- TheDudeDean, on 09/13/2009, -6/+149The economy is so bad that people can't buy guns to kill themselves, they have to rent them.
- TheHungerArtist, on 07/04/2009, -3/+79Well they're not getting their deposits back.
- pwrstick, on 07/04/2009, -2/+59Some ranges have a rule that you must bring in a gun you own in order to rent (range here in CA is like that). The theory goes: if you already own a gun and are suicidal, you would kill yourself with your purchased gun rather than kill yourself with a rented gun.
- teamgwho, on 07/04/2009, -1/+56"and how much ammo will you be buying sir?"
"just one."
"one box?"
"no one bullet."
"ohhhhhhhhh..." - teamgwho, on 07/04/2009, -4/+51it's a sad story, and I suspect the the first one inspired the rest. simple fact is most suicide attempts are cries for help, that's why they aren't successful. If a person is really serious, they'll do it. They don't need a gun range, they'll find a bridge or connect a hose to a tailpipe, or stop their car on the train tracks.
This is not the gun range's fault.
they will be blamed though, since it's too easy and convenient to do by people who know jack ***** about mental health.
ironic thing about suicide: it's take more courage to actually do it then these folks ever had in the rest of their life. - diggerado, on 07/02/2009, -4/+42Crikey. How are gun ranges supposed to deal with the threat of someone renting a gun and shooting themselves or others?
- Bullislander05, on 07/04/2009, -6/+32We must have regulation! Suicides like these are the fault of us not making sure guns get into the hands of people like this! /s
- Choplifter, on 07/04/2009, -3/+24Didn't you hear? You have to check a box indicating whether or not you have mental health issues. Problem solved.
- InMSWeAntitrust, on 07/04/2009, -7/+26I hate to say this, but this is exactly how I'd do myself in.
- Barackalypse, on 07/04/2009, -6/+23If you want to die, at least go down in a blaze of glory trying to make a difference rather than horrifying innocent civilians with your lack of consideration.
- ru1dt, on 07/04/2009, -2/+18I vote against anyone's blaze of glory suicide attempts
One person's blaze of glory is another's high school shooting - inactive, on 07/04/2009, -2/+16"She rented a handgun, filled out paperwork, including answering questions about having no mental-health problems or other conditions that would preclude her from shooting safely, the manager said after the shooting."
Yes, because if she is renting a gun to kill herself, she will not lie on the form. Retards. - skidork, on 07/04/2009, -8/+21Were. The word your looking for is were.
I'm just messing around, I know it's you're. - alexidoid, on 07/04/2009, -1/+14and you believe that gun reform would have prevented this man from killing himself?
- Markers, on 07/04/2009, -2/+14I never looked at it that way... makes sense to me.
- analogkid01, on 07/04/2009, -2/+14If by "the US" you mean *us*, then I can agree with your statement. If by "the US" you mean the government...then forget it. Their job is to protect our rights, not coddle us from cradle to grave.
- Super6, on 07/04/2009, -2/+14I've been to Reig's, the range is really small since it's in an urban area, I want to say 4 or 5 lines, tops, and they're all in one room with a big window behind them for people in the shop to see the lanes. This guy would have been right next at least 1 or 2 people and the whole shop would have seen him all over the stall, what a selfish way to go out.
- Yetisquatch, on 07/04/2009, -3/+14honestly, thats pretty damn smart..... and thrifty.
- MrSteamTank, on 07/04/2009, -1/+11Every second form should change it up to "Are you not a fugitive from justice?" to make sure people are reading the form. You know...to spice it up.
- haydukeqc, on 07/04/2009, -4/+14Cheapskate
- Bender32, on 07/04/2009, -7/+16I own a hand gun and a few rifles, I also go to the range. I have yet to kill myself. But if I did want to kill myself and no guns were around I.d find another way. You can.t blame the gun, cigarette. car, drugs or sharks with lasers.
If you want to go, you will find a way. At least a .40 to the head would be quick.
God Bless America, I'm off to blow up ***** for the 4th. - dty2010, on 07/04/2009, -0/+9For the most part, they don't. Most people own guns for recreational purposes. Want and need are two different things.
- KarmaPoIice, on 07/04/2009, -2/+10This is one of the best and darkest comments I have seen in a long, long time. I wish I could digg you up twice good Sir.
- teamgwho, on 07/04/2009, -3/+11are you responding to my post? are you sure? because you clearly haven't read it.
to address your statement: yes a person could be required to provide proof of mental health or some such thing... and then the person would go and buy a hose at Pep Boys and connect it to their exhaust. they're still be dead and we'd have an endless layer of beauracracy not accomplishing anything except making people like you feel good.
unless you're suggested we should require a 3 day waiting period before a person can buy a hose at Pep Boys.
cause that would totally solve everything. - inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+8With guns?
- jemka, on 07/04/2009, -2/+9The same way gun store owners deal with it.
- shig, on 07/04/2009, -6/+12Courage? Courage is facing the next day regardless.
What this person did is the exact opposite of courageous; Cowardice, the easy out. - CaptainNoPants, on 07/04/2009, -1/+7Your show is going to be awful.
- TheSkinsFactory, on 07/04/2009, -1/+7I like the box when you purchase a firearm that states and I quote: "Are you a fugitive from justice?"
- cawpin, on 07/04/2009, -2/+8Yes, let's all do as California does.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+7If someone bought 5 gallons of gasoline at a gas station, proceeded to douse themselves with it and then flick the bic, would you suggest permits to buy gas? Waiting periods on lighters maybe?
- Brain1, on 07/04/2009, -1/+6 Massive Overdose of Heroin would be a Recreational way to say Good-Bye to all.
- mrjit, on 07/04/2009, -1/+6Totally man, and it's BMWs fault when some yuppie, coked up prick gets depressed and slams his M5 into a wall to end his life. They should have quizzed him on whether or not he would use the 4500lb death machine to end his life before selling it to him.
You're an idiot. - thaskizz, on 07/04/2009, -2/+7South OBT is crackhead hell
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -2/+7Hey, say what you will about America, Guns, or Gun Nuts.
But don't ***** with L4D, man. - Tophillious, on 07/04/2009, -2/+7*****. That's a hop and a skip from where I live :/
- StolenLamp, on 07/04/2009, -2/+7I believe he did buyt the bullet.
- matthekc, on 07/05/2009, -0/+4Hmm, I would rent a really fast car and not wear my seatbelt as I speed high as a kite into the grand canyon.
- analogkid01, on 07/04/2009, -1/+5The suicides in question had nothing to do with an "obsession" with guns. It was simply a cheap and quick way to check out. Let's not demonize the method and start screaming for "reform." Let's just let it be what it was, and move on.
- skidork, on 07/04/2009, -2/+6I wonder what kind of questions they have to filter out the crazies.
"Are you crazy?"
"Ooohh....That's a toughie...." - lostngone, on 07/04/2009, -1/+5Why own when you can rent.
- JimmyTheClam, on 07/04/2009, -2/+6Connecticut is a pretty ***** up state.
- BossKey, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4He bought the farm too.
- grantmoore3d, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4So if you've jumped, you've gone too far?
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3@MewtwoReturns
I think fear of the afterlife causes much more death and destruction than atheists ever will. - brucealmighty, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3Pretty unfair to the range employees and any other patrons there. Seriously, seeing someone blow their brains out right in front of you isn't an experience you can shake off in a day or two.
- Wisgary, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4I'm pretty sure I read a story about OBT and a girl getting her fingers cut with a knife during an attempted rape just a few days ago. Jeez.
- Pixelante, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3There are a lot of things civilians do not "need". Maybe those things should be taken away from you.
- kelmaster1, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3You used the correct 'they're' and 'their' in the same sentence! You deserve an award...
- aceat64, on 07/04/2009, -2/+5Well, you see, I bought the first gun (a handgun) for safety. Next I went to the gun range and shot it, since then I've felt progressively more badass. Now I own 2 handguns, 3 rifles, and a shotgun, and I pick fights with people just so I can have a chance to shoot them. All because guns cause violence and warped my mind.
