- Dan137exe, on 04/21/2008, -3/+133That's pretty disappointing, but I've seen more worse:

*Hint* - bottom right circle. - Dan137exe, on 04/21/2008, -2/+118"More worse"? I'm an idiot.
- XenoSNK, on 04/21/2008, -8/+101I don't see the big deal other than the hilarity that ensues.
- EvanVolm, on 04/21/2008, -4/+91Better comparison: http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8803/okamignvt8.p ...
- Sansui, on 04/21/2008, -2/+69I've worked in graphic design for a while now, both in print and web, and I think it's a pretty clear case of the designer being given a deadline and little to no assets to work from. Whether this is poor asset management from an internal team or a freelancer, I don't know, but if I could count the number of times I've asked for a print quality piece of artwork and received... gasp... a photocopy?! or a scanned photocopy?! It's just not even funny thinking of how many times I've quickly rebuilt a logo in print quality to meet a deadline.
Now, if it were me, I woulda found that watermark and cleaned it the hell off, but this kind of situation leaves much to blame on Capcom as well. If they would have listened to the designer's request for appropriate assets or maybe.. hrm... actually looked at the proof they were given before signing off, wouldn't be an issue. - pauleku, on 04/21/2008, -1/+59The people that made the game origonally had "bad blood" with capcom and left. When capcom decided to make the game for Wii, they didnt have all of the art assets in the game (and had to re-do much of the game from the ground up). Thus, they searched EVERYWHERE for assets to the game. This is silly, but is evidence to show how desperate they were to find all the origonal okami stuff.
- doshindude, on 04/21/2008, -13/+63someone's getting fired/sued.
So game developers don't even create their own box art anymore? they gotta rip it off from somewhere else? - BlueCyclone, on 04/21/2008, -0/+46Wow. Not even just the bottom right circle, but every circle.
- fkr3, on 04/21/2008, -1/+44Don't beat yourself up, there's very more stupid people around.
- OlnyGuy, on 04/21/2008, -3/+45Capcom? Sucks for that designer.
- grumbel, on 04/21/2008, -3/+41It is not "ripped off", since what was "ripped off" is all Okami material and thus property of Capcom anyway. This seems like a case where the original source material wasn't available in time and the artist worked around the problem with stuff he found on the Internet. It is rather stupid, since you would expect that they would have enough Okami material flooding around to not take random stuff they found on the web, but lack of original source data happens all the time.
- mattcoady, on 04/21/2008, -3/+35You didn't say watermark. Watermark is way cooler than logo.
- Pooleep, on 04/21/2008, -3/+29Okami is a ***** amazing game.
Just thought I'd throw that out there. - jaggedbubbles, on 04/21/2008, -0/+22I'm sure it was supposed to be a comp. How it got to through the final draft is beyond me.
- Ytse, on 04/21/2008, -3/+19Dammit! That's all I'm going to see now... Ignorance was such bliss!
But, on the other hand, the watermark is not IN THE GAME--just the box cover. I probably NOT going to lose much sleep over this. - donatj, on 04/21/2008, -0/+15Dude, this came before Twilight Princess.
- fkr3, on 04/21/2008, -1/+15They created the game. Print Screen was IGN's friend first.
- Pyehole, on 04/21/2008, -3/+17No big deal other than the fact that it bitchslaps Capcom and makes them look like a bunch of amateurish chumps.
- Thugacation, on 04/21/2008, -1/+15This wouldn't have happened if he had spent a few more minutes on MS Paint.
- Spaceomega, on 04/21/2008, -0/+12Now I see it! Thanks.
- Doomsan, on 04/21/2008, -4/+15Why would he use a downloaded version from IGN rather than the original? too lazy to search it i guess.
- bxblox, on 04/21/2008, -0/+11"Since you approve, I'll send you a version for print in the morning"
"No, no this will do just fine" - TotalHalibut, on 04/21/2008, -0/+10The original people who made the game were Clover Studios, not Capcom. Capcom published the title, and owned Clover studios.. Clover Studios folded and closed down, as a result of a decision from the Board of Directors. Any speculation of 'bad blood' is just that, speculation.
- AmaDaden, on 04/21/2008, -0/+9It's easier to see when you look at the real box. I'm looking at it right now and it's damn clear if you know where to look.
- swrostmore, on 04/21/2008, -2/+10Game developers don't create their own box art. The publisher's marketing dept. does.
- hyAxis, on 04/21/2008, -2/+10Rule IV of the Internet: What has been seen cannot be unseen.
- ryananger, on 04/21/2008, -2/+10I fap to hot box art.
- EquesArdor, on 04/21/2008, -5/+13Hey Capcom:
HIRE ME!

1 hr (including other discarded drafts) - Protoss, on 04/21/2008, -1/+9sea?
- Matt174e, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9Wow, I remember those days when I was 12 and obsessed with N64.
n64.com kicked ass. - EquesArdor, on 04/21/2008, -1/+8I just realized that they photoshop'd out the sun disc on Amatarasu's back from the original artwork... *facepalm*
- Shissy, on 04/21/2008, -14/+21If nobody would of told me this I would have never of saw it. Since I know I can't look away :(
- shondell, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9What the hell kind of game is that anyways?
- iofthestorm, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6Well, it was a picture of their game on someone else's site. The real WTF is that they didn't use their own art since it's their own game.
- BobaFettTDG, on 04/21/2008, -2/+8EPIC PHOTOSHOP FAIL.
- logicalnoise, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6while clover is long gone someone still ported it but rarely do teh game devs actually design boxart.
- radsprack, on 04/21/2008, -1/+6How can you "sea" anything? See is a pretty hard word to ***** up, even WITH all the different homophones it has. Good job *****.
- withremote, on 04/21/2008, -3/+8should have moved that gradient mask just a little higher you twit.
- logicbus, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5True, but the watermark looks to come from the background image, and in the box art from the links you provided, you can still see the IGN watermark.
- Zarokima, on 04/21/2008, -1/+6No, once you know where to look you can make it out without the blowup.
- iofthestorm, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5Mass Effect? Really?
- crichton101, on 04/21/2008, -1/+6I don't sea it either. I do see it on the other hand.
- Subversyve, on 04/21/2008, -2/+7Awwww.. Now your not going to win the 10,000 dollar Digg.com grand prize. So sorry, try again next year.
- R75700, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5I would have to try to find something I cared about less.
- spoodigity, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4its definitely capcom's original image. The box art designer was just a moron and either didn't have access to the original image, or was lazy and didn't think anyone would notice if he just ripped it off the site. I mean, damn, he could of just as easily shopped it out.
- radsprack, on 04/21/2008, -2/+6Yeah that one is pretty bad. I doubt they could find a whole lot of baby pics on IGN though.
- mike81890, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5If nobody would HAVE told me this...
- theaceoffire, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4O.o in all honesty, most people don't see the box much. We either are playing the game or storing on the shelf or what have you.
- thewaxgrid, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4Haha. Either the designer was too lazy to tell the project manager that they need to purchase the full-res photo, or they had no-budget whatsoever. Regardless, it is a total disgrace, but so hilarious.
