- Braingoo, on 01/02/2008, -9/+302Yahtzee makes Wednesday worth living.
- Trozz, on 01/02/2008, -11/+284"if you don't know how Mario Galaxy ends and can't even hazard a guess please stick your head in a beehive"
Dugg. - Daolohua, on 01/02/2008, -10/+240While I completely agree that Nintendo's main franchises have been filled with stale (almost non-existent) story-telling, that never really was their "thing". They always just focused on gameplay; and frankly, they're still damn good at it.
- wisewaif, on 01/02/2008, -6/+200For God's sake, will escapist please offer a feed of some sort for this? iTunes, anything?
- rib13, on 01/02/2008, -4/+153Cleaning the queen bee will never feel the same again
- karmahasyou, on 01/02/2008, -11/+154Yahtzee delivers as always. Lots of laugh out loud moments, my personal fav though is the animation during the last part of the credits. That's just so wrong.
- bjs3171, on 01/02/2008, -2/+134i have absolutely no problem with the gravity, and very little problem with the camera. the only thing about the camera that bugs me is when they don't let you use the Dpad to move the camera. there are so many places where i'm just like "WHY CAN'T I MOVE THE CAMERA". also, it really bugs me when games think that because there's an object behind you, the camera can't move there. it's a virtual world, that pillar doesn't really exist, and there's no actual camera man. just move the ***** camera aleady.
- Twisted871, on 01/02/2008, -16/+144Dugg for the wanking wrist comment
- Aharoni, on 01/02/2008, -0/+121Seems like they have a feed on Digg :)
- jaej, on 01/02/2008, -3/+116dugg for koreans
- Homest4r, on 01/02/2008, -5/+66"Mario's going to jerk-a off"
lol - christopher79, on 01/02/2008, -3/+62The game is good...but Mario can not swim...at all.
damn water levels... - exomni, on 01/02/2008, -9/+64I disagree. Playing SMG with the Wiimote by any means the very best experience I could imagine, but the Gamecube controller would be even worse. The game is so ***** good it doesn't really matter what you play it with, though.
- shdurham, on 01/02/2008, -1/+51That would be fracking fantastic, but then nobody would go to their website.
- luet, on 01/02/2008, -0/+46I was so freaked out when I played that level. It was at like 2am... I jump on the queen bee, and go get the star piece between her legs. "Ooh that feels good" O_O
- BedPost, on 01/02/2008, -6/+49Doesn't change the fact that often his criticisms are damn true.
- diggduggDOOM, on 01/02/2008, -1/+38I believe he's English and living in Australia.
- BenKenobi88, on 01/02/2008, -5/+42While you could say Portal or Bioshock are more original, Mario is not "done to death." There was SM64, Super Mario Sunshine, and now Super Mario Galaxy...those are the only 3D Mario platformers in existence, and each of them are quite different. There are more Ratchet and Clanks than Mario platformers. The rest of the games like Mario Kart and Party are separate.
- zeejay, on 01/02/2008, -6/+42If I really want a story, I'll watch a movie. It's perfectly valid for some games to be "just games."
- felchdonkey, on 01/02/2008, -14/+49It's FUNNY. It's not meant to be a review.
- brbeaird, on 01/02/2008, -3/+37Dugg for being pretty much right on. The game is a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
- MillionsLivio, on 01/02/2008, -8/+40Dugg for Fly me to the Moon.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/02/2008, -1/+32That's probably why they snatched Yahtzee up from Youtube after seeing his Fable review. I bet their website traffic sextupled.
- GeneralFailure0, on 01/02/2008, -1/+31I don't think Mario was ever meant to be much of a 'character' in the sense we usually think of. He's more of a slightly amusing and functional vehicle for the gameplay to revolve around. Nintendo knows nobody really cares about Mario's backstory or the goings-on of the Mushroom Kingdom, but that's not really the important part. It's just an excuse for you to run around and jump on stuff, and there's nothing wrong with that.
- mervis, on 01/02/2008, -0/+30That doesn't even make sense.
- exomni, on 01/02/2008, -7/+36He's not really fair with the storyline. Sure, it's the same "Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach go rescue Princess Peach" storyline, but it has to be! If that's not the storyline, it simply isn't mario.
However, Mario Galaxy does some fantastic stuff with the storyline. Rosalina, the Toad Explorers, the Star Festival, all the little "storybook" sequences. The storyline was ***** great, and beautifully delivered. - crossmr, on 01/02/2008, -8/+361. Post old, tired internet joke
2. ???
3. Buried. - OttawaMarcin, on 01/02/2008, -4/+30"So deliciously tragic"
- honeymustardn, on 01/02/2008, -1/+26Get in the hive...
- Araxen, on 01/02/2008, -0/+24I thought the Princess died finally...
- adventchild08, on 01/02/2008, -3/+27Bioshock is still a fps, a short easy one at that....it had an original setting, but thats it.
It was great, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't the most ground breaking game in terms of originality. - shawnbttu, on 01/02/2008, -1/+24is it just me or was he talking a lot slower then he usually does?
- poiuytrewq44, on 01/02/2008, -0/+21Agreed. I was also weirded out by how that worked. I was minding my own business searching for something causing the itching, when I (unfortunately) realized that I had to mount that giant pom-pom and rub myself all over her. Goddammit, it sounds weirder when I explain it.
- Elliuotatar, on 01/02/2008, -3/+24Sucked a a rather strong word. It wasn't one of his best. But then, he's never at his best when he likes a game. And he wasn't talking fast enough.
- Jareth86, on 01/02/2008, -1/+22Is it just me, or did he go much slower in this one?
- inactive, on 01/02/2008, -0/+21I want to see one on Kayne & Lynch
=D - JoeDiggsIt, on 01/02/2008, -4/+25Ever since I discovered him last week, Wednesday has taken supreme ultimate rule over my non-Friday weekdays.
- luet, on 01/02/2008, -5/+25Well I'm glad he enjoyed it (which is a rarity for Yahtzee), but I don't know what he was talking about with all the gravity and camera parts, especially when he said it would've done better with gamecube controller.
- onClipEvent, on 01/02/2008, -3/+20Am i the only one that can't seem to get the video play in Firefox?
Here's a youtube version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdqHx6yfvIo - dsmx, on 01/02/2008, -3/+20He wasn't harsh at all he said he enjoyed the game. It amazes me how people always gloss over the good things he says about games and moan at all the negative things he says.
- BenKenobi88, on 01/02/2008, -0/+17Not sure how a Gamecube controller would have made this better. Picking up star bits would have been a bitch. Maybe the Wii remote didn't get used a ton, but anytime it did get used, it was something the GC couldn't do.
- finnishgeek, on 01/02/2008, -0/+16Am I the only one that enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine?
- bobartig, on 01/02/2008, -0/+16There are a lot of good reasons not to let the camera intersect objects like you have described. Not limiting the camera networks allows for another class of camera problems in terms of orientation and placement. It also means you have to start worrying what the inside of objects look like, and how the camera's view clips through them. For the most part, the insides of models tend not to have normals, since its unnecessary rendering. But what if its a thin object, and the camera is on the other side of the pillar?
Not only is it a stylistic consideration, but it also allows for 'wall hacking', where you see through a wall or around a corner using camera placement.
There were points where I did think that the cameras in SMG were annoying, but just blanket suggesting that they let the camera intersect with all objects is a huge change in a lot of ways, and a bit naive. - palmer, on 01/02/2008, -0/+16Wednesday's what?
- Totalchaos02, on 01/02/2008, -3/+18Anymore? Has ADD afflicted everyone but me? Some of us can sit through an entertaining game that doesn't have ultra realistic graphics, totally surround sound precision audio, and the most engaging story ever. Some of us still like games that are actually fun...
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/02/2008, -1/+16He was kind of talking slower this time.
- dagnabbit, on 01/02/2008, -9/+24Damn him for using Smash Mouth at the closing. Now it will be stuck in my head. So catchy...
- Carsonauto, on 01/02/2008, -3/+17Do you REALLY need an RSS feed?
Every.Wednesday. - leerayIG88, on 01/02/2008, -1/+14yeah...they are pretty handy with pistols and starcraft...
