- levitron, on 12/11/2007, -2/+110This sort of thing makes me want to stop being a wannabe geek, and actually learn something...
- rpgguy1o1, on 12/11/2007, -2/+68this guy has been doing some pretty amazing things with the wii remote, i hope he keeps at it. I'm going to have to give this a try
- paulg2000, on 12/11/2007, -1/+44What I'm most impressed with is how well the interface works. Low latency + high precision = Pretty remarkable stuff.
- Jeffler, on 12/11/2007, -1/+27There is but it costs several thousand dollars...
- ricksite, on 12/11/2007, -0/+24"...may sound boring, but it's actually a very cool..." Don't beat yourself up. It is far from boring. Kick ass hack and no soldering required. Dugg!
- BigLou, on 12/11/2007, -0/+22Unlike his "Minority Report" Wiimote mod (which was still cool), this is something I could actually get some use out of for conference meetings and whatnot. I'm surprised there isn't an actual product to do this very thing.
- thatcrazycommie, on 12/11/2007, -3/+21How is the Wiimote sending information to the computer?
edit: Oh, never mind, I didn't know the Wiimote used bluetooth. - zeyad, on 12/11/2007, -6/+24Nevermind, got it. Bury me.
- RandomSkratch, on 12/11/2007, -5/+22Johnny Lee you're my new hero.
Wii FTW!
C'mon SuxAxis, try to copy this one. - jperdomo, on 12/11/2007, -1/+16Minority Report on a budget. I like it.
- KidTechno, on 12/11/2007, -1/+13That is freaking awesome......
- Chabonga, on 12/11/2007, -2/+14The wiimote uses bluetooth to work with his custom software. The really neat thing is the calibration build into his application that allows the user to but the remote about anywhere that it can get a good 45 degree field of vision.
- rpong1981, on 12/11/2007, -0/+11To connect you wiimote to your computer you need two things: Software and Hardware. The software is called "Blue Soleil". The hardware is a bluetooth adapter for your computer. Here's the sauce on how to hook it up: http://www.wiili.org/index.php/How_To:_BlueSoleil
- nmcphee, on 12/11/2007, -1/+11He has another video which " lets you interact with your computer simply by waving your hands in the air similar to the interaction seen in the movie "Minority Report"": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0awjPUkBXOU&eurl=ht ...
- Stay521, on 12/12/2007, -0/+10I teach third grade at a brand new school, and the district payed a ridiculous amount of money to have a Smart Board in every room. Maybe they should have watched this video first. Plus, I wouldn't mind having a Wii laying around the classroom for my own enjoyment.
- bulltradamus, on 12/11/2007, -0/+9I think this guy made a pretty cool video. He should have his own show covering topics like this!
- jdavscru, on 12/11/2007, -0/+8Oh man... Please please get the mac version out as soon as possible. This looks so cool. Useful as well.
- i4mt3hwin, on 12/12/2007, -1/+9This guy just put the Microsoft Surface to shame.
- TangentThought, on 12/12/2007, -0/+7Wow... and to think, I was going to buy a tablet PC.
- soccerman90, on 12/11/2007, -0/+7You know whats really expensive, a whiteboard that is touch sensitive. Thats a serious chunk of change out the window
- nirav72, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6I wonder ..if instead of using the IR light pen, if he were to mount the IR led onto a ring that he can wear on his finger. Then just use his hands to move and resize object on the screen. I think that would be closer to the minority report interface.
- shayne_sweeney, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5What the hell are you talking about? What did you assume he was meaning? I don't think you understand the word "hack".
- soccerman90, on 12/11/2007, -1/+6That is awesome! Basically you can turn any projector that is hooked up to a computer into a touch interactive board
- mercurysquad, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5He shows if you don't have a beamer, just use the computer/laptop screen as your 'whiteboard' !
- ghosteater, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5he demonstrated using it with his laptop. any display.
- chingy1788, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5better put a screen protector on that LCD Screen
- vitriolage, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Try a quick google for DIY Projectors. There's tons of resources online:
http://www.lumenlab.com/S15_PDF/Lumenlab_DIY_proje ... - Chugaboy, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4wow hell yes Mr. Lee!
Lets hear it for alien technology! - maxsunset, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4I thought that was even cooler! This tech could be used for some really cool game interactivity... I see it on the horizon already...
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4This guy is awesome. I wish I could figure that kind of stuff out.
- Verytastycheese, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3Sweet!
My projector can display in rear projection mode... I'm wondering about setting this up with the IR light on the front of the pen, and the projector and wiimote behind the screen so that I'm not getting in the way at all. It'd have to be a semi-transparent screen...
Sounds sweet... anyone know why this wouldn't work? - grumbel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Something like that was posted a week or two ago, I think it was from the same guy. Worked by having a strong IR-LED light source illuminating reflective tape on the fingers. However I think the pen is the better idea, because you have a button on the pen to switch the light on or off, when you do it with the fingers it becomes troublesome to know when you are clicking and when not.
- CodyZ, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3This is the type of stuff I like to see on the front page.
- ckup619, on 12/11/2007, -2/+5yes, the wiimote part is cheap, however a video showing how to make a projector out of anything would make this video a little more useful to those of us on a budget.
- numbnuts, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Bluetooth - if you dont have bluetooth a USB adapter runs about $25 - still a drop in the bucket for the functionality
- JohnDavis730, on 12/11/2007, -1/+4so all i have to do is connect my wiimote to my computer, how do i do that? help please!
- mercurysquad, on 12/12/2007, -2/+4Just get a wii remote and bluetooth dongle, download PureData and wiisense , and start hacking away! You don't need to be a PhD in human computer interaction to create cool stuff like this, it's just some basic math and a little playing around, and of course creativity, of which this guy has bucket loads! Also check out 'the amazing rolo' and his wii loop machine. He is more into using the wii remote's motion sensors.
- styromaniac, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2So I can draw or write stuff with a laser pointer?
- fistikuffs, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2ungrateful bastard
- iofthestorm, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2You can get them on sale for $5 if you're lucky too.
- styromaniac, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah. That doesn't sound queer at all, dasdef.
- Romanito, on 12/12/2007, -1/+2Actually it may require some soldering to build the light pen, but it's still quite easy.
- killthemoles, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1now we just need the compiz fusion plugin...
- reddevil3, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1There are various software out there. There is a program called GlovePIE where you can track almost all the functionality of the Wiimote and map it to other computer functions.
- patch6, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Ingenious.
- heartsblood, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1..impressed.
- mercurysquad, on 12/12/2007, -2/+3Blue Soleil is only needed on Windows, by the way. Linux and Mac work fine with the built-in bluetooth stack.
- calvmari, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Wow Johnny Chung Lee is insane, everything on his project page is interesting.
- hoovcluck, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1donnie darko anyone?
that was scary as hell - acidbass, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously, they are all sold out in my area, its been almost a year, and it doesnt look like nintendo wants to make anymore.
What the hell? This is the first time i wanted to buy a game console, and literally couldnt b/c there werent any.
