally referred to as "hand money" - it's money left as a deposit so to speak - its basically an agreement that the seller will not consider other offers from that point on. If you back out of the deal, you lose your money.
Edit: I blame the father for walking into the house, ASSuming that his toddler was following him. - cjwl, on 04/09/2009, -0/+7Highly irresponsible parent for thinking that the 16 month old was following him inside.
- datcracka, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6No he didn't. No charges have been filed. Stupid over sensationalized media...
- theprof, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6wtf?
- nmanguy, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5Wait, he gave a guy money just to keep the car in the garage and THEN pick it up later?
- IvanB, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Still, doesn't make it right for the driver to have lied to the parent, by then driving away.
- LargeStack, on 04/09/2009, -1/+6This has nothing to do with craigs list but makes for great news story heading.
Ford Responsible For Infant Injuries
Authorities investigating internet link
Developing - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5The dad went inside the house for a moment "thinking the child was following him,"

I rest my case. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -4/+8Seriously, we need "common sense" legislation to regulate these machines of death. There should be mandatory background checks and 5 day "cooling off" periods before anyone is allowed to purchase an automobile.
- sirbeta, on 04/09/2009, -1/+5According to the update, the man was unaware that he had struck the child.
- waratah, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Those that have not had children should not be throwing stones at the parents. I don't know specifics but if you have ever been a parent you know that mistakes happen and you sometimes don't know where they are for short periods of time. The buyer handed back the kid to the parent.
I would suspect the buyer was much more aware of what happened, imagine what you would think if you just backed out and saw a kid there. Mistakes happen but to then take off with a BS story is really bad. - llamarama7, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3Seriously, this story couldn't be from anywhere but Phoenix
- ivanmarsh, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3And Craigslist needs to be implicated in this why? What if it was just an ad in a newspaper would you feel the need to make a big deal over the newspaper in question?
Evil! Evil internet. Craigslist killed my baby! - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2At first I was like WTF
But then I LOL'ed
"Magazine: McCain Calls Hispanics "You People" - clonemaster, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3Anybody see the article about McCain. WTF is up with that picture?
- BrettFromTibet, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3Yikes.
- Rikkochet, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3@IvanB: If the [update to the] article is any indicator, the police are satisfied that the driver didn't actually realize he'd hit the child. He test drove, got out, saw a kid screaming.
No charges. Happy ending? - superkeer, on 04/09/2009, -0/+116 months old... that's barely over a year. Kid probably was still getting used to walking around. Also small enough to get behind a tire. Without knowing the specifics of the injuries it's impossible to make a guess, but I think it would be feasible to injure a 16 month old child in a slow moving vehicle without really realizing it.
But seeing as the driver realized the child was hurt, got out, etc... if everyone else could put "two and two" together well, why couldn't he? Even if I hadn't heard or felt anything in the car that's the first thing that would've gone through my mind. - xero69, on 04/11/2009, -0/+1Hey parents, leashes are not just for pets anymore. Keep an eye on'em or leash'em up.
- harvardstud2009, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1Extremely relevant, interesting video interview with Craigslist founder Craig Newmark. He really dodges the question of tracking criminal activity:
http://bigthink.com/ideas/craig-newmark-on-trackin ... - ttam, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I don't think the driver lied. you can't see a kid that little in the mirrors.
- pak314, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1The parent should also be arrested for leaving the child lying around unattended next to the car.
- KiraDnote, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2I hope they don't catch him because he wasn't negligent and didn't mean to do it, and he'll be very sure it never happens again. If they catch him his life is ruined.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for the kid. HAHAHA the kid fell down..... how stupid can the parents be to fall for such a retarded excuse?
- LargeStack, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2Because of Craigs List
- spritom, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1In unrelated news, ASU has some very nice scenery!
- Hardataq, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2You meet the craziest people buying/selling on Craigslist, and they all seem only interested in ripping you off somehow.
- Emused, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1"Craigslist Powers, activate!!"
- failedpimp, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2So sad.
