I guess WoW is popular in Italy too - ChronicColonic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+69When I first saw the title, I thought it was probably a typo...16 instead of 61.
"Hey Mom, can I borrow your walker? I have a hot date tonight." - HailfireX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+59"Most Italian men still live at home late into their 30s, enjoying their "mamma's" cooking, washing and ironing."
Thanks, but that doesn't explain why the 61-year-old is still at home? - ragmaster, on 10/10/2007, -2/+53Who reckons that this guy is a digger?
- insidesource, on 10/10/2007, -6/+45"Mama used to say: "Don't stay out-a late

- petoria, on 10/10/2007, -1/+35You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means

- 1jaxstate1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Sixty-one and still living with mom. Smart man.
- ursername180, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31Is it really that hard to refuse orders from a 80-90 year old woman?
- Brereton55, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31Inconceivable!
- saukrates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Hey Grandma, this is some ***** good pasta!
- knde, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21In both Sierra Leone and Nigeria, where I have relatives, it's very common to live in your parents home until you get married (especially if you are a female).
This is usually because the cost of living is so expensive. And economically it makes a ton of sense. Depending on how attached you are to your parents, you either have a lot of independence or not.
Almost everyone I know in both those countries, have parents who live in a compound. The compound usually consists of the main house, and one or two smaller flats called the "boys' quarters". They are usually meant for the help, but some parents will revamp them and either give or lease them out to their sons or daughters.
My mother swears Nigerian men are spoiled rotten. They have mothers who dote on them (doing their cooking, cleaning, washing etc), until they marry a woman who then continues the doting. - Puppetfunk, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28Hey Italians make some pretty good food, that's one of my favorites reasons for visiting my Grandma she always has a lot of ***** good pasta.
- cassarani, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Well, the truth is, most Italian men live at home with their mom until they get married... I guess this bloke just never did!
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19SKINNER!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22He’s a mobster with his own house and everything; he’s just staying with his mom to fool the cops.
- CaptainSponge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17That'll teach him!
- gboone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16well, when that 80-90 year old gives you food and you're too dumb to cook on your own because you've been living at home for 61 years... yes?
- aflaks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I Wonder what the reaction at the police station was, though from the looks of things they called a reporter ASAP
- loup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17What-a you thing you do?
Why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad,
It's-a nice-a place, - wzeallor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16"We had another fight over the inflatable bath pillow. I keep screeching and screeching at him but.."
"All right, very good." - gboone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14As my parents told me when I lived at home, "As long as you live in *my* house, you'll live under *my* rules!"
- ribbleninja, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Sad.. Unfortunately, here in the US of A , with skyrocketing house prices and healthcare out of control, most highschool graduates and even college graduates cannot afford to live comfortably in America. I know a lot of people who still live with mommy at the age of 30 - 40.. 60 is a little ridiculous but he was probably just taking care of her and the media blew it out of control as usual.
- NeoNevermore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Don't talk to Grandma that way, watch your ***** mouth.
- iamdeirdre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Yes, Internet geeks are world renowned for their manliness!

- anarchyx34, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Don't ***** with a Sicilian mother.I learned this years ago (from my mom). :)
- glasnostic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8My sister lives in Italy and she has a very hard time finding a man willing to man up and settle down before 40. From what I have seen, the market is flooded with cheap American poon-tang, which leads to most of the men staying single very late into life and never really growing up.
Ironically, while American women fanaticize about a romance with an Italian man, they are seldom prepared for what that means. Italians grow up very slowly. - hughesj919, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9snap...he is sooo grounded
- eazhar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6its-a mee, mario
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Too bad Sicily isn't Italy. Any Italian will tell you that. Go back to the island.
- LogicBomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4With most italian families that I know, it's actually kind of taboo to move out (maybe just for the women?) unless you're getting married or going away for a job/school.
- xsecretfiles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I heard this yesterday and the first thing that came to mind is ..god I gotta move out NOW at 21 or else is too late
- knde, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That isn't what it amounts to in the least. It's a cultural thing first and then a common-sense thing second. Families are so closely connected in certain cultures e.g. Italian, West African, Indian, Arab etc that the idea of staying with your family, until you start your own family is a given.
In my case, the ONLY reason at the age of 23, that I don’t live with my parents, is because my boyfriend is American. He moved across the Atlantic to be with me, the least I could do after having made him adapt to British culture was relieve him of having to adapt to my West African culture as well.
And even then, the flat we live in was bought and paid for by my father (which is another interesting difference in the notion of independence between cultures). The only times I haven’t lived at home, are when I was away at boarding school and away at college in the States. - erobinson90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"Police helped the squabbling duo make up..."
i.e. showed them "the price is right" re-runs - GGoldberry, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Live comfortably? What in the world is your standard of comfort? I moved out when I was 18, and never looked back. Don't blame your pacifier on healthcare and house prices...
- mikalveli, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I love ***** good pasta... wait
- joe7845, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's a cultural thing, common in Latin America too. That it's frowned upon in the US doesn't mean there's some supreme truth that says after a certain age you must live on your own.
- ProvidenceCrow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I was thinking that it was more likely the living incarnate of Principal Seymour Skinner
- JAVandiver, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I have been living on my own quite comfortably since I was 19, sans roomate, family, etc. The only time that it has been remotely uncomfortable was when I was unemployed. "Get a job, sir!"
- jacekpoplawski, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Our (Polish) prime minister lives with his mother. He is close to 61.
- Ramble, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3My God that's sad.
- jimmiss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sounds like the Italians have at least one thing figured out:-)
- xswag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The worst part is that he still breast feeds.
- Tyorant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"All she can do is dial, and scream."
- MrTulip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2'fanaticize'...nice typo. or are american women really so fanatic about relationships with italians?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I dug you up even though its "All she can do is dial and yell."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Like LogicBomB said, its taboo for unmarried men to move away from thier parents.
I live in NY and was 25 (and engaged) when I moved out last year, but my off-the-boat parents gave me *****. It is in the DNA I think. Family is the backbone of the culture and anything that disrupts it is bad. Pretty twisted.
This 61yo guy is pathetic. There's two issues. 1. He is unmarried. 2. He LIVES WITH HIS MOM.
Probably could make it on his own, but why bother. There is no social stigma as there would be here in America. Trust me - he was not taking care of her. It is the other way around.
My uncle is close to 70 (with a wife) but my grandmother (his mom) still cooks/cleans for them! (They live in the same house.) She is damn near 95!
This is why when people ask me what I am, I say American first. -
