- aNte, on 11/05/2008, -6/+89How much did George W Bush cost?
- AlphaBiggs, on 11/05/2008, -3/+73$200 billion? thats nothing, the U.S bailout is over twice that although I don't think that was an accident...
- theadvinci, on 11/04/2008, -5/+55I guess me backing into a trashcan won't make into the list.
- d0zy, on 11/05/2008, -3/+48#11 - The condom breaking
- Trekhawk, on 11/05/2008, -3/+35...staffed by a skeleton crew of unqualified electricians who ran an unauthorized test during the overnight shift because it was postponed due to a freak electrical outage that necessitated the reactor stay on line instead of being shut down so actual nuclear engineers on the daytime shift could conduct said test.
But ignore those facts America. Nuclear power will kill your entire family and make your men sterile. - zadatak, on 11/05/2008, -3/+29The Titanic actually generated about $1.4 billion if you count the revenue made by the movie.
- lohphat, on 11/05/2008, -2/+243 TRILLION dollars.
- Zidane, on 11/05/2008, -6/+27#1 George Bush $3 Trillion+
Fixed the list for ya ;) - omnithought, on 11/05/2008, -5/+25I think Diebold vote machine "malfunctions" in 2000 and 2004 were the two costliest "accidents".
- Spyder2k, on 11/05/2008, -5/+24George Bush?
- chas46, on 11/05/2008, -5/+21 Wasn't Chernobyl an accident waiting to happen? A poorly designed nuclear plant.
- Trekhawk, on 11/05/2008, -0/+14The design was obsolete, even by 1985 standards. This was the Soviet Union. The design was flawed. It lacked redundant safety measures and fail-safes you would have found on most any other reactor at the time. Additionally, the Soviets cut corners during construction. The reactor that exploded had only one containment wall. Most feature at least two. Think of it as a single-hull ship versus a double-hull ship. And the single-hull has no navigation equipment and the entire crew is drunk.
- montanask8, on 11/05/2008, -0/+12It was not an accident!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- alphgeek, on 11/05/2008, -0/+9That's nookyoolar trekhawk, noo-kyoo-lar
- forthex, on 11/05/2008, -1/+10PLUS THE 700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT.
- theadvinci, on 11/05/2008, -1/+9Yes, it's not an accident... it's a disaster!
- 13373h4X0r, on 11/05/2008, -1/+9Bush is absolutely one of the 10 most expensive accidents in the history of the world...
Iraq war: $TRILLIONS; 500K dead; millions fled; US reputation squandered...
Economic crisis: $700 billion; golden parachutes for the guilty...
...and there are countless less-tangible costs to American society and to the world... - RSS14, on 11/05/2008, -1/+9Holy *****! That puts into perspective the magnitude of the bailout . . . those bastards.
- Chrysalii, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7incalculable.
- Zippo, on 11/05/2008, -1/+8debatable.
- Chrysalii, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7***** the bailout is more costly than 3 Chernobyl's.
- WoollyMittens, on 11/05/2008, -1/+7Funny how the Exxon Valdez accident didn't actually cost Exxon a cent. :)
- nowhereelse, on 11/05/2008, -0/+6Bad argument. All of the items in that list were caused by negligence.
- omnithought, on 11/05/2008, -0/+6Hence the quote marks around those words.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5Just like Europeans... We would love to have the oil but if you ask us for any kind of help we will say no and then bitch about your mistakes later
- manstein01, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5"n November 13, 2002, the Prestige oil tanker was carrying 77,000 tons of heavy fuel oil when one of its twelve tanks burst during a storm off Galicia, Spain. Fearing that the ship would sink, the captain called for help from Spanish rescue workers, expecting them to take the ship into harbour. However, pressure from local authorities forced the captain to steer the ship away from the coast. The captain tried to get help from the French and Portuguese authorities, but they too ordered the ship away from their shores. The storm eventually took its toll on the ship resulting in the tanker splitting in half and releasing 20 million gallons oil into the sea."
Good to know Europeans officials are such stand up take charge kind of people. Wow. - Trekhawk, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5@ Chrysalii
Well, I hate to use them as an example, but France recycles their waste and is able to store it all in one relatively small room. And 80% of their energy comes from nukes. The very fact that the waste is radioactive tells us there is still energy in it that can harnessed. - dsmx, on 11/05/2008, -2/+7the waste can be sent for reprocessing where I believe around 90% of the material can be reused the other 10% can only be buried deep underground however that is still less of an environmental impact than most plants.
- bloggerjul, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5final cost is still pending....
so far... the financial meltdown is still unraveling.
and countless countries hate the US for his program to spread "democracy and freedom" - theadvinci, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4They didn't malfunction... They were built to work that way. I read a story about it which basically claimed that the machines were built to make it possible to manipulate the results.
- mikbunn, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4@trekhawk's original comment:
That sentence is awesome. - projjalc, on 11/05/2008, -1/+5OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!
Plus 200 billion. - HippyJM, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4Was going to say 'What about the mars lander that burried itself into Mars?' but that only cost $125 million.
- jhails, on 11/05/2008, -1/+5George Bush administration and Presidency. Nothing else comes remotely close.
- chikuten, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3"these kinds of shallow traffic-building ploys (various top ten lists) are just poorly-researched junk in many cases."
that's a given. so how is that you're going to critically assess something as mundane as a "top ten" list? - inactive, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3Shhhh, the accountants fiddled the figures...
- Myztry, on 11/05/2008, -1/+4Seattle Computer Products selling QDOS to Microsoft without seeing if IBM was interested...
- doublefelix, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3Think 100 Challengers all blowing up at once.
- Omgitzurdad, on 11/05/2008, -3/+6lmao
- cesclaveria, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2I wonder if the other option would have been better?
If I'm not mistaken, the deal MS did with IBM helped the industry to produce IBM compatible "clones" and thanks to them the PC is what it is now, but if someone less savvy had made a deal giving IBM exclusivity to DOS then now we probably would have just 2 options: Buy an IBM or buy a Mac, or, countless of other options with little compatibility. - secrity, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2... or more
- PsychoDesigns, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3Obviously not, I was talking in a more global sense with a bit of sarcasm.
Thank you Genius. - Chrysalii, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3so what will we do with all that highly radioactive waste that these things produce?
the plant itself is safe, but once that stuff leaves it.... - iPoul, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3#11 - George W. Bush
- FastZ, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Liar. I accidentally the coke before you even though about it.
- mcrumley, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3I think the point was that the cost would have been greater if they had replaced the shuttle.
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -7/+9Abortions are free... And tasty.
- doublefelix, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2You must be a conservative.
