- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/22/2008, -2/+286This was one of those stories that I just *had* to click on and read because I couldn't for the life of me venture even the wildest guess as to what might have happened based on the sub headline. ... A terrible sequence of events, to be sure, but well worth reading.
- shadeOfGrey, on 04/22/2008, -12/+213What a stupid language that not dotting an i changes "run out of arguments" to "they are ***** you".
- ByrcheWroot, on 04/22/2008, -3/+168I'm not crazy about emails. Much less texting. I've had to clear things up many a time because you can't convey a tone in your voice inside these.
- sockpuppets, on 04/22/2008, -3/+163I'm looking for the missing dot that makes your comment funny.
- iidestined, on 04/22/2008, -7/+148Alternatively, the press could ask for banning knives from the homes of demonstrably stupid people.
dugg - CannedMango, on 04/22/2008, -1/+131I don't know about the dot... I'm pretty sure it was the knives... those and the over-reacting idiots on the handle end of the knives
- ileftfark, on 04/22/2008, -1/+108Ahh, the old Turkish-Closed-"I"-Trick. Who hasn't used this to get one of their enemies killed?
Also, dugg for the pic. - flossdaily, on 04/22/2008, -18/+110Nothing to see here. Just evolution working its magic.
- Krovvy, on 04/22/2008, -3/+82I can't believe this wasn't from The Onion.

- andrew522, on 04/22/2008, -0/+65don't worry, the word for "bowling" isn't the same as "***** ***** I will kill you" in english.
- SystemJinx, on 04/22/2008, -5/+60Remind me to dot all my "i"s.
- StatiK69, on 04/22/2008, -2/+57Cellphones don't kill people... people kill people.
- shadeOfGrey, on 04/22/2008, -0/+48"There's no.. emoticon for what I'm feeling!" /comicbook guy
- slightlygifted, on 04/22/2008, -3/+50so he killed himself cause he was "confused". i smell emo.
- Akaji, on 04/22/2008, -1/+48I had assumed it was the Onion at first...
- yuanzhoulu, on 04/22/2008, -1/+44it's even more delicate in chinese. "mai" said with a low tone means "buy" while "mai" said with a tone that starts high and falls low means "sell". "shui jiao" with both syllables falling from high to low means "to sleep" whereas if the first one rises and the second one stays low means "boiled dumplings".
- virtualball, on 04/22/2008, -1/+41But will it blend?

- GoKings, on 04/22/2008, -0/+31They're really going to blame the faulty i and call this a sad story? Really? The bitch and her family is ***** crazy, and all of them should rot in jail for the rest of their lives for what they did to him.
- Bzornes, on 04/22/2008, -34/+64decriminalize marijuana!!!
- Falldog, on 04/22/2008, -0/+30It's not my fault people can't pick up on my raw emotion.
- stavrogin2, on 04/22/2008, -0/+29You kids get off my god damn lawn!
- SeventhSon, on 04/22/2008, -0/+29With strong emotions, I like to avoid the face-to-face. Less knife wielding fathers.
- m0tbaillie, on 04/22/2008, -0/+29sıkısınca means "when you get bored" while sikisince means "while you're *****". Now this situation is retarded for two reasons. First off, he wrote "sikisinca" which is grammatically incorrect and the fact that he ended it with -ca not -ce should have told her that he meant not to use the dotless i's because of the grammatical vowel harmony in Turkish. You would never see a word with the -ca suffix and dotted i's unless it was an error and supposed to have dotless i's. Chances are, she was already pissed and reading so fast she just automatically misinterpreted the meaning and, well, bad ***** happened.
That and retarded. - Ajajadude, on 04/22/2008, -1/+29Yeah, I abhor any sort of communication that's not face-to-face because of issues with lack of tone or emotion in text and constantly having phone conversations cut in and out if I'm in a bad area. It's just too damned frustrating at times.
- afruff23, on 04/22/2008, -0/+26STOP TASING BROS!
- Mononuclear, on 04/22/2008, -1/+27yeah like comments on digg.....
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -4/+29Same with me. Weird, crazy turkish nutters.
- Zihuatanejo, on 04/22/2008, -0/+25I don't think it's the cell phone's fault that the guy's in-laws were knife-wielding maniacs.
- elipabst, on 04/22/2008, -1/+25EXACTLY. I love how there is discussion about coming up with Turkish-specific keypads and even banning knives, but nothing about fixing our society so that we aren't stabbing each other to death because you called my daughter a bad word.
- neonenergy, on 04/22/2008, -1/+24lol, but the worst swear in chinese is like, "go lie down in the street"
- Aidenf77, on 04/22/2008, -1/+24It's been my experience that important matters are better served face-to-face. Even phone calls can be misinterpreted. Texting and emailing lacks nuances and verbal/facial cues, which makes it easier to take things out of context (especially when people want to take things the wrong way). Unfortunately, retaliation is just a click away and spouting off is easier than confronting your problems directly. I've learned that the hard way.
- digjam, on 04/22/2008, -1/+24In my wildest dreams I couldnt have figured out what the hell the headline meant...until I read the actual article.
- geobay, on 04/22/2008, -0/+22You change the topic every time they are ***** you
- muslax27, on 04/22/2008, -1/+22wtf

- ApolloXLII, on 04/22/2008, -3/+22you got dugg up for the word "wow"?!
oh wait, you added a frowny face. FTW!!! - jun2san, on 04/22/2008, -1/+19Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse.." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse.."
- byrdgang, on 04/22/2008, -2/+20How is it possible that a single dot completely changes the meaning of a sentence? This is not even remotely possible in English (and probably most other languages). Since the Turks know that their language has this peculiarity, wouldn't they first think "Oh, maybe he meant..." instead of jumping to conclusions?
If someone sends me a text message and it comes across as weird, I try to see if maybe there's a misunderstanding created by lack of face to face contact. - bitcloud, on 04/22/2008, -1/+18and also what... erm.. not having a language where "run out of arguments" is a dot away from "are ***** them"...
and erm.. not being a ***** homocidal maniac to begin with..
but yea... emoticons could help too :) -
