- shaughn13, on 01/17/2009, -2/+40who cares who the digger is. You're digging the story.
- Verytastycheese, on 01/17/2009, -0/+21The sensor bar is a misnomer, as it doesn't actually sense anything, it's just a pair of infrared lights that the wiimote's infra red camera uses as a reference point. You can power it using a 9 volt battery if you have a bit of basic soldering skill, just google an article on making a wireless wii sensor bar.
- foltaggio, on 01/17/2009, -0/+19Don't digg or bury based on the submitter, instead digg/bury based on the content.
- cardyology, on 01/17/2009, -0/+12Wiibuntu?
- darkhand, on 01/17/2009, -0/+12Is there a similar project that supports the Wii Fit board? I've been looking for something that would turn it into a plain old scale.
- ArthurSucks, on 01/17/2009, -0/+9I want to put Xbox Media Center on a PS3 running Linux and control it with a WiiMote.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+7Digging or burying based on submitter is the same tactics employed by the top diggers to get that way. If you bury a story because of who submitted it, despite it being content you would normally Digg, you are no different than those that Digg a story just because someone on their friend list submitted it. Never Digg or bury a story based on submitter, unless you know they hijacked the story from someone else.
- cardyology, on 01/17/2009, -6/+14All this "buried for mrbabyspam" etc.. stuff is kinda getting stupid.
I'm all for giving the average digger the power to get FP stories but wasnt the whole point of the debate that power users were obscuring content because it was just their stories getting to the front of digg? By burying this simply on the basis that the submitter is a power user you just push a decent article away from the front page & away from the "normal" diggers.
Its all about the content not the users! If Brainnovate or any other power user hadn't submitted this, it wouldnt have hit the front & I wouldnt have seen it so I for one am glad they did. - U83RMENSCH, on 01/17/2009, -1/+8its linux.. so.. no.
- buddamus, on 01/17/2009, -1/+8Is there anything Ubuntu can't do?
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+6You can also do this in Windows, it's a bit more difficult, but still worth while. I have Ubuntu though, I'll have to try this sometime.
- kalvinb, on 01/17/2009, -0/+6While that app gets your wiimote connected and reading sensor data (pretty much the same as the managed Wiimote library for Windows) the following will probably come in handy if you want to use the wiimote as a pointing device.
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Wiimote/Pointing#Pointing_ ...
A sample app implementing the pointer math is available here:
http://blog.dawnofthegeeks.com/2009/01/01/a-better ...
A few simple mini games using the Wiimote as a pointer are available here:
http://blog.dawnofthegeeks.com/2009/01/08/elmos-wo ...
Once you get the pointer functionality going you're all set for making a wide variety of games. - inactive, on 01/17/2009, -5/+11I keep seeing people use the Wiimote on their PC's but, how are they connecting the sensor bar? What method do they use to receive the input from the Wiimote?
- PHJames88, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Non-Linux nerds have nothing to do but sit on Digg all day and berate Linux apparently.
- Thoku, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5I just got my media box running Ubuntu and Boxee set up. I'm going to see if I can use my wii controller to move the mouse on that rather than needing a mouse or another remote.
- GavinZac, on 01/17/2009, -4/+8Use the reply button. Oh, and spell your name properly, Sean.
- Nickedynick, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4For more details of how to get it working properly in Ubuntu:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993376&am ...
And a video demoing it! Note that candles are used in place of the 'sensor' bar.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ALqduQfm09c - r3bol, on 01/17/2009, -1/+5All you need is sudo
- MisteR2, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4I assume that Amiga502 has never played Descent...
/btw it rocks with a wiimote and nunchuk, no sensor bar needed - kalvinb, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3The managed Wiimote library has the ability to connect to the Wii Balance board and calculate your weight
http://blogs.msdn.com/coding4fun/archive/2007/03/1 ...
Since the source is available it'd be pretty trivial to swipe the calculations and plug them into the Ubuntu version. - ladyattis, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3Can't fetch you a beer and have a nice rack. ;)
- nachowski, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Since the wiimote's camera detects any kind of infrared light, you can also use other sources of light such as light bulbs or candles instead of the sensor bar.
- infectaphibian, on 01/17/2009, -1/+4All my devices work, and I do enjoy it. Most poeple should probably stick to Windows though, especially if you got your PC at Wallmart.
- jestin, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2I wrote a linux library for the Wii Balance Board in C++, for use with this project: http://blog.cowtowncomputercongress.org/?p=153
The library is not quite complete, but contact me if you want the code. Otherwise I have the tarball up at http://groups.google.com/group/ccckc
Happy hacking! - diego10, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Reminds of other fun uses for the wiimote from the guys at hardcode.tv: http://podcastmachine.com/podcasts/179
- 3leggedHorse, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Google "sixaxis-GUI" and then the same can be done with the PS3 controller.
Great for playing old PS games, as long as you own the original. ;-0 - MattCutts, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1darkhand, the reason I originally did this blog post was that I wanted to turn a Wii Balance Board into a networked scale too. Here's a patch that adds Wii Balance Board abilities to the Linux CWiid library: http://abstrakraft.org/cwiid/ticket/63
- r3bol, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1sudo fetch beer | over nice rack
- Bouncer169, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1What is the point of using a Wii Remote with Linux? There will be next to no games to use it with anyway.
- dadaas, on 08/02/2009, -0/+1Not bad. I have ubuntu on 2 computers will try this out. Thanks.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2And just a few weeks ago, Digg went on a giant fit over power users.
- jamesmcm, on 01/17/2009, -2/+1Wow, someone needs to do some compiz effects with headtracking and this!
Anyway of doing this on OS X as my iMac has built-in bluetooth. - bitbytebit, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2***** sudo ..run as root, my number one complaint about ubuntu and ubuntu users is ..sudo
any distro that encourges sudo actually - FFXIfrohike, on 01/17/2009, -3/+1***** it, buried anyway. Hate this guy, sorry. Besides this story is old... typical power-user months-old necro-digging.
- sojakfa, on 01/17/2009, -1/+0I would argue that we're better off since it requires much less effort to screw around on Digg to get the same net result :P
- failtrain, on 01/17/2009, -3/+2He did.
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Shaughn - powatom, on 01/17/2009, -3/+1Can't run Crysis.
- sojakfa, on 01/17/2009, -2/+0Game?
- rivalius13, on 01/17/2009, -6/+3sudo digg this comment
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -9/+2Old, I've heard and done this far too many times before. Cool I guess though... You can do this in any distro if you know how to build software.
- 6oo63D, on 01/17/2009, -10/+3I propose we jump to W... this is the Wonderful Wubuntu
- sojakfa, on 01/17/2009, -8/+0Linux nerds have nothing better to do apparently...
- eliteblast, on 01/17/2009, -9/+1Another boring linux post, ubuntu is *****, sorry, enjoy trying to get anything to work properly, such as a digital camera.
- Tophillious, on 01/17/2009, -33/+2buried for power digger. But this is kinda cool :P

What is Digg?
