- KingGoonie, on 12/11/2007, -2/+40How about for Christmas Nintendo uses it themselves and gives us all some free games
- Braingoo, on 12/11/2007, -3/+20Give the best gift you can this christmas Mario 3.
- mrboratsagdiev, on 12/11/2007, -0/+12Nintendo Japan: "We'll give you opportunities to get amazingly collectable gifts, free! Just for buying Nintendo products!"
Nintendo Europe: "Trade stars for Wii Points! Hey, at least it's something!"
Nintendo US: "Ok, well, here...you can give gifts to one another." - inactive, on 12/11/2007, -1/+12Please gift me online gameplay with goldeneye, + 100 new maps, thanks
- kravex, on 12/11/2007, -3/+14Nice feature, I'm sure we'll get it in Europe around June...
/sarcasm - MatttK, on 12/11/2007, -0/+10I wish. I remember when they hyped up this Christmas surprise thing last year. I thought for sure they'd give us early adopters a free game... nope.. Mairo 1 for regular price. Joy.
- vondrak, on 12/11/2007, -1/+10You don't need to update your photo channel. That is a separate wiiware download. So you can keep the mp3 support.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+9Don't forget Japan also has the Demo channel...
- bobbothegrayson, on 12/11/2007, -0/+9We can only wish.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -2/+10They actually added a feature to a VC title that wasnt there originally?
Huh, I can't tell if those things flying in the air are pigs or the four horsemen... - directive0, on 12/11/2007, -0/+7Why do you need the "pretty" version? 8-bit sprites aren't good enough for you or something? You know in my day we only had the NES version and that was the way we liked it. No mode-7 scaling or blast processing for us, no sir. You kids today don't know how good you got it.
- thatcrazycommie, on 12/11/2007, -0/+7I'm still bitter about Microsoft owning Rare, I really wish I could get Goldeneye/Perfect Dark/Jet Force Gemini.
- rc19189, on 12/11/2007, -3/+10and it cripples your mp3 support in the photo viewer! Nice one big N...
- jalexhall1989, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Ghosts'n Goblins, now you can break your wii controllers too! Seriously though, that game is ridiculously hard...
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+7Waaawooooo wippity-weeee!!!!!1!1
- Kevinok, on 12/11/2007, -2/+7Who actually thought that we needed Pokemon Snap on the VC?
- j3rm1981, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Despite all the sarcasm, we got it here in 'the land of the perpetual dark age', aka, the UK, too.
- directive0, on 12/11/2007, -1/+5I know you guys are digging him down for spamming and I won't fault you for that its a horrible abuse of the comment system. But, and this hurts me to say, mapwii actually helped me find people near me to kick my ass in MOH:H2 so dig down if you must but don't completely discredit the site.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Will future updates include regifting and degifting?
- ChromaVita, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3This is a really smart idea right before christmas. It makes gift giving easy and makes nintendo more money.
- Kolpaka, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3We got it in Canada too. Anyone with a Wii got the same message from Nintendo today.
- themastersb, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Sarcasm because it will be later?
- Pxtl, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Good call. Now just make the ones I've already got transferable.
- themastersb, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3I should just wait for Super Mario Allstars for the SNES
- skywake, on 12/11/2007, -1/+4I went to the Wii Shop just then and it said "do an update" so I am assuming that this is it. I live in Australia so I would assume that this is a globally launched update of sorts.
- flickr, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3I think a lot of people are feeling this sort of bitterness... especially those of us that camped over-night in -20 degree Celsius winter cold to get our systems. Four buddies and I all camped out for Wiis last winter, everyone but me has sold theirs in favor of PS3s... and I'm pretty close. Nintendo has made a lot of customers pretty happy, but also made a lot of customers feel like suckers. Mario Galaxy, Zelda and Metroid have been fun but I'd really like Nintendo to do something to help me feel like keeping my Wii is the right decision.
- ARR0624, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3I agree I think if you own a copy of the game, you should be able to register it with nintendo and then if its on VC then DL it to your console.
- Sethbacca, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2The worst part of the whole thing is that I got Super Mario All Stars for *FREE* as a cartridge with a subscription to Nintendo Power at the time. I got a freakin cartridge free with all of the mario titles. I find it hard to believe that they wont let you dl a 2 meg rom to your system for free. Especially if you've bought all the 8 bit versions.
- pdiddle, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2I woke up to a neon blue Wii today and I'm in Ireland. Global update it seems :)
- Philbert, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2"So ... it costs less than the other current-generation consoles and includes a pack-in game, but you're *still* bitching"?"
Yes, I am. It does cost less than the other systems, but you also get less than the other systems, so the point is moot. My PS3 came with a pack-in game too and a really sweet one at that. I don't think a game that's more than 20 years old should cost anything more than a dollar at the most. Not to mention it's almost pure profit for them. - jaytea90, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3Yeah why is it sarcastic? I think June is an accurate date.
- KingGoonie, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Honestly its the N64 games for 10 that seem the worst... for some reason I have no problem downloading NES and SNES ones for 5 and 8 respectively. Maybe because I still have a working N64... its not hooked up or anything, but still just having one its like 10 bucks for mario 64?!?!!? Yes, one of the greatest games of all time but... If I didn't have the N64 anymore it would probably be different, or maybe its just that the SNES and NES games are older and I have gone as much as 15 years since playing some of those games. Like double dribble.. the nostalgia alone was worth the 5 points. And pokemon snap I'm getting today and that I think is worth the 10 points because I never owned it... so I guess I should ammend my thing. The N64 games at 10 is the only thing that annoys me because I still have the system AND most of the games available are games I have already too.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Take it from someone who LOVED Goldeneye and played it to death at his Highschool's games club in the N64/PS1 era, and recently purchased a bunch of old N64 games that he always wanted to get including Goldeneye..... Goldeneye has NOT aged well... at ALL. You will be disappointed if you play it now unless you have not played a single FPS released in the PS2 era and beyond, this includes any for the PC as well as consoles. You will probably spend the first several minutes of the game just trying to re-learn how the hell you ever managed to control it.
- Edrick, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3I still don't see how it's a rip-off.
1) If you already own the game then why are you buying it on the VC? Is it for the convenience? Then I guess you're paying for that. Still think the prices are too high? THEN DON'T BUY VC GAMES.
2) Don't own the game at all? Then the prices are pretty reasonable. Sure, they could stand to be lower but if you seriously don't own Ocarina of Time in any form isn't it worth a measly $10? Think people, think. - Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2I agree with the ripoff prices part, but not the free download part, Nintendo really has no obligation or need to.
But yeah, $5 for a NES game with absolutely no enhancements whatsoever (Comon, even some of the crappiest, outdated, never got popular emulators for the PC support options like sound filtering, online play, and graphic filters) is very steep. - Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I don't feel we are entitled to any free game, but the VC is without a doubt a ripoff at those prices, the older the system is the bigger a ripoff the game is, especially since the emulator... sorry... "Virtual Console" lacks some of the most basic features like the option to add smoothing filters.
- allisonaxe, on 12/11/2007, -2/+3I did. i never got the opportunity to play it originally, and the newly added feature (which allows you to save your pictures to the message board) is pretty neat.
- xXGeechXx, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1isn't piracy illegal?
- OpCzar, on 12/11/2007, -2/+3That's a pretty cool idea. After the official presents have been opened and all the guests have gone home, you get another surprise just by turning on your console!
- daneatdirt, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Great, now all I need is friends to give me gifts.
- cryonix, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2i saw the blue light today and thought it was this update... nope. Damn MailToad thanking me for saving Luigi in Mario galaxy. got the update 2 hours later though.
- Sethbacca, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I want Killer Instinct 3 !!!!!!!1
- KingGoonie, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2I remember that too, and I thought the exact same thing. In fact I remember seeing the first digg articles saying "holiday gift from Nintendo SMB!" and thought well thats nice, I wouldn't use 5 wii points on that... but they SHOULD give it to us for free... and holiday gift it says, so maybe..."
Then read article and found out nope, just them making it available is a gift. Don't see why its a gift, because then in turn wouldnt every other huge title be a "gift" and that happens quite often... - josh1413, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Where's Mario Tennis? I loved that game..........
- kravex, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Me and a friend have a competition to see who can get each other the worst gift at Xmas, with China Warrior on the VC I will be this years winner!!
- coveycom, on 12/11/2007, -5/+5Make sure you've updated your profile at http://www.mapwii.com to prevent anyone sending you a duplicate VC game, all VC games released are now listed how fantastic!!....what do you mean you've not registered yet, over 22,300 people have and they've listed there Friend Codes for online gaming...check it out http://www.mapwii.com
- aquadoctorbob, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0You're absolutely right. We know we're getting ripped off even as we buy VC games, and it's common knowledge that the Wii library is seriously lacking in good solid titles. So why throw in the self-fulfilling prophecy at the end?
- willfe, on 12/11/2007, -1/+1So ... it costs less than the other current-generation consoles and includes a pack-in game, but you're *still* bitching"? I guess you won't be happy unless they hand you one free, with unlimited (free) downloads of all the VC games, and at least one free new Wii game per month, right?
Nobody made people stand in the cold waiting in line for the machine, and nobody's holding a gun to your head forcing you to download the "overpriced" VC games. Go pirate the damned things if it's that big a problem for you. - onlychild, on 12/12/2007, -0/+0"If your friend already has the game you're trying to give, you'll get a simple message and be bumped back into the catalog to continue shopping."
