- Cubedude04, on 01/07/2008, -3/+99Man those look awesome. If only they were big enough for a wallpaper.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/07/2008, -19/+11Find someone with Photoshop and you can make one perfectly for your monitor.
- badjoke, on 01/07/2008, -8/+18Stretching the image doesn't really compare with having a larger version.
- zengonzo, on 01/07/2008, -4/+16I'd assumed he meant actually create one using the same method.
- knetworx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Which was a very clever method. I didn't see an explanation or anything on there, but it looks like he took some 360-degree panoramic photos and rotated them around a center point (usually at his feet, as you can see in the ones where there is a random shadow cast on the ground with no body attached to it). Very impressive how smooth it was put together.
- knetworx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Edit: I see an explanation on the flickr page posted below.

- lsbigbro11, on 01/07/2008, -2/+1It was at the bottom of the damn page....
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Blame Digg for the stupid timer on the edit button. I'd say they need to give you a bit more time because I would have been able to edit it with just a few more seconds. Oh well... at least I saved myself from a gutting.
- forzaruler, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1No worries. I'm to busy finishing my list anyway. I'm half way through high school, but by next month I should be into my acquaintances from college.

- volacide, on 01/07/2008, -6/+1Wow... they don't look so hot at original resolution. Disappointing.
- stopbrorape, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3I think they look great. I was expecting some douche in a Mario outfit when i clicked on the story.
- volacide, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1Some of them are aliased to hell and the very first one with the Eiffel tower has some funky clone stamp leftovers it seems, they do look fantastic at like the 1024 resolution and others though. It seems you missed the very key words in my comment, "original resolution."
- volacide, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1I'd like to go on record and say that anyone digging down my comments are Paint users.

- BestJaxx, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4It's a small world after all.

- Brad324, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1"my extensive english vocabulary"
might have reflected a better... vocabulary. - triskele, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1If my vocabulary was extensive I probably would've used that word, but I haven't touched a Thesaurus since grammar school.
Oh, and my grammar sucks too. But did I get the point across? I think so.
One more thing. 12 diggs over -1 says a genuine comment with poor grammar and vocabulary(which was more or less the point of my comment) wins over being an *****. - triskele, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Yea, Comment systems was ***** up up so I had to post this in kinda the wrong place. It's in reply to "Brad324"

- MonkeysBlood, on 01/07/2008, -6/+4What a bad head i have now! Awesome pics though!
- SideShowMel0329, on 01/07/2008, -10/+1I like the one that is just a green field with very nice looking clouds around it, very cool looking. But why is the sky around it blue, since it's a view from space (obviously) shouldn't it be black with stars?
- Cupantae, on 01/07/2008, -1/+3The planet is dense enough to have an atmosphere very big in comparison to its size
(obviously) - rnelsonee, on 01/07/2008, -2/+2It's from a real picture. The only photoshopping req'd for these pictures is to convert rectangular -> polar. It's blue because the sky was blue when the photographer took the picture.
- controlguy, on 01/07/2008, -2/+1I believe the photo is a 360-degree panorama that was wrapped around onto itself.
- Cupantae, on 01/07/2008, -1/+3The planet is dense enough to have an atmosphere very big in comparison to its size
- goldenhearted, on 01/07/2008, -6/+3Gives "WELCOME, NEW GALAXY!" more meaning.
- Agger, on 01/07/2008, -8/+1some are great, some are fail
- Dunhamzzz, on 01/07/2008, -10/+2Cool pictures but not done justice with being put in Super Mario context.
Lame title.- Cupantae, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4It's good; it's just misleading
- hotbuffalo, on 01/07/2008, -6/+1Best Pic Mirror: http://www.favoritepart.com/Default.aspx?img=878&a ...
- rnelsonee, on 01/07/2008, -1/+17Cool. I just made my first 'planet' this weekend and it was pretty easy. There's an amazing program called Autostitch which automatically makes a panorama for you with no user input required - you just throw a bunch of your pictures at it and it'll put them all together (although you can change things, like output quality). Once you have that picture, you just convert rectangular -> polar in Photoshop/Gimp and you're done.
My first try at a planet, with some obvious Photoshopping for color saturation:

- dimplemonkey, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4D'oh! Loved the 404 that showed up!
- cawfee, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4That's really neat for a first try :D might have to give that a shot later on.
- DickyT83, on 01/07/2008, -1/+2***** awesome. I'd be interested to see what other stuff looks like besides landscapes and what not.
- rnelsonee, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Since you asked - I made one of my den: http://www.terrapintables.com/graphics/interior.jp ...
- DickyT83, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Man that looks bitchin. Well done good sir, well done.

- reazal, on 01/07/2008, -5/+10The title is misleading and to put this into the gaming section is far more misleading. Cool pictures though!

- badjoke, on 01/07/2008, -5/+2I'm glad that description was there to clear the title up for me.
- TapeMan, on 01/07/2008, -4/+0Thats a pretty cool idea, the only problem is in a few of them you can see the shadow of the person that took the picture.
- Barryke, on 01/07/2008, -4/+2Consider this prior art, as this photo trickshot technique (and if i'm not mistaken some of the foto's themselves) was used over 10 years ago. With lenses instead of photoshop though.
- NiGHTSChao, on 01/07/2008, -10/+3Dugg for the pics, not the stupid mario reference
- cracker42, on 01/07/2008, -3/+29Grrrr... I submitted these photos a month ago and only got 8 diggs. Now I see why people use sensational, uninformative headlines and descriptions :-/
http://www.digg.com/arts_culture/Wee_Planets_A_Pho ...- SasquatchBill, on 01/07/2008, -0/+14A microcosm experience as to why our media is so sensational.
Either that, or a lesson as to why you shouldn't use the word "Wee". - FredFredrickson, on 01/07/2008, -3/+1What is up with the obsession that you have to call these photos "planets?" It's a photographic technique that's interesting to look at - calling them pictures of small planets just makes it sound like dumb, forwarded-to-death, email garbage.
- RandomTaskMan, on 01/07/2008, -0/+6because people are comparing them to the planets in Super Mario Galaxy
THATS why. - cracker42, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4Actually, I called them "Planets" because that's what the original artist called them on Flickr:

- antongranik, on 01/07/2008, -5/+3Where in the game are these levels? Didn't find'em... %(
- ianhxmen, on 01/07/2008, -14/+0this is gay. You all have no lives. Grow up. I bet alot of you are in your twenties and thirties and you still play this game. Grow up. Thats why theres alot of obesity in the US these days.
- RandomTaskMan, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Still?
It just came out a few months ago.... - jake6730, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2I have never actually played this game, I have seen my brother play it. But that aside, it looks like a sweet game, and I never play video games. You are just going to have to realize that video games are becoming a lot more mainstream, so get used to it.
- mattcoady, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Haha, you're just an angry old man (check out his profile). Get off my lawn you whippersnappers!
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Nah, he's probably just some kid who's parents never let him play games. He takes his frustration out with gay porn and trolling websites.
- slicedoranges, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1I'm that kid that knocked up your daughter.
- jbrowng, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2"We do not stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing"
- RandomTaskMan, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Still?
- FredFredrickson, on 01/07/2008, -7/+2I like how you've completely marginalized any artistic value this work might have had by referring to it as "real life super mario galaxy" when that was neither the intention or meaning of any of these pictures.
- dancentury, on 01/07/2008, -6/+1Didn't Nintendo cop this idea from Ratchet and Clank?
- FredFredrickson, on 01/07/2008, -0/+6Sure, if you completely ignore all the other games before Ratchet and Clank that also had spherical worlds... Sonic 3 anyone?
- hairyblue, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1I believe i saw it first in Populous: the beginning
- JayRD, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1So did I.
- simland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0I think I saw it first on the nature channel.
- lime148, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3Halo invented planets, actually.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1OH NO!!! We can't like Spore now, either!
Everyone must bow before Ratchet and Clank!
- play150, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8The sixth picture looks like the eye in Lord of the Rings.
