- deaftly, on 05/22/2008, -2/+68That is Wiidiculous
- fishbeef33, on 05/22/2008, -1/+45"without embarassing themselves," huh? No, there's absolutely nothing embarassing about having to strap a fake plastic steering wheel to a milk crate so you can keep Boo from falling into lava again. Yeah.
- erichw1504, on 05/22/2008, -1/+23that's gotta weigh down the kart, let alone add wind resistance. With gas prices these days... i don't know man.
- mlvassallo, on 05/22/2008, -0/+17So wait.. the goal is NOT embarrassing non-gamers?
- yunus, on 05/22/2008, -0/+14They make wheels with suction cups so you can attach them to your coffee table.
http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/ ... - diggit08, on 05/22/2008, -1/+14but does it reduce carbon emmisions?
- lostarchitect, on 05/22/2008, -2/+15"revolutionary"? really?
- SketchaMPM, on 05/22/2008, -1/+12Here's a solution: Use a different controller.
- TheInfamousOne, on 05/22/2008, -1/+11maybe a bit wiitarded
- hugepedlar, on 05/22/2008, -1/+10I might have a go at making one of these. Right now I'm finding it much easier using the nunchuck to race. I find the wheel makes me drift the wrong way about 20% of the time, which pisses me right off.
Plus with a thumbstick you know exactly how far full lock is, unlike the wheel which gives you no frame of reference. - flintmecha, on 05/22/2008, -2/+11Whoops, I intentionally buried you.
- kevdotbadger, on 05/22/2008, -1/+7Go into your profile and undigg it then?
- i4ybrid, on 05/22/2008, -0/+6I think the wheel sucks. It's far too sensitive to feel like I'm even driving a go-kart. Those things usually turn 360 (180 degreees each way), this one turns about 90 degrees before steering stops having an effect. I play Mario Kart on the Wii with the GC controller.
- SketchaMPM, on 05/22/2008, -0/+6It's not friendly to nongamers, as the article almost points out...it also wasn't for me or any of my friends. Most people stick to GameCube or Classic Controller.
I actually prefer the Wiimote+Nunchuck myself (it's easier to do tricks that way). - fireclub, on 05/22/2008, -2/+6.... i'm speechless... who would have thought they'd go through all that effort instead of just using the gamecube controller.
- nshady, on 05/22/2008, -0/+4Sure, no one will ever actually recreate that themselves, but I'm still giving the guy credit for coming up with a pretty neat idea.
- Avaseal, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3I agree with your second point..but it's not a hack
- TigerGD, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3You're right. I should have slapped a VTEC decal on it for more horsepower.
- daridave, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3I would be ashamed of posting something like that. Seriously...
- JTJ1210, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world - Gggarth, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3You've got to turn the wheel BEFORE you hit the button :)
- peterredding, on 05/22/2008, -2/+5Can't wait to see a YouTube video of someone losing a race, throwing the controller across the room and having it bounce back and hit them in the face.
- schif, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2The only thing I didn't like about the article was that he shops a Wal-Mart.
- coolkatz321, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2Well, as embarrassed as I am to say this, I found a milk carton and some bungee cords and put this together... I look like an idiot, but the thing works ABSURDLY well. woooooo :(
- Terr01, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2But I have a very gweat fwiend in wome with a wii, you wascal! I shall have my centuwion stwike you very wufly!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPGb4STRfKw - beepsy, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2When I bought the game I intended it to be a game to play with the girlfriend. That said not only do I use the wheel but I wasted some money on a second piece of molded plastic so we could both use one at the same time.
With that said, I don't think the wheel is bad. I managed to finish the whole single player game (through mirror courses) with the wheel.
I definitely admit that if you are playing to be as competitive as possible the wheel is not your best bet, however for dorking around with friends its definitely usable and rather enjoyable. - Namesbond, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2Is it soo hard to just use a GameCube controller?
- TigerGD, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2In my photos, the cords are placed over the buttons, but I adjusted it before shooting the video and the cords didn't impede my ability to fire weapons or anything.
- nard3456, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3So how do you manage to do tricks with a milk crate attached to your wheel?
+1 for creativity
-1 for functionality - Checkerd, on 05/22/2008, -4/+6That was punny
- jjustice, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2I'm hoping it was just a bad "wheel" joke.
- flashpointbob, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2from what I saw... that contraption is FT2nd place
- thecheatah, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2not friendly to non-gamers, more like non friendly at all.
- Xanrez, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1All of that work, and you'd think he would be good at Mario Kart. From what I saw of the video, I could drive circles around him with the nunchuck.
- TigerGD, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1It's Mario Kart (sans Super), so it's really cheap use of items FTW. I edited out the part where I was a kart length from the finish line and got blue-shelled into finishing second.
- odinfire, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1Looks pretty gay.
- adamkmccarthy, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1thats genius. fair play. i personally prefer the old wavebird or game cube controllers though. way more responsive.
- flintmecha, on 05/22/2008, -1/+2Why? The Wheel is really fun to use. Just hard to master.
- crsd36, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Gamecube controller all the way.
- coyote1284, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Can you still do the wheelies and jump-tricks when using the nunchuck? Pretty sure you can't with GC controller.
- coyote1284, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1...and lose some functions
- TigerGD, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1"Revolutionary" is the title of the recurring feature which runs every other week at Wii Fanboy.
- oldnavy1918, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Am i the only one that likes using the wheel? It is just so much more fun to me. I win a lot of races with it too!
- ssj2119, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1that is just awesome - might try it :p
- willr001, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1His demonstration Wiideo was the most poorly lit and conceived online vid i've ever seen. And ***** long too, i switched tabs and like 6 minutes later was like is that thing looping? (background music from video) Nope. It's juts that long.
I love the cuts too, like it'll cut to him getting hit by a shell, and before he gets going again, it cuts to something else. Thanks, seeing you get hit with a shell really showed me something about your doodad you made there.
Epic fail. - luckyguy2000, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1embarrassed non-gamers are likely to freak out and blame their lack of hand-eye-coordination on the "obviously" not existing real life of the winning gamer short before walking out of the door and feeling like a winner.
never trust a non-gamer. - theaceoffire, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Don't be harsh, he is trying to be wiisponcible.
(In that case, miission accomplished) - TigerGD, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Target charges more for their bungie cords.
- sjmulder, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1except in bed.
