- ghee, on 12/28/2007, -8/+184Old, this was on Digg in 1934.
- Antibland, on 12/28/2007, -4/+130"An 18 inch baby Manta was born shortly after the mother fish was dragged ashore."
You know you're bad-ass when you give birth to creatures after you're already dead. - cawfee, on 12/28/2007, -2/+103Why is it that every time people find something huge, unique or badass, they shoot it?
- Hobbes24, on 12/28/2007, -2/+81you also know your a bad ass if it takes 22 shots from a high powered rifle to kill you
- Ikon, on 12/28/2007, -3/+591876 called, they want thier news back.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -6/+50There's so much ***** ***** I haven't seen yet. The world is amazing.
- Jacksc, on 12/28/2007, -1/+41much bigger pic of the fish itself
http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/819/2500 ... - juliankauai, on 12/28/2007, -1/+32manta's are big, beautiful and gentle with people. if you dive on maui or on other islands in the caribbean then you may be lucky to see one and luckier still to get close to one. i guess calling it a devil fish occurred because it looks like it has horns (which actually direct plankton to their mouth). many marine animals get caught in fishing line and left over damaged nets that get tossed overboard by asian fisherman. i often carry and knife when swimming to untangle line that gets caught around turtles.
read this story to get real info on the 'devil fish' just because they are big does not mean they are evil.

also check out wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manta_ray
ps as usual these rare and wonderful animals are presently being killed by people who have been led to believe the horns can be dried and powered and made into medicine. - John370, on 12/28/2007, -1/+24So at 5,000 lbs it's a "Devil Fish", but at 18 inches it's a "Manta Ray"?
- cambob76, on 12/28/2007, -1/+23Caught doing what? Something unbecoming of a ray?
- farblong, on 12/28/2007, -3/+25"The sail-like fish has been mounted and placed on exhibition by Captain Kahn."

- Light0, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7I can't believe there is stuff like that in the ocean that comes close enough to humans so that it can be caught. I wonder what we haven't seen yet. 10k pound shrimp??? possible :P
