- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -2/+189i saw a similar fiasco at a hockey game. the game was "shoot the puck for a truck" where a contestant would stand far away and aim at a very small opening in a board that was placed in front of the hockey goal.
they had this contest for years and years, and nobody ever won, so the management decided to do away with the "gaming insurance" premiums that pay off in the event somebody wins...
well, guess what. somebody got the puck in the hole, and the crowd went absolutely ballistic.
unfortunately, he was told, he could not have the truck, which upset the fans a bit.
the next time they rolled out that game, the crowd booed loudly, and so far as i know, they discontinued the game.
i'm still pissed about that. - pjs1840, on 11/11/2007, -1/+178Did they give him a reason why he couldn't have the truck?? I would have refused to leave the ice without the ***** keys or at least a very damn good explanation. *****!
/internet tough guy - 1laradream, on 11/11/2007, -3/+164That sucks! Toying with someone's dream home like this. Centex should be forced to pay for their bungle.
- h3llscaper, on 11/11/2007, -5/+111Buried as inaccurate, they gave her the home after all:
http://consumerist.com/consumer/happy-endings/upda ... - Error601, on 11/11/2007, -0/+104Funny...there was a similar one here except the puck actually jammed inside the hole. Every cried foul because the hole wasn't big enough for the puck. Eventually the promoters caved and gave them the car. Their claim was the the puck wasn't frozen like it was supposed to be.
- bradcrc, on 11/09/2007, -3/+93'Wrong, sir. Wrong. Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera..."Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera..."Memo bis punitor delicatum". It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal. You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing. You lose. Good day sir.'
- zeptobyte, on 11/11/2007, -2/+82Dugg for the honesty of that last line :P
- qualish, on 11/11/2007, -0/+69A second free house is going to be so much cheaper in the long run for this company. PR, legal fees, community relations. Oye!
- frog29, on 11/11/2007, -0/+67They gave her the home after all:
http://consumerist.com/consumer/happy-endings/upda ... - ADIDAS247, on 11/11/2007, -11/+73They should give her a toyoda instead
- satanatnmtedu, on 11/10/2007, -0/+61They should both get a house. The other person should win regardless of what happens with this woman. The company ***** up, and the bad publicity will hurt them more than the cost of the second home. And if they make this right, the good publicity will help make up for the blunder.
- whatthefu, on 11/11/2007, -3/+64Lol, does anyone even care about the other person who "won" the house?
- ridestp, on 11/11/2007, -1/+49They ended up giving her the house and then furnished the house for her, to pay for legal fees and the trouble she went through.
- Anub1s, on 11/11/2007, -0/+30I would be absolutely livid.
- Dokument, on 11/09/2007, -1/+31I dont think people realize that that actually happened. Im to lazy to find the link, but their was some waitress that thought she won a new toyota, but instead won a toy yoda
- Skepsis, on 11/10/2007, -7/+35The Broncos were icing the winner. She won the house, but they called timeout first. On her second attempt, her bid for the win hit of the left goal post.
- profOblivion, on 11/09/2007, -1/+27The first two times, hear you, I did not.
- zeptobyte, on 11/09/2007, -0/+26I think that means an employee also signed the document, verifying that she was the winner.
- latrosicarius, on 11/10/2007, -1/+25It's Centex's malfunction that they picked 2 winners. Centex should have to give away 2 houses then.
I think something's fishy when, AFTER the winner gets the house, Centex comes along and says, "oh wait, this other person (who happens to work for Centex) actually won the house, not you." - rootnik, on 11/11/2007, -2/+24There is only 1 way to settle this...
Ready?...
FIGHT! - purzzzell, on 11/10/2007, -0/+22they got their house too. Company did the right thing
Smart, they would have been ICED in court. This way, they gave her a house and didn't pay mountains of legal fees along the way - otherwise, she would've gotten it anyway.
http://consumerist.com/consumer/happy-endings/upda ... - TheSabre, on 11/11/2007, -2/+23Shenanigans!
- gudnbluts, on 11/09/2007, -0/+19As someone said up the thread, she won. She has been given another house. link:-
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/provider ... - benitojuarez, on 11/09/2007, -0/+17it was a hooters waitress and she took them to court and they ended up buying her a real toyota. And hes just getting dugg down because http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Congratulations_You_v ... adidas247 posted that comment 6 hours ago and this guy just ripped him off.
- paulbyrnes, on 11/10/2007, -1/+17It's not inaccurate. It's just been ***** updated. That's the beauty of Internet based news.
- zeptobyte, on 11/11/2007, -2/+17Then you learned something. Yay.
- scojerroc, on 11/10/2007, -0/+14A similar event happened at an NBA game. Some guy made the million dollar shot from full court. The insurance company refused to pay up on account of he played basketball in high school.
- tribble222, on 11/09/2007, -1/+13That scene shows how good Charlie really is because he still gives back the ELG even after Wonka is an ass to him.
- CrackaTX, on 11/11/2007, -0/+12Add a wall, make it a duplex. Bada-bing!
- mrswirl, on 11/09/2007, -1/+13Good god man. What a frickin' wet blanket you are. You must be fun at parties.
"Han shot first!" bleh - jaewon223, on 11/09/2007, -1/+12the problem is that they told her she won a house... . i'm sure if lottery said that you won $10 million and then a day later told you that you weren't the winner anymore you would whine about it.
- Veritate, on 11/10/2007, -0/+10If you read carefully, I think you'll find the winning document was just SIGNED by an employee of Centex, not that the employee won the house. The Centex employee signing the document gives it legitimacy.
- eerbin13, on 11/09/2007, -0/+10Why the ***** would anyone take the time to make up some ***** like this? I don't think it would have made the papers because the guy that writes that story and hands it in to his editor would get shut down by said editor because it wasn't "news worthy" or some *****. Or they have a deal with the truck company, or the hockey team, or any number of their sponsors. And if they don't have such a deal, they're probably a small time paper that next to no one reads. So you know what? I call ***** on you and your dumbass comment. Yeah, he could have made it up, but you know it's tough to prove some of these things and he obviously took the time to type out all that *****, and he didn't have 90 diggs when he was typing it. I'm sure he didn't know his comment would be dugg up you jealous prick.
- tribble222, on 11/09/2007, -0/+10And, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it the grandfather who suggested they drink the fizzy drinks, not Charlie?
- darny, on 11/09/2007, -1/+10"According to the statement, the finalists agreed in writing to a random drawing to resolve the issue, and Hankins won in the random drawing."
I hate poorly written articles like this. Who the hell is Hankins? The article never mentions the name before this sentence. Buried for crappiness. - wstrucke, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9um, this is resolved (see above)
- rootnik, on 11/09/2007, -2/+9What about the other person who 'won'?
- h3llscaper, on 11/10/2007, -2/+9Considering the site runs stories submitted by readers as a last resort to get the word out there, I'd say you can continue with the cactus lodged firmly in your anus about why it's not posted anywhere else.
- paulbyrnes, on 11/09/2007, -0/+7Ah, www.rong-chang.com says ESL is English as a Second Language. I'm livid to know yet another acronym.
- thenet411, on 11/09/2007, -1/+8http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/provider ...
There, dumbass. - foofightrs777, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7I just watched that movie the other day. Thanks for that. :)
- shaka776, on 11/09/2007, -2/+8I partially memorized this line when I was growing up... awesomely dug.
- starf, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7"Contest organizers said the finalists would have to agree to a random drawing of names.
Baca's lawyer refused."
"According to the statement, the finalists agreed in writing to a random drawing to resolve the issue, and Hankins won in the random drawing."
So did she, or didn't she agree to a random drawing?
I'd be a little surprised if they didn't have a clause in the contest rules that covers such an event. But it's quite possible. - blackinthmiddle, on 11/10/2007, -3/+9I've NEVER heard of contests like this where the employees can win. Everyone knows that if you run a contest, then say, "Hey, guess what, my sister won", you're going to get ***** for that.
Now the one thing they do have on their side is that if she indeed did not sign a contract, there might be *some* (I don't know how much) wiggle room. My guess is, in the end, they'll just pay her off and put a clause in the settlement saying she can't badmouth them in the media. - john2kx, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7you just plain suck, dude.
- wyrdness, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5They did give in an give her a house, plus pay legal fees:
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/14546128/deta ... - purzzzell, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5it was probably in the entry form, but the fact that they signed something ACKNOWLEDGING her as the winner should supercede something on the entry form.
- mrswirl, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Cripes. Here ya go you big baby: http://www.9news.com/news/local/article.aspx?story ...
- Jeffler, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5...but what if she Two'd?
- Antixian, on 11/09/2007, -1/+6you like to watch ***** naked?
