No Wii-kly Update This Week — Enter WiiWare

news.filefront.com — As promised, WiiWare has finally launched today. Wii owners can now head to the Wii Shop Channel and start downloading any of the six previously announced launch titles. With the launch of WiiWare, there won ’t be any releases on the Virtual Console today, but the normal Wii-kly Update schedule will resume next week.

He must have mentioned it in at least 3 or 4 podcasts going back to before the Japanese release of it even... he loves the game. The others do too.

Thank god, I'd heard it was around 3 hours if you play fast (I'll probably draw it out to 5 hours at least though since I like to look at the scenery). It's very nice looking and soothing and the music is great. I don't think 3 hours of lostwinds is going to be enough for me.

        With that said, my DVD player is an Xbox 360.
      • knetworx, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2As much as I hate to say it, apparently they *do* know what the people want, considering they've sold far more consoles than Sony and Microsoft. Sony and Microsoft know what gamers want, Nintendo knows what "the people" want. (Note: "the people" includes nursing homes.) I'm not knocking any of the consoles, I have both a 360 and a Wii, and they're both great in their own ways (for instance, my wife will play Wii games with me, not so much on the 360), but no matter what you say about Nintendo, they have good business sense at the very least.

I can say that its really more geared towards my girlfriend or to less experienced gamers than me for example. To most "hardcore" gamers that have a Wii, its probably not their only gaming platform.. I would think most have either a PS3 or 360 or a PC to play most games. And if not, I'm sure they at least WANT one of the other available platforms for their games.

  • Schmapdi, on 05/13/2008, -2/+10I think the FF kingdom building game looks kinda neat myself, and tower defense clones are always entertaining, but if it follows VC pricing - they'll be just too damn expensive for what are basically trumped up Java games (even if they are fun or interesting ones).

    And Nintendo is being surprisingly stingy with Wii points - I should be getting like 50 free points every time I register a game, 10 points for filling out a survey, etc etc.

Someone already demonstrated they're just roms. So stop releasing them at this SNAILS pace. There are thousands of games for all the systems added to to the VC at this point. So this slow trickle of 1-3 every week but then some guy had a birthday so lets not release any this week mentality is annoying.
    • Coffeedemon, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3All they are is cross-promotion at this point. The initial rush to release many titles is over since they've got a good audience hooked. Now its time to release the old games a couple of weeks prior to a "franchise refresh" (IE: when they dig up yet another 20 year old game and remake it) to get the brand in your mind and hope that memories and nostalgia will get you to buy the new one.

  • dansmeek, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6okay.... nintendo needs to allow us to play games from SD cards. i'm not going to pirate games and they already have that feature that ensures the game can only be played from the console it was purchased from. i grossly over-payed for games like super mario brothers 1 and 3 (given the lack of new features, and the poorly emulated version of mario 3... they should offer these in bundles for $5), and the $10 price for ALL N64 games is disgusting...
    this wiiware is done right, and i really like the wind game. but it's a constant juggling act to have to delete certain game just to make room for another.... AND i jsut got a wii. AND there's not even many games available yet.
    allowing 2 gigs of space to be used would be sufficient for now. < 500 megs is ridiculous.
    also, can someone explain to me why it takes so long to copy a game from the nintento storage to an SD card? it litterally is faster to just redownload a bigger game. On my PS3 copying things from the SD slot is instantaenous. And I imagine it's the same way for those who choose to use the zelda exploit.
    People get on Sony's ass for not yet having an XMB. Nintendo needs to start making things better for those who choose to use the Wii as a gaming system and not just a Wii Sports System.

  • mliving, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4I have downloaded LostWinds and Pop and both are really fun and different games.
    LostWinds "wind" mechanic is very cool and the art direction and worlds are absolutely beautiful. highly recommend use for $10.
    Pop is a HIGHLY ADDICTIVE bubble popping game well worth the measly $7 they're charging. It has fast and I mean fast paced action and up to four player support including WiFi connectivity.
    To anyone who continues to claim that third party and now Indy games suck on the Wii... look no further then your WiiWare console. You WILL NOT be disappointed!
    I have absolutely no problem spending $7-$10 supporting Indy and small developers if they're going to pump out original and fresh games like the first batch of WiiWare games. Sure beats playing those shined up retro games that seem to be filling Xbox Arcade to overflowing.
