- arktos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+68its not just satire, it was a tv show. "WKRP in Cincinnati" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077097/
really funny stuff. - vlurk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53LoL, I thought it was for real but this story is a prank guys: http://www.tv.com/wkrp-in-cincinnati/turkeys-away/episode/18540/summary.html
Apparently, it was scenario for an episode of WKRP in Cincinnati. Here is the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZByndN_ffyw&search=WKRP%20turkey I should have do bit of web search before I ask for the video. ;) - mom3girls, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Any comment from Johnny Fever?
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43That's satire. Look at the other links on that site.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Actually, there is:
"Thanks for that on-the-spot report, Les, and for those of you who just tuned in, the Pinedale Shopping Mall has just been bombed with live turkeys. Film at 11." - aconaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Wild Turkey makes you think you can fly. :)
- AZTriGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Good golly, Miss Molly, chill the ***** out!
- MakinBacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Yeah I loved that show. My favorite episode is when they were doing a hand-eye coordination test with a cop giving Venus and Fever alcohol on the air. While Venus was getting wasted and failing miserably, Johnny Fever was actually doing better and better after every drink! Now there's someone you want as a designated driver... even if he gets wasted, you're good to go...
- speedyrev, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27OK, this is screwed, digg me down again
- speedyrev, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Oops, digg down
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16x0r0m4n,
How fitting that your name can be rearranged to spell m0r0n x4. - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Thinking of WKRP always takes my mind to visions of Bailey.....the first geek girl I ever lusted after.

This really happened at station WQXI in Atlanta. Live turkeys were dropped from a copter onto the freeway. - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It was Newsweek:

What was your first clue?
OK, I guess I'm just old because I recognized the name "Less Nessman" immediately. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Answer: Because you are spamming the link like a douchebag.
- PeakAction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Heh! What a classic way to illustrate a generation gap! Post a classic WKRP segment and see who thinks it's a real story... Funny stuff!
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10>> OK, I guess I'm just old because I recognized the name "Less Nessman" immediately.
Ha...my dad just did the same thing. I thought it was legit, and he burst the bubble. It was much funnier when I thought it was for real.
Still a good laugh though. - Talus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I used to love that show...I recognized where this story came from with just a glimpse of the article title :D
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Holy ***** christ. I needed a good ROFL today. Thank you Digg.
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Agreed, baily was wonderful. I never understood why loni anderson got so much attention.
- ubisuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Hahahaha, I was about to answer here about this being an OLD WKRP joke.
You beat me to it dude, Good job.
ps: I miss that show ;-) - IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"And now it's time for more music and Les Nesmon."
- KnockItOff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That is my all time favorite WKRP! "As God is my witness...!"
- ubisuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wouldn't it be nice to watch this in syndication, instead of 5 times a day: Seinfeld/Everybody loves Raymond every day of the year
- Aliasing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7oh the huge manatee
- mlmurray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7No. No comment from Dr. Fever. He's on the run from the "Phone Cops."
- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"OK, I guess I'm just old because I recognized the name "Less Nessman" immediately."
And for that you get the Copper Cobb award. :) - alec1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8According to the tv.com link, the episode was based on a true story. So whether it happened in Cincinnati or Atlanta, as long as it once actually happened, I can laugh my ass off without feeling duped.
- securegeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Great find tmiller51.
From wikipedia
One of the longest traditions in Yellville, AR is the annual Turkey Trot festival. Beginning in 1945 with the first turkey dropped from the roof of the Marion County Courthouse, the festival continues today. It is held every second weekend of October with the best-known attraction being live turkeys that are dropped from airplanes over the town square. October 2005 marked the 60th anniversary of this festival. The 1970s television show, WKRP in Cincinnati, parodied the turkey drop on one of their best-known episodes. Yellville and the Turkey Trot Festival were also included in the American supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer in 1989 with photographs of the festival and commentary on animal cruelty. Due to the bad press, the turkey drop ceased for a few years. It has since resumed. - the_penguin_boy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The turkeys hit the pavement like hefty bags filled with vegetable soup.
- mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Even Ad Sense knew this was a fake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Les: It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From... W.... ... K... ... R... ... P!!
Les: No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this! - qurly63, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I can still remember seeing this episode for the first time (not as a re-run). I swear I laughed for hours. You really have to see it to believe it, the sheer terror in Les Nessman's eyes as he reports the story from the ground is unbelievable. One of the funniest things I have EVER seen on TV.
- fordprefect113, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9LMAO Man, you don't get it do you, its from an episode of that tv show you linked to
- lroche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Now I feel old. Anyone who has never seen an episode should definitely check it out.
And oh yeah...booger! - LeberMac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ahhhh. WKRP in Cincinnati... good times...
- tmiller51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This WKRP episode was partially based on reality--Yellville, Arkansas used to have an annual helicopter turkey drop.
- MoofTheStoof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes, we still do this every year. The turkey drops did stop for awhile because of outcry, but now some anonymous pilot tapes up the numbers on his small airplane and a few turkeys get dropped. It's not an "official" part of the festival, anymore, though. The turkeys just glide on down to the ground, unhurt. The kids at the festival then have a great time chasing them down, and whoever catches it, keeps it. Some become pets, some become dinner. I remember seeing that WKRP episode when I was a kid and not understanding what the hell they were talking about. Even at 4 years old, I knew perfectly well that turkeys could glide safely to the ground.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is the same blog that gave us the "Teen Loses Second and First Life in Same Day!" story...
- ochants76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Turkeys CAN fly...They are capable of achieving speeds of 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour) in flight but do not fly much higher than tree level nor very far (only up to about one-quarter mile or 400 meters)....still kinda funny though
- lordTalus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Wild Turkeys can fly.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hey, xorom4n! Welcome to bansville!

She was hot, FWIW she was discovered by being on the cover of life magazine, it was a shot from behind and she was turning around looking at the camera.
I'm old enough to remember the turkey episode, One of the funniest 30 min's I've ever seen. - CharlieInCO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5*Sigh* Those were the days.
