No Wii-kly Update This Week — Enter WiiWare
news.filefront.com — As promised, WiiWare has finally launched today. Wii owners can now head to the Wii Shop Channel and start downloading any of the six previously announced launch titles. With the launch of WiiWare, there won ’t be any releases on the Virtual Console today, but the normal Wii-kly Update schedule will resume next week.

- spwpi10, on 05/13/2008, -0/+26Anyone download and play the Final Fantasy game yet? I want to read a review and see how it is, and what DLC is worth it, if any.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/13/2008, -19/+5Download it off a torrent site. You don't need a hacked Wii to rip off VC and Wii Ware titles, just the a copy of Twilight Princess.
- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -0/+32It is OK to pay for video games you know.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/13/2008, -10/+5I paid for a lot of those NES, SNES, and N64 games already. Nintendo doesn't need any more money, they have plenty of it.
God damn it, I accidently digged you up, instead of pressing submit comment.- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Go ahead and pirate them if you wish, but you are never entitled to illegally downloaded software. Also if you really did buy them ten-fifteen years ago then why bother pirating them anyways since you already own legit copies?
- KingGoonie, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Also last I checked wiiware games are originals.... so you are stealing original properties. Way to block progress.
- ParaSwarm, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I dugg you down, but it wasn't an accident. It was because you're the turd that makes developers stop producing games.

- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -0/+32It is OK to pay for video games you know.
- ghall, on 05/13/2008, -11/+3I think it's a Crystal Chronicles sequel. That game didn't deserve the name Final Fantasy.
- KingGoonie, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4Neither did Final Fantasy VII, but they gave it to that game...
Crystal Chronicles while not a great game, is good, and is better then FFVII- Fraff5, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4Are you kidding me? VII is amazing. Sure, not as good as VI, but still great.
- ParaSwarm, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2I love people who try to act original and non-conformist by proudly declaring they didn't like FFVII every chance they get. You are a rebel without a cause, no doubt about it.
- KingGoonie, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4Neither did Final Fantasy VII, but they gave it to that game...

- crossmr, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3I played it for 3 hours. had a lot of trouble stopping
its great.

- gfindlay, on 05/13/2008, -0/+16I'd like to see some reviews of all of them. I had never seen anything about that WIND game before, but it looks kind of cool.
- KingGoonie, on 05/13/2008, -1/+6Matt Cassamasena (however you spell it) over at IGN.com has been talking about Lost Winds for a while now on the nintendo podcasts... He must have mentioned it in at least 3 or 4 podcasts going back to before the Japanese release of it even... he loves the game. The others do too.
- sdacvzxvzsfa, on 05/13/2008, -7/+3Eh, I hate that guy. Not because I personally know him, but for entirely superficial reasons.
- thepotatoman, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4I hate him too. He complains about his job in multiple podcasts, constantly flouts the fact that he knows about games you aren't allowed to know about yet, brags about playing high profile games that haven't come out yet, Halo DS, "It's Fact that Zelda is better then Okami", and he hasn't really done anything exceptionally good to counter act those negatives.

- Jakotsutou, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8It's Kirby's Canvas Curse, but more awesome. It's definitely worth the $10. Be warned though, it's an episodic series.
- iofthestorm, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Episodic? Thank god, I'd heard it was around 3 hours if you play fast (I'll probably draw it out to 5 hours at least though since I like to look at the scenery). It's very nice looking and soothing and the music is great. I don't think 3 hours of lostwinds is going to be enough for me.
- AmazingAndrex, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3http://wii.ign.com/articles/873/873402p1.html
- TheGreger, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7I really like Lost Winds. I recommend it.

- rdoger6424, on 05/13/2008, -0/+20be wiisonable!
- Gregsaw, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9people don't want a hard drive, just like people don't want to play online. that's what nintendo told me at least, and they must know what the people want, right?
- Ravatar, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4we also want more mario.
- Archaic1, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2yeah, 500 games isn't enough
- Matt174e, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Personally, i'm the type of person who doens't want to play DVD movies on my Wii. As nintendo says, eveyone already has a DVD player... so why put one in a gaming console?
With that said, my DVD player is an Xbox 360. - knetworx, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2As much as I hate to say it, apparently they *do* know what the people want, considering they've sold far more consoles than Sony and Microsoft. Sony and Microsoft know what gamers want, Nintendo knows what "the people" want. (Note: "the people" includes nursing homes.) I'm not knocking any of the consoles, I have both a 360 and a Wii, and they're both great in their own ways (for instance, my wife will play Wii games with me, not so much on the 360), but no matter what you say about Nintendo, they have good business sense at the very least.
- BearinG, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1They know what mainstream wants for sure... I have a Wii myself (and 360) and although I enjoy some games.. I can say that its really more geared towards my girlfriend or to less experienced gamers than me for example. To most "hardcore" gamers that have a Wii, its probably not their only gaming platform.. I would think most have either a PS3 or 360 or a PC to play most games. And if not, I'm sure they at least WANT one of the other available platforms for their games.
- Ravatar, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4we also want more mario.
- kravex, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Just get the Nintendo channel and open it up to them to let them see that your running out of memory.
- ronaldst, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1How about a damn DVI/HDMI port so I can hook it up to my PC monitor.
- ashish926, on 05/13/2008, -15/+7How about some free games..?

- mywhitenoise, on 05/13/2008, -9/+4Twilight hack.
- mrinsanity, on 05/13/2008, -8/+3GOOD ARTICLE! I was wondering about when this would happening
- DinosWillDie13, on 05/13/2008, -0/+19This could be potentially awesome. If they do it right.
Will people be able to recommend these games on that new nintendo channel on the wii? Cause I know I won't be spending much money on a virtual console game until I know it is worth it.- bduddy, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Probably, considering you can reccomend (or not) all the other channels, including News and Weather...
- olafcore, on 05/13/2008, -0/+42Let's just hope it includes EarthBound next week to make up for it. ;)
- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -3/+6I'm waiting for the Pokemon Ranch so I can upload my army of Bidoofs.
- andrewober, on 05/13/2008, -10/+2I'm wondering how long it will be before Wiiware get hacked. Not too terribly long ago, VC was hacked.
- boxybrzown, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7It already has been hacked. You could download and play the japanese wiiware games last week.
- acevoncash, on 05/13/2008, -1/+19gimme a hard drive nintendo, im almsot full up!
- johnhummel, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5I do agree with that one - I had to delete a N64 game to make room for other stuff, and I dread trying to fit on Final Fantasy Chrystal Chroncles God Damned Too Long of a Name and trying to figure out if I have room.
- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5You could get a standard SD card.
- pakruse, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2That fills up quickly too, though. What sucks is that they didn't anticipate the need for storage, and so SDHC isn't supported.
- Gir53457, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5You could get a standard SD card.
- ParaSwarm, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Seriously. There's USB ports on the damn thing. Give us a hard drive.

- Schmapdi, on 05/13/2008, -2/+10I think the FF kingdom building game looks kinda neat myself, and tower defense clones are always entertaining, but if it follows VC pricing - they'll be just too damn expensive for what are basically trumped up Java games (even if they are fun or interesting ones).
And Nintendo is being surprisingly stingy with Wii points - I should be getting like 50 free points every time I register a game, 10 points for filling out a survey, etc etc.- crossmr, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3no java game is going to trump FF Kingdom..

- damnclem, on 05/13/2008, -3/+1Seriously, you did wii everything through out the entire description and didn't go for wii-k at the end? Buried as lame. ;)
- razend, on 05/13/2008, -4/+3wiikey updates by nitendo?
- VGLegends, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8Lost Winds is amazing. There is no need for a VC update today.
- Ignitedude, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Admittedly I wasn't too interested in the line-up till I saw this in action today. It looks like a ridiculous amount of fun.
- crossmr, on 05/13/2008, -3/+2This is just another excuse for them to delay adding more VC games...too many favourites still missing. Sorry, but they really have to pick up the pace on those. Someone already demonstrated they're just roms. So stop releasing them at this SNAILS pace. There are thousands of games for all the systems added to to the VC at this point. So this slow trickle of 1-3 every week but then some guy had a birthday so lets not release any this week mentality is annoying.
- Coffeedemon, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3All they are is cross-promotion at this point. The initial rush to release many titles is over since they've got a good audience hooked. Now its time to release the old games a couple of weeks prior to a "franchise refresh" (IE: when they dig up yet another 20 year old game and remake it) to get the brand in your mind and hope that memories and nostalgia will get you to buy the new one.
- crossmr, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1There are still far too many to be missing to tie in to franchise refreshes unless they're planning on refreshing just about everything.
For several different systems
that's pretty ambitious for one console.

- devoted, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2its about time...
- jonisjalopy, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Defend Your Castle is too entertaining for words. I can't wait for the other titles to launch. Though, I could have sworn the Strongbad game as well as World of Goo was supposed to be out at launch. Did I miss something?
- krd1979, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1World of Goo and Dr. Mario should be out next week, Strongbad will have the first episode out in June (followed my additional episodes every few months). (source is www.infendo.com podcast 103).
- dansmeek, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6okay.... nintendo needs to allow us to play games from SD cards. i'm not going to pirate games and they already have that feature that ensures the game can only be played from the console it was purchased from. i grossly over-payed for games like super mario brothers 1 and 3 (given the lack of new features, and the poorly emulated version of mario 3... they should offer these in bundles for $5), and the $10 price for ALL N64 games is disgusting...
this wiiware is done right, and i really like the wind game. but it's a constant juggling act to have to delete certain game just to make room for another.... AND i jsut got a wii. AND there's not even many games available yet.
allowing 2 gigs of space to be used would be sufficient for now. < 500 megs is ridiculous.
also, can someone explain to me why it takes so long to copy a game from the nintento storage to an SD card? it litterally is faster to just redownload a bigger game. On my PS3 copying things from the SD slot is instantaenous. And I imagine it's the same way for those who choose to use the zelda exploit.
People get on Sony's ass for not yet having an XMB. Nintendo needs to start making things better for those who choose to use the Wii as a gaming system and not just a Wii Sports System. - o0joshua0o, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6If they chose to do so, Nintendo could easily rectify the storage space problem. All they have to do is release an update that allows you to plug an external hard drive into the USB port on the Wii.
- mliving, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4I have downloaded LostWinds and Pop and both are really fun and different games.
LostWinds "wind" mechanic is very cool and the art direction and worlds are absolutely beautiful. highly recommend use for $10.
Pop is a HIGHLY ADDICTIVE bubble popping game well worth the measly $7 they're charging. It has fast and I mean fast paced action and up to four player support including WiFi connectivity.
To anyone who continues to claim that third party and now Indy games suck on the Wii... look no further then your WiiWare console. You WILL NOT be disappointed!
I have absolutely no problem spending $7-$10 supporting Indy and small developers if they're going to pump out original and fresh games like the first batch of WiiWare games. Sure beats playing those shined up retro games that seem to be filling Xbox Arcade to overflowing.
