- AmazingAndrex, on 02/21/2008, -1/+16Brawl- March
Mario Kart - April/June
WiiFit + WiiWare - May
Seems pretty spaced to me, anything more than a month will be considered by whiners to be a "drought".
As for the second half of the year, IGN seems to think Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing are on the way and will be announced at E3. Take from that what you will, I *hope* they're right... - Protoss, on 02/21/2008, -0/+15March 9th.
- rogueifer, on 02/21/2008, -0/+12oh to become a virtual hoola hoop champion.
- mabba18, on 02/21/2008, -0/+10Point to the channel and hold A+B, the way you drag anything else on the Wii.
- AmazingAndrex, on 02/21/2008, -1/+10Final Fantasy, LostWind, World of Goo, TellTale's episodic WiiWare games, and Dr. Mario (Wi-Fi woot!) are all going to rock my fricking socks.
- Protoss, on 02/21/2008, -3/+10No, but some weeks the quality of the games released is really, really horrible.
- sgtpppr, on 02/21/2008, -0/+7Suggesting that any of the nextgen consoles 'delay games' is just insane. This round of consoles has already had the worst problem with big name games. Sure, Nintendo has put out some incredible wii games already, but 95% of the catalog is shovelware. For the love of god, put out some new killer apps.
- Protoss, on 02/21/2008, -1/+7Mario Kart will most likely see at least 1 delay. Anyone remember when Super Mario Galaxy were going to be released a month apart? Everyone was thinking about what games would be released in Q1 '08...Now we're here in Q1 and its the same situation.
- ricksite, on 02/21/2008, -2/+8Where am I supposed to store all of these games? 512MB flash memory seems pretty paltry when you start downloading a bunch of games. I know you can move games to an SD card but you can't play them from there. Is there any technical reason they couldn't enable playing a game straight from the card?
- AmazingAndrex, on 02/21/2008, -2/+8At least one new Virtual Console game is released each Monday, and from what I can remember it never dipped below two per Monday.
- ricksite, on 02/21/2008, -2/+7GE hasn't updated my microwave oven either. So what. While I would like Nintendo to do something, I don't feel they are obligated. I bought the product as is and it performs as expected. I don't know why you feel people were "duped" into buying the Wii. I think most people knew what to expect when they bought it.
- orangefly, on 02/21/2008, -1/+6stop that damn it....
- Protoss, on 02/21/2008, -0/+5I'm sure thats one thing they are going to roll out when they release the game. Hell, they may be working on the update, and are going to release an update allowing playing via the SD card and any FAT32 USB connected drive when SSBB is released in North America.
- pinsomniac, on 02/21/2008, -5/+10Hmm... Brawl, Mario Kart, WiiFit, and WiiWare all before the start of summer. Perhaps it would've been better for Nintendo to space these releases out -- one game might cannibalize the sales of another, and IIRC, their release schedule for the second half of the year isn't nearly as interesting.
- willfe, on 02/21/2008, -0/+5Heh. *Thank you* for pointing this out. I've been scratching my head about this ever since I first saw people clamoring for an external hard drive add-on for the Wii. You can cram a whole bunch of data into the Wii's 512MB flash memory before it fills up, and with 1 and 2GB cards under ten bucks, it's not a huge problem.
The only legitimate complaint I can think of is that the Wii won't play games straight off an SD card -- it has to be loaded into internal flash first before it'll run (unless that's changed). It's also not the world's fastest flash reader/writer either -- copying items to/from SD cards on this thing seems to take quite a bit longer than it should. Still, these are minor issues. If you really have that many games that you're running out of internal memory, a bit of juggling to get your desired game cranked up is something you should be quite accustomed to by now :) - hansonc, on 02/21/2008, -1/+5you mean other than insanely inexpensive SD cards right?
- sdellboy, on 02/21/2008, -1/+5So...I...can...get fit...playing...computer games? This isn't how its meant to be...
*booooooooom* brain explodes - ELCad, on 02/21/2008, -1/+5On Jan 28, 2008 only only game was released. 1080 for N64.
- danielrh9, on 02/21/2008, -5/+8Cool stuff, but seriously. The fact that Nintendo is following through on WiiWare without doing some sort of storage unit solution seriously makes you wonder what they are smoking.
- TheGreger, on 02/21/2008, -3/+6You're so right because if you don't like it nobody else possibly can.
- vondrak, on 02/21/2008, -2/+5it's not meant to be a traditional fat-burning muscle building workout.
http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/miyamoto-wi ... - erwanl, on 02/21/2008, -0/+2Actually, you don't even have to store your games on an SD card. You can delete them when you get bored, and download them again for free later if you want to. Do people really want to have 20+ games accessible at all time?
- Misanthrope, on 02/21/2008, -0/+2Wow, some crazy times you kids are having.
- DrSarcasm, on 02/21/2008, -0/+2"The company [Telltale] stated simply, 'And before you ask -- no, it's not Sam & Max.'"
What?!? Why not? Are you guys afraid of making money? - mustbepatient, on 02/21/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I'm starting to get concerned about whether I will have a Wii when Brawl comes out!
- Coffeedemon, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1Do the math kid. Average weights are up in the US.
- sgtpppr, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1Thank you! That's what I wanted to know.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1P.S. Wii Ware is the only way DLC can interface with the Wii, and in that respect is why Harmonix didn't announce Rock Band until recently. I could care less about the games, I just want DLC running.
Oh, and Activision better give me that free Aerosmith song, or I'm done. I have no problems with Guitar Hero as a game beyond the fact that if Rock Band can license all the same songs it negates its purpose. - freetyme, on 02/21/2008, -2/+3Yeah Wii ware! I hope you can move all your Diamond and Pearl pokemon over to Wii so I can restart and play Pokemon again without losing them.

- Misanthrope, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1Wii Fit? Killer? Are you confused?
- Misanthrope, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1I love the Wii and all, but you can't be serious. Suggesting that a 2GB SD card is a suitable replacement for a hard drive...that's just crazy. So WiiWare games are supposed to fit on that 512MB of storage along with all the other crap you've downloaded?? What if someone makes a kick ass game that takes a whole gig?? That's certainly not unthinkable...at all.
I mean...seriously. - Zap2, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1You don't get to complain when Nintendo is shipping Super Smash Brother Brawl
Thats game is a god
A GOD! Damn it! - ufee, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1Which is a pretty damn good game.
- chubbybubba, on 02/21/2008, -1/+2Cool... I can eat all the oreo cookie cakes I want till May! After that I'll have to change my tag to just Bubba.
- noseeme, on 02/21/2008, -2/+3I can't wait to get my fat ass out of my chair to go buy Wii fit! Wewt!
(this is one of the few times where I am not being sarcastic) - allisonaxe, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1I enjoy having 20+ games accessible at all time on my xbox 360. (ok, that may be a slight exageration.) but yeah, there's no reason for something that only exists as data, without a physical storage media, to *not* be always accessible. nintendo needs to make an "SD card channel" or something that scans the sd card and loads/saves the games from there.
- allisonaxe, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1what the hell are you talking about? I was responding to someone elses post. i highly doubt that there will be any downloads that are that big in size. yes, I understand about compression and procedural textures, but the point stands. anything that is so large as to be a 'full game' will probably be released on a disc. wiiware will probably be best used for small, quick, casual things, similar to Xbox Live Arcade.
- Misanthrope, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1A very smallish splash of pretty at that.
- inactive, on 02/21/2008, -1/+2How about a F*CKING WII!!?? Jesus, they can't even ship their damn Wii's out, how the hell are they going to keep up with demand for this.
Ya, I'm bitter, it's February and I STILL don't have a friggin' Wii in my hands...Bastards. - zoso11, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0Woot can't wait for wiiware how much is it going to cost btw?
- xandersmom, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0I have had it preordered for weeks :) I can't wait. An at-home yoga class for those of us who can't afford the real thing
Awesome! - willfe, on 02/22/2008, -1/+1allisonaxe: Heh, indeed. Do you *really* think we're going to see a torrent (pardon the pun :)) of huge games made available on WiiWare? A lot of textures can be generated procedurally, speech and other audio compresses very well with Vorbis, music can be done via MIDI on the sound chip, and all you've got left after that is the game program; we're not going to see a Final Fantasy VII port on this service :)
Misanthrope: Yeah, we can be serious. We are :) SD cards are fine. - jabelar, on 02/21/2008, -0/+0I wouldn't worry about Nintendo's business sense ... and I'm glad they don't purposefully delay releases. Just release them when they're ready, and assume that good games will sell.
- allisonaxe, on 02/21/2008, -1/+1if its a whole gig, do you really want to have to download that over the slow nintendo wifi network? I'd rather buy a game that size on a disc, thanks.
- nicktx, on 02/21/2008, -10/+10But where are the real games?
- willfe, on 02/22/2008, -1/+1allisonaxe: It'd be useful, but not necessary. I've gotten hold of a handful of virtual console games (via giveaways and the like) and there's about 10 "extra" channels on mine that don't ship on a Wii out of the box. I've still got lots of space left -- given the size of the downloads already present on the service, there's tons of room for more. I've got 1,580 blocks free; only the "Internet Channel" is what I would consider "huge," at 223 blocks. The rest are all below 100. Most average about 30-45. Let's call it fifty. I can load another 30 games at that average onto the machine before it runs out of memory. That ain't bad.
I'm with erwanl on this one -- once you've bought the game, it can be transferred again from the site any time. It's not "instantaneous," but it's "fast enough."
It's a total non-issue. -
