Since there is such a massive community of people who know that Scientology is a scam, wouldn't it make sense for us to take practical action by pressing the government to revoke their tax-exempt status?
Imagine that instead of just thousands of diggs on articles against them, each time one of these comes up as many of us as possible made a quick phone call to whatever department at the IRS (perhaps Commissioner Linda Stiff's office?) to POLITELY but firmly say: "I'm a citizen and I've seen how the so-called Church of Scientology preys on it's members and attacks it's critics. I don't know how the mistake of approving them as tax-exempt ever occurred, but it's time to correct this error. Of course I support the fundamental principle that EVERYONE has the right to believe ANY religion (no matter how absurd) and I'm NOT at all saying that Scientology should be banned. What I'm saying is that EVERY serious religion or philosophy about the nature of life (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Atheism you name it) makes their scriptures or fundamental texts available as part of the public domain. It is a complete travesty that Scientology REFUSES to release their "scriptures" and, quite the contrary, actually SUES and harasses people who review/rebut/excerpt them. I'm a adamant supporter of religious freedom, but there MUST be a requirement for a religion to completely expose it's scriptures into the public domain to be considered a TAX EXEMPT religion. If they want to remain "closed" then that's their choice, but cost must be that we revoke their tax-exempt status. No tax-exemption without transparency." and it contains an executable,
and I then change that executable to be setuid root,
and then I run that executable after changing it to be setuid root (or running 'sudo malicious-executable')
what harm could it possibly cause me?

Christians don't pay to study their beliefs, Muslims don't pay to study their beliefs. Why do Scientologists feel the need to and, on a more important note, why are they forced to?
Equally, people outside the Church should be able to see this stuff so that they can make informed decisions on the Church when ALL THE INFORMATION is presented to them - NOT JUST THE LIES OF THE RTC. We should all be presented with everything to do with the "holy book" of this organisation, much in the same way we are with the Quran or the Bible, so that no one is tricked into joining the religion with outright lies and mistruths. No religion which forces you to pay to learn it's moral codes, ways of worship and idealogies is a true religion - it's a scam.
Moreover, people should not have to pay for knowledge of any form. Humans should not have to pay to learn the things they want to. That is the true power of the internet, to make information freely available for those who are willing to learn. To prevent humans being hald back by the physical constraints of time and money when it comes to enriching their minds.
