Not my site, but I love to just browse around it and see what crazy scientific tools and other stuff they have for sale. - rarson, on 01/18/2008, -0/+17I never would have imagined you could buy uranium on Amazon. I like how next to availability it says "Processing takes an additional 4 to 5 days..." After all, it IS uranium.
1205 counts per minute (I'm assuming that's above background). A little conversion: 100 CPM > background = 450 μμCi/100 cm². So 1205/100 * 450 = 5422.5 μμCi/100 cm², or 0.0000054225 mCi/100 cm². Assuming it's a gamma point source, 1 mCi @ 3 ft yields 1 mrem/hr dose rate, so on-contact radiation (estimated as 1 inch) would be 0.0000054225 mrem/hr * (36"/1") = about 0.00019521 mrem/hr from holding this thing in your hand. Not a full body dose, mind you, so the total effective dose is even lower than that (as radiation received to the extremities is less of a concern as radiation received to the rest of the body).
The average person gets about 300 mrem a year from cosmic rays (flight attendents get much more than this because alpha radiation is more common high up in the atmosphere), which is about .03425 mrem/hr, significantly more than this (strapping it to your chest would only add 1.71 mrem per year to what you're already getting). This thing is harmless! Probably only useful for calibrating a GM tube. - MattL920, on 01/18/2008, -1/+15One word. Badonkadonk.
- TheWorm, on 01/18/2008, -1/+15"Does anyone know if there's a cure for sudden tentacles? The cat's huge and well, doesn't really look much like a cat anymore. She still answers to Muffin though. However, if she rubs against my bare leg one more time her new name will be calamari."
WTF? - asdfuiop, on 01/18/2008, -5/+17It may be only January but *****-it, comment of the year

Best amazon review ever!! - Dotcommer, on 01/18/2008, -0/+5Never mind that... WTF IS A BADONKADONK LANDCRUISER/TANK?!
- scrappyvintage, on 01/18/2008, -0/+5I bought a mini gun on Amazon. It's pretty neat.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bic-Crystal-ballpoint-medi ... - orxor, on 01/18/2008, -2/+7Although I agree with you that dog fighting is bad, I don't think there's anything wrong with selling books on the topic. Those same books for example could be used for research or to educate people on the evils or dog fighting. Also we get into the whole issues of individual liberties, I think people should be able to publish and sell a book on any topic as long as no one or no dog in this case gets hurt. Just because something can be used for evil doesn't mean that it will be. For example a book on chemistry might teach someone how to make explosives, that doesn't mean that the book shouldn't be sold.
- Neiby, on 01/18/2008, -0/+5That site has some awesome stuff! If you want to read something crazy, read all the warnings they have on their supermagnets. They are amazingly powerful and extremely dangerous.

who wants to buy a Roswell Soil Sample - MonumentMan, on 01/18/2008, -0/+5i got an awesome ninja sword on amazon about a year ago.
it was like 15 bucks and its totally real and looks badass its got a black blade and sheath and a wrapped cord handle. i use it, well, i bought it, for "home defense" which basically means i thought it was kickass and picked it up before deciding i needed a reason to own it.
and god forbid anybody did come break into my place. ah man that would be crazy.
EYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - rarson, on 01/18/2008, -0/+4Poop. Figures I would make a mistake. When moving the distance from the point source from 3 ft to 1", the proportion is squared, so it should be 0.0000054225 mrem/hr * (36"/1")² = 0.00702756 mrem/hr, which gives us a yearly dose of about 61.7 mrem... still nothing to worry about.
- A14049752, on 01/18/2008, -0/+4Yeah, get that and the W VooDoo kit and you'll probably have the feds delivering your order.

- ProfessorFoo, on 01/18/2008, -1/+4Ha, I've already bought those stinkbombs before :)
Per dollar it's one of the best pranks I can think of.
And it's too bad the George Bush voodoo doll can only affect him if he believes in it. - DrMonkeyLove, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3Now, what if I were to eat the uranium?
- haobaba1, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3OH, GLASS VILE STINK BOMBS ROCK. I got suspended for a day in junior high for throwing one of those down in my glass. Stunk half the school out of the building.
- orxor, on 01/18/2008, -2/+5Actually let me add just one more thing. Suppose that a book that denounces dog fighting uses the same exact images as one that promotes it, with no evidence that either author committed those crimes wouldn't you be encroaching on the promoters freedom of speech if you banned his book and not the other since the only thing that has changed in the book is the words?
- shiftclick, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3You make brain hurt.
- rarson, on 01/18/2008, -1/+3Books on dog fighting aren't illegal, either.

- CSharpSauce, on 01/18/2008, -0/+2I noticed those too, they were awesome
- PresidentGas, on 01/18/2008, -4/+6"There once was a man named Klaproth
Who cooked up some pitchblende-y broth
This bright German fellow
Mixed cake that was yellow
And found something new in the froth
He'd already discovered Titanium
Because of the size of his cranium
So not wanting to strain us
He thought of Uranus
And called his new product "Uranium"
Now Amazon's got it in stock
I'll admit that one came as a shock
An ore in a tin
Radioactive within
With a four-million year ticking clock
I just noticed while writing this rhyme
That this product ain't covered by Prime
Though small, it's got weight
So you'll pay lots for freight
And spending that much is a crime
So although I'd have wanted much more
Than this tiny container of ore
I'll have to make do
With one U 92
For my Geiger device checking chore
But if science is your main ambition
Since Amazon gives you permission
Please cover your a$$
If you want to tint glass
And you can't tell your fusion from fission "
