phew! - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Here is another urban exploration site.

I just wish there were more abandoned places closer to where I live. - ilkeryoldas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7good choice for #1: Pripyat, Ukraine
- Etchii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I broke down in Centralia! A buddy and I went there one day to check it out (Went to Bloomsburg University, about 40 min away)
We got two flat tires driving by the road that broke open and buckled. Believe it or not but a few people still live in that town...i think 3 or 4 houses are still occupied. I had to go to one of the houses to use a phone to call for a tow...a rotary phone... The house was filled with red, red carpet, and red couches. Everything was clean...like museum clean... I really felt creeped out, I think the guy was a serial killer or something, that kind of creepy.
But yes, the ground is really still warm, you can still see the smoke from the smoldering coal rise out of the ground, and sinkholes are everywhere.
Cool place, but not that great if you break down. - eggraid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Actually, San Zhi, Taiwan is just not inhabited yet. I mean, this city is cleraly from the future!
- vuke69, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Dude, did you just invite him to your bathroom?

- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5San Zhi, which is a stone's throw away from Dan Shui which in turn is a stone's throw away from Taipei in northern Taiwan was built because they thought it could become a very hot tourist spot in part due to the scenic views and skyrocketing development at the time. Now many rumors go back and forth about it, but the most plausable cause is that its not due to "mysterious accidents" or "ghosts" but likely because funding dried up half-way when the developer's other projects fell throgh. There are many more beautiful buildings built near the area that are half completed and deteriorating, its just these are the most unique looking. The mysterious accidents rumor is a bit less plausable, while old ladies and neighbors might make up fun stories for the tourists, the reality is few in Taiwan are that superstitious. Just look at the Taroko Gorge tunnels which took many lives in one of the most difficult engineering feats of its kind in the world, in development from the Japanese occupation to this very day, and yet Taiwanese people visit it in droves.
If development continues at its current pace however, and at the rate that DanShui and Taipei is expanding, its possible to say these structures will be gone in 10-20 years, but as they are made out of steel and fiberglass its possible they could be renovated by an enterprising developer. - lukejduncan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Detroit is great for urban ruins. Urban Explorering is a little known hobby of many local students. A friend of mine has a good site dedicated to his explorations and photography, and there are many good links from that site to others.

Most impressive are first few images images. They basically stop by the side of the road for a potty break, wander into the "forest" only to discover that it actually grows over the abandoned village. Spooky. And just in case -- the three-eyed cat is a fake :) - dinobot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They forgot Silent Hill
- gene6482, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I live about 5 minutes from Centralia, it's amazing how empty that town is, considering one of my best friends parents went to Centralia High School. Back in high school, everyone used to party there because they have no cops there.

- tomcpp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Why don't we look at the LONG list of atrocities commited by the palestinians.
All muslims are murderous racists - just read the quran ...
8:55 all non-muslims are lower than even animals
9:111 all muslims must fight AND KILL infidels for allah, even if they die in the process
And they do this dilligently, this is ONLY FROM TODAY, killings, by muslims, "for allah"
8/8/07 ( Pattani, Thailand ) - Muslim gunmen storm a medical clinic and murder two workers.
8/8/07 ( Yala, Thailand ) - A 66-year-old man is brutally shot to death by Islamists as he is walking in his orchard.
8/7/07 ( Grozny, Chechnya ) - Two Russians are shot to death in a Mujahideen ambush.
8/7/07 ( Banda, Pakistan ) - A security patrol member is blown apart by Islamists while fetching water from a stream.
8/7/07 ( Samarra, Iraq ) - Three women and two children are killed in a Jihad mortar attack.
8/7/07 ( Muqdadiya, Iraq ) - Muslim gunmen open fire on children, killing one.
That's TODAY, right. Muslims kill and kill and kill. And then kill some more. Why do we allow these fascists the light of day ? - eekfuh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2great article... pictures are cool, too bad they weren't larger.

There's not too much to see though, there's more trash dumps in the area than the infamous coal fires.

- jauderho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Bodie (the first pictures) is located in the eastern part of California near Mono Lake. It is a fantastic place to check out if you like ghost towns but do bring adequate clothing as the temperature varies significantly during the course of the day.
Check out my Bodie pictures.

No towns in the area or anything like that. I used to hunt in the area and remember that everywhere around would have snow on the ground but not this valley.
