- treelovinhippie, on 10/10/2007, -5/+47Sad thing is that many of the "dumber people" in society are breeding a lot more rapidly than the "smarter people" which tends to lead to things like religion becoming popular, education standards being relaxed, complete ***** getting voted into the political system, less and less value placed on science (especially scientists and engineers).
(Note I put "dumb people" and "smart people" in quotes because it is a big generalization, but you get the basic idea of what I mean... i.e "dumb people" tend to be in that particular social class that don't value education, logic and reason. Children being brought up in that environment also tend to have these same beliefs drilled into them)
Here in Australia the welfare system is setup very, very nicely to favor the "dumb people". A good example is that the government gives couples $6000 for every child they have. So now there are quite a lot of mothers having children just for the money (sad, but true). - coit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34They just don't know when to stop, do they?
- DropTheOxygen, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20A vagina is not a buss stop.
Stop breeding. - jkrebs1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Yeah, super. Let's encourage everyone to have 100 grand children.
Buried. - Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Stillborn here or there. One or two dies of cholera. You leave a couple at Wal•Mart. When there are so many, it's hard to keep track.
- inblue, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16indeed. having 11 kids could be labeled either irresponsible or ignorant. or both. i'm sure he's a good guy, but do we really need 100 + of his offspring running around?
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Must be an expensive Christmas for him.
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11There are studies that confirm religious people tend to be less intelligent, generally.
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8That is a lot of names and birthdays to remember, for any age.
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I hope one of his kids gets her ***** tubes tied.
- PaulWest, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8No wonder the world's population is growing out of control. I've been saying for years that no family should be allowed to have more than 3 kids (unless they have twins or triplets, etc which take them over the limit).
There's no need for it. It puts more strain on the economy, makes the parent's lives a nightmare trying to bring all their kids up properly, and the kids themselves don't get the attention they deserve and are always battling with their many brothers and sisters for attention. - vexxefx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Help him celebrate? Yeah, i'm sure he's an avid digg user and will *rejoice* at the sight of this story.
- lukasmach, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Well, I wouldn't say that religious people are entirely dumb. They are just dumb in one particular aspect. That doesn't mean they can't be smart in other fields than in the "not being a propaganda puppet" one.
- orlyfactor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Hell no.
- willizm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thats not a Family Tree. Thats a Franchise.

"You need to come on down to the CELLAR. I got a whole freezer FULL of Popsicles" - tucktan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He had 11 children, and they produced about 100 children among them.
how to you produce "about 100 children"? - barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Profit?
- moisie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Having children should be like for like. 1 in, 1 out.
- KicktheDonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Idiocracy was awesome... Maybe you're just crazy? ;)
- treelovinhippie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Like I said mate, it's a generalization. Of course there are many intelligent people who are also religious. Personally I don't see the logic in being both intelligent and religious, but hey.
However it is very common that many, many children brought up in an environment where education isn't valued, aren't likely to do that well at school (and thus aren't likely to go onto further education). It's just like the whole indoctrination of children in the religious environment. Children born into a Christian family will instantly become "Christian children". They will be told before they have the ability to decide for themselves that God exists, the world is only 6000 years old etc etc.
And the type of "smarts" that I'm talking about are those that are able to better society. For example, without the engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs of the world there is absolutely no way we would have the lives we do today, the extended life expectancies, the technology that is such an integral part of our present and future.
You bring a child up with the strong belief that evolution is a lie and life was created by an invisible being... why would they want to become a scientist? - da_bradler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4how was it I KNEW this story wasn't about a chinese man.
- treelovinhippie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Fail. I never said the guy in the story was a "dumb person". You never know, he might just like the idea of having a big family, and makes sure all of his kids/grandkids are educated well, encouraged to further their studies, given the choice to choose a religion or none etc etc.
But statistically speaking the lower socio-economic class has a much larger birth rate than the higher classes. And heavily religious people also have a much larger birth rate than others. - inblue, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5who knows if any of these 100 grandchildren are on welfare? if that's the case, it sure does effect us (as taxpayers)! ...not assuming, of course.
also read above to Paul Wests' comment.
Also... not to mention the strain on the environment/global warming. - Haydio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The article is like 2 sentences.
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4you missed:
"He had 11 children, and they produced about 100 children among them. Most were on hand for Dixon's barbecue party Wednesday.
The mayor of Riviera Beach said Dixon will soon be receiving a key to the city."
Look at that have lots of kids/grandkids get a key to the city! - chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3if his children's children have kids it's still a grandchild.
The guy is 100 so they must be on a fourth or fifth generation by now. - zeptobyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No one's bothered to count them all.
- mmhnef, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3come on guys, you all sound like retards. He probably started having kids around 80 or so years ago. Back then, people needed bigger families to run farms, my grandpa was a child of 9 for just that reason. If each of his kids popped out 9 more, which is maybe a little less likley, or poped out 3 each and those three had about 3 kids of their own, you hit that 100 mark.
This is only amazing because he is still alive, im sure there are tons of people responsible for 100 births that were born in his time, they are just probably already dead. - WarBeast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Shut up Dude, I'm 'Baitin'"
- orlyfactor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Overpopulation.
- Talphin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"I hate these small news channels from middle-of-nowhere-ville"
Oh really? Do you prefer those giant mega news corps that say things like "Well, it looks like its about time to bomb Iran!!! We don't need a good reason, all that matters is that you believe what we say!!!" - HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Of course there are many intelligent people who are also religious."
Does not compute. Error. Fail. - PaulWest, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yes in China each couple is only allowed 1 child.
- Bega, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Mommy, why do I have 99 cousins?"
"Because sweety, your grandfather was a player" - Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Evolution has changed direction, I'm sure of it.
- SuperMoses, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow, you're such a tool.
- Livert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He's a walking spawning pool.
- mulberryx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Idiocracy in action
- inblue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2none of the "about" 100 grandchildren ever learned how to count accuratly.
- barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21. Have lots of kids/ grandkids.
2. Get a key to the city.
3. Profit.
/Never mind... - 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I hope one of his kids pops out another one for his 101st birthday wednesday to keep it all in balance.
- faithfreedom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Smart people don't have kids" is a oxymoron. Without youngsters replace the old ones, a society is leading to extinction.
- shotgunl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's nothing, my cousin's grandfather on his father's side had 28 children that lived to adulthood, and there were over 120 grandchildren by the time of his death. It's an amazingly large family.
- SuperCujo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You sir, are a racist bastard. FOAD
- LogicBomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why the hell is he getting the key to the city? How about you give it to someone who helped stop a violent crime, saved a baby from a burning building or raised money for aids on their own time? Why the HELL is having children who had children considered special?
- BrandNewJesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2First, he is 100 years old! 80+ years ago it was normal to have that many kids (1907)...and it was still normal for his kids to have a lot of kids(1947)...his grandchildren are probably around 60! But I am willing to bet that number includes great grandchildren.
- KlayBorg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its times like this when I think that the One Child policy is viable in other countries...
