- Nathrat, on 10/02/2008, -1/+5I can't believe they didn't make a little wii external hard drive.
- orlandoxxl, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5A proprietary SD card? 2GB? LAME. What about USB storage? I would even settle for SDHC support. I agree with Subcontinental. An external storage solution should have been there in the beginning, just like Wii motion plus. I don't want to spend extra money to get something that should have been built-in.
- malechite, on 10/02/2008, -1/+4You already can... its a .wad installer using the twilight hack. you dont even need a modded wii.
Unless you mean the proprietary SD technology. - doshindude, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3this is no solution whatsoever. proprietary SD cards? that's *****! I'm not buying MORE of these things when I already have 5 of them, and you're telling me I can't use them now???? The ONLY realistic solution is to make a hard drive. Rock Band 2 and GHWT will have MASSIVE amounts of DLC for the Wii, and an SD card will not cut it after about 10 downloads. Nintendo needs to stop dancing around this issue.
- Dreamscar, on 10/03/2008, -3/+5plz no caps, you aren't 8 years old
- chaosblade77, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3My point exactly. People seem to be forgetting just how small the stuff they are downloading is. Supposedly there is a 40MB limit for Wiiware games, and while N64 games could be as large as 64MB, most were closer to 20.
As I mentioned on another article, 2.5GB of freely accessible space is a more than enough for anyone except the most avid downloaders (like, reviewers). Even then, the price of a second SD card on top of your current one will cost less than a hard drive solution anyway.
SDHC card reader would have been a better idea from the start, but they didn't do that so it's not an option. - Magee1205, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1I thought rockband for the wii sells expansion discs that come with songs. I could be wrong, I don't own Rockband for the wii. Just curious why you would need a HD for downloaded songs when you get a disc?
- dansmeek, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1how about a solution wherein nintendo updates the firmware... alllows the SD cards (the normal ones, like the one I have in my system) to be executable. Release the firmware tomorrow. And BAM! We have it working!
This is only going to cause more problems in the future. A damn executable SD card (proprietary). Who do they think they are. Sony? - btgoss, on 10/02/2008, -2/+2Yeah this is not a great solution.
It is A solution, but a pretty lame one.
Oh well... maybe this will allow another company to create something worthwhile. - skywake, on 10/03/2008, -3/+3since when is SD proprietary? And how will this cost you extra money? (short of say $30AU for a 2GB SD card)
Ok, let me get this straight. Nintendo just announced a new DS, a bunch of new games including Punchout and Sin & Punishment 2, some Gamecube remakes at bargain prices, and not only a step forward in terms of a storage solution but also a channel for Wii Speak..... yet people are still bitter about only "getting" Wii Motion Plus at E3? What do they have to do to keep you guys happy? - captainsky, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1Black Friday and Cyber Monday baby - last year I scored so many SD cards for less than $5 & the best thing was that there was no rush for those items.
- Subcontinental, on 10/02/2008, -3/+2I can't believe it took this long for a "solution." Now we have to go out and buy more crap for the Wii...more money for something that should have been there from the beginning.
- evilmregg, on 10/02/2008, -2/+1How many minutes after this is released before it's hacked and you can download the software from mod sites to use with your own SD card?
- Dreamscar, on 10/03/2008, -4/+3Please people, quit your bitching. The Average VC game is incredibly small, you could probably store upwards of 100 games on a 1GB card that nintendo would sell. I would much rather pay $20 for a card than $100+ for a harddrive that I would never fill. Lets remember here, the Wii doesn't have downloadable content 'OR' HD graphics to deal with, so all files for it are incredibly small. It would take a crapload of save files and VC and WiiWare games to fill up a card. So, thank you Nintendo. Thank you for making a solution that is substantially cheaper than a harddrive. Thank you for thinking of gamers wallets. It was incredibly thoughtful of you
- Froderick, on 10/03/2008, -2/+1Perhaps a firmware update will allow save-files to be saved to it, and read directly from it during gameplay?
- ELCad, on 10/03/2008, -2/+1SD cards are pretty cheap, and you don'rt even have to buy it from Nintendo. I just got a couple 2GB Sandisk cards this week for $7 each.
- LANAsiDOOG, on 10/02/2008, -2/+0So what makes the "executable" SD card different from a normal SD card? Would it require a firmware update to work with it?
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -8/+5TWO ***** WORDS NINTENDO
HARD DRIVE.
IS IT SO ***** IMPOSSIBLE TO CONFORM TO THE NORM! FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS ON THE CROSS BEING TORN APART BY RAPTORS!!!
