- fuzzytank, on 05/08/2009, -1/+47hmm.. Needs more Earthbound.
- lordwow, on 05/08/2009, -4/+43Goldeneye.
- Raitendo, on 05/08/2009, -1/+38Completely pointless list based on nothing but groundless speculation.
- ZhiZaki, on 05/08/2009, -1/+23Dugg for a great list, but secretly dugg for Rocket Knight Adventures. ( *awesomeness* )
- inactive, on 05/08/2009, -1/+19Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time remake is coming for the 360.
- Mike17102, on 05/08/2009, -0/+17I buried the list simply because it didnt have Goldeneye on it. How the ***** do you miss that one?
- PeanutCheeseBar, on 05/08/2009, -0/+15No, fuzzy just made the astute observation that EarthBound will never come to Virtual Console, no matter how badly we all want it.
- hansrodtang, on 05/08/2009, -2/+16This is why emulators exist.
- MentalBeaver, on 05/08/2009, -2/+15I expected Goldeneye to be number one.
- JollyDumple, on 05/08/2009, -0/+11Earthbound's being held back for incredibly stupid legal reasons, if I remember correctly. But what about Yoshi's Island? You'd think that would be up by now.
- davincih, on 05/08/2009, -1/+11Dugg for Battletoads and Doubledragon. Loved that game. Would play it right now.
- BrownieMix, on 05/08/2009, -1/+11I'm still waiting for Bomberman 64 and Donkey Kong 64...
- Mavital, on 05/08/2009, -0/+9MAME Cabinet for the win.
- melonhedd, on 05/08/2009, -0/+80. Earthbound - Nintendo will never release this just to piss off the fanboys
- quakeIII, on 05/08/2009, -0/+8I'm surprised a list about this topic wouldn't include Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Sega Genesis)
The goal of the game is basically to rescue children each level and to use your 'magic' and dance moves to take down the bad guys. - maleki, on 05/08/2009, -0/+7Buried because they called it Safari, when I believe it said right on the cover Surfari. Surf based puns will never make a comeback if you refuse to use them.
- Elranzer, on 05/08/2009, -0/+6I find the list extremely poor and inaccurate. Why? The majority of the games are there for "obscurity" reasoning. I think the bulk of the games on VC proves that obscurity is not a factor here, it's up to the publishers. One merely needs to look at all of the TurboGrafx 16, Commodore 64 and Genesis choices to see what I'm talking about.
Rainbow Islands stands out the most. It's the well-known sequel to Bubble Bobble (which is already on VC I believe). It will eventually make it. VC sales are picking up thanks to the new firmware that enables SD storage.
They state "Nintendo is Rare's bitch" is pretty much backwards. I remember it like this: Nintendo sold Rare off because they started to suck (and still do). They haven't made a good game after the Nintendo split, except for Viva Pinata (and that actually made it to the Nintendo DS post-Microsoft purchase). Now that Microsoft is publishing some titles on the DS as well, I don't think Rare is the reason for some games not appearing on VC.
Battletoads vs Double Dragon is only on there due to Rare, but it's popular enough to be ported eventually.
I think about the only game we'll "never" see on VC is Goldeneye 64.That and Super Mario All-Stars, as Nintendo probably wants to whore out each of the four Mario games for $5/piece instead of $8 for the updated collection. Every other game has a chance. - iDoraemon, on 05/08/2009, -0/+6StarTropics, one of the most underrated NES games that also happened to be one awesome pseudo-Zelda sequel, got on Virtual Console when people said it wouldn't. Who's to say the rest of those games won't?
- ttam, on 05/08/2009, -1/+7This is the EXACT reason I gave up on the VC and installed the Homebrew Channel.
- GIRaffe89, on 05/08/2009, -6/+12lol seriously?
- ZombieSociety, on 05/08/2009, -1/+6So you DON'T want Earthbound on VC?
- 3leggedHorse, on 05/08/2009, -1/+6Just get yourself a decent emulator.
- ninjaturtles1, on 05/08/2009, -0/+5Dugg for Ninja Turtles! :D
- ELCad, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4How about any EA game showing up on the Wii VC? EA is blackballing Nintendo since they are it's main competitor.
Realm of Impossibilities
M.U.L.E.
Racing Destruction Set
Mail Order Monsters
Mutant League Football and Hockey - bobotheking, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4There's a port out for GBA, so they probably won't release it for a good long while. I know it makes no sense, but this is coming from the industry that refuses to sanction the use of ROMs for games they've never had any intention of releasing (best example: Mother/Earthbound Zero).
P.S.:
"Fighting, and sometimes striving! Wondering what the Dumple is... Excellence and what is valor? And The Cheat will hit stuff with a golf club!
C-G-N-...U!" - Pxtl, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4"KI showed that Nintendo actually COULD have an awesome fighter on their console with the Nintendo 64, and Killer Instinct Gold would be a great addition to the Virtual Console, which pretty much only has Street Fighter for true fighting fans and that’s about it."
True Fighting Fans don't like Samurai Shodown 2?
Either way, if we're going tot alk games that will never ever appear on the Wii DLC, I think Custer's Revenge is pretty much the top of the list.
Either way, we're all just biding our time utnil we get Metal Warriors. - MentalBeaver, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Isn't it on there already? River City Ransom is also called Street Gangs isn't it?
- Yage2006, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Tnats ok they all play fine on my pc if I wanted to play them.
- themastersb, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4It's missing Goldeneye. Same problem as with KI as to why we wont be seeing it on VC.
- shininia, on 05/09/2009, -0/+4Perfect Dark has been confirmed for XBLA....
- philipz78, on 05/09/2009, -0/+4What about Mario Tennis (N64)? What's taking them so long with that one?
- mpchester, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Killer Instinct 1 over Gold any day!
- eanbowman, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Rocket Knight Adventures is pure win.
I didn't like Sparkster as much as RKE but both are great examples of GENESIS platforming. - Clbull, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4An XBLA port of Goldeneye almost made the light of day, but it was cancelled. Its a shame really because Goldeneye was one of the best first person shooters ever, simply because the multiplayer kicked ass, and the single player levels were memorable and mostly fun (there wasn't really a level in Goldeneye that sucked.)
- nuketrap, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4What about Battle Toads! I want huge knees filling my screen!
- xsecretfiles, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Actually there was a strong rumor around that Killer Instinct might just make it to the XBLA, to be unveiled at E3
- Projektorboy, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4FTA: "The most fun you'll ever have controlling a gorilla."
I guess all the accomplishments of Donkey Kong flew under this guy's radar. - smoger, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Wow,.. what an uninformed article. Aside from the previously mentioned licensing issues with RARE for Killer Instinct(the game sucks, anyway.. sorry) there's no real reason at all why any of those other games wouldn't be able to show up on the VC. The author doesn't even *attempt* to convince us that he has good reason for it.
In fact, some of these games are downright LIKELY to be released on the VC. Rainbow Islands has received countless remakes and re-releases over the years and there's already a WiiWare port available in some parts of the world. Ninja Turtles is a current popular license and other TMNT games have already appeared on VC.
Oh, also.. the author might want to boot up his Wii and discover that there ARE arcade titles on the Virtual Console. - Mike17102, on 05/08/2009, -1/+5I would much rather see it on the XBL Arcade with multiplayer support built in.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4Except for Killer Instinct due to the Nintendo/Rare licensing issues.
Which is also why Goldeneye won't be showing up on either Wii or 360 either. - JMacGill, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3Some of the games listed as Genesis were also on the SNES.
Also, screw Killer Instinct Gold. It’s just a polygon version of Killer Instinct 2. Will the original Killer Instinct with its superior graphics and fatality endings ever come out on virtual console? - tobytobiasjones, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Hot damn... Thrilla's Safari was top notch.
- inactive, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3I guess there is no chance of seeing Custer's Revenge either?
- Tiptup300, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3Wow, citations needed all over the place. I remember rareware saying they would like KI on the VC.
- TrancePhreak, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3"Like all ports back then, the SNES version was the way to go, no question"
Obviously never played Desert Strike on the SNES, or MK2, or etc ... - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Apparently the reason Earthbound won't be released is it contains a bunch of audio samples from things like Beatles songs, the Monty Python theme, and more...plus MANY references to movies and American pop culture. Somehow, none of this mattered in 1995, but now NOA's lawyers are wringing their hands about it. If Earthbound WAS re-released on the VC, a lot of stuff would have to be changed, which would completely taint the experience. Perhaps it's best this way???
- robEstyles, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3This list makes no sense it should list actual games that really WONT make it for obvious reasons like:
Earthbound (Nintendo already said it won't)
Goldeneye (Lost the licensing plus RARE made it)
Any RARE game (Stupid MS)
These games while obscure still have a decent shot at being put on there. - chatzimcfee, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3It's not very secret when you tell everyone.
- bakatrinh, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3The music in Battletoads Double Dragon is so ***** epic. The guy that composed it was a genius.
- BrownieMix, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Bomberman 64 was one of the highlights for the n64 for me. Very underrated game.
