Since you are destroying the phone, the soul of the contract, stored on your SIM chip, emerges to make sure you understand that you do indeed have to continue making the monthly payments, possibly forever, as specified on page 19 of the service contract you signed.
That thing emerging has a law degree, controls a credit reporting agency and, once you open the door of the microwave, takes up residence in your walls and will never go away (unless you call the 1-800 number on page 34 of your service contract and can actually figure out how to either get a new phone or cancel your service).
