- silver26, on 07/14/2008, -14/+359Sweet! what the wii remote was meant to be in the FIRST PLACE
- DreKor, on 07/14/2008, -7/+287I hope they start integrating this into future iterations of the Wii Remote. If they don't, it seems like they're just money whoring with attachments that provide basic functionality.
- DanteDefiance, on 07/14/2008, -5/+273LucasArts. Lightsaber game. Now.
- Cdog923, on 07/14/2008, -4/+181Hopefully this leads to true 1:1 controls. Imagine how awesome Star Wars: TFU and the new Zelda game would be if this makes it so.
- modsuperstar, on 07/14/2008, -4/+159I don't get the "should have been included originally" argument. It's been 2 years since the Wii started to be manufactured. Obviously this was a technological advancement that was either too costly or needed further development. Saying it should have been there originally is like saying the latest Intel processor should have been that fast 2 years ago. It doesn't make any sense. Products need time to research and develop and obviously it wasn't ready to go out the door 2 years ago or else it would have already been included.
- fishbeef33, on 07/14/2008, -24/+150Wonderful. Send me two of them for FREE for the wiimotes I already have and I'll be very happy. Otherwise it's like an afterthought that Nintendo's making you pay for. "We didn't realize that the wiimote motion control wouldn't be spot on, so now you can fix it for only $19.95!"
Either that, or charge us but have it come with a game. Something better than Wii Play, please. - KingGoonie, on 07/14/2008, -14/+122Gotta love the timing of it.... right before Microsofts press conference.
"And now we have a motion sensor controller AND it does this..."
"Um... so?"
"What do you mean so... look!"
"Yea... um... perhaps you haven't heard the news this morning.. must suck copying something and officially announcing it 2 hours after the company you copied the idea from just came announced an even better one. Maybe next E3 you can announce an add on to the motion capture controller"
Im a 360 fan actually, but as far as their supposed motion controller announcement goes, which was stupid to begin wtih (along with the Mii copying Avatar) them talking about it after this is probably going to seem a bit silly. - shaunj66, on 07/14/2008, -3/+79Hopefully Wii Sports 2 (if they even make it) will take real advantage of this
- jonshipman, on 07/14/2008, -1/+73Can we trade in the N64 Expansion Pack for one?
- tdishman, on 07/14/2008, -1/+72I would love to see a lightsaber game where you can accidentally dismember yourself.
- JayD16, on 07/14/2008, -6/+67Notice how it says 1:1 response not 1:1 movement. There still no way for the developer to know where the wiimote is relative to your body. You're not going to see a starwars game with 1:1 controls unless you're wearing a motion capture suit.
...and even then whats the point? You don't have amazing agility so you certainly won't look like a jedi in the game. - TheDooku, on 07/14/2008, -5/+64This better be free or come with some specific new game. If Nintendo thinks the WiiMote needs better sensitivity they should be covering the cost.
- isunktheship, on 07/14/2008, -0/+59Haven't you ever heard of the rumble pack?
- Takfam, on 07/14/2008, -5/+63I love the people complaining "ZOMG THIS SHUD HAV BIN IN TEH WIIMOTE FRUM LAUNCH! WTF?"
Do you honestly believe that Nintendo gimped their motion control just to sell this add-on almost 2 years later? I do believe it was shortsighted of them to not perceive the demand for a 1:1 response motion control, but there is nothing insidious here. - khuongsta, on 07/14/2008, -10/+66too many wii accessories / controllers.
- silver26, on 07/14/2008, -11/+64This is effectively Nintendo's way of kicking MS in the groin. Rumors suggest Microsoft may show some sort of motion controller for Banjo Kazooie... no one will care now.
- Andrwmorph, on 07/14/2008, -0/+49How does one "hit a jump?"
- runep, on 07/14/2008, -0/+48In the bleak future under the rule of Nintendo, we will all be the Star Wars kid.
- mretx, on 07/14/2008, -3/+49atleast this peripheral has more potential than the ones announced last year (wheel and the stupid zapper).
hope it gets better tomorrow. - inactive, on 07/14/2008, -2/+44If you look at the back, it looks like there's a slot cover on there - you might still be able to plug in the nunchuck. Of course, this is just rampant speculation, but that's what it looks like to me.
- 1oneWON, on 07/14/2008, -2/+44Interesting, and even more so that they opted to show this off prior to their press conference tomorrow. Was this a move to take attention away from the MS Press Conference? If so, may have been a smart strategic move.
- modsuperstar, on 07/14/2008, -15/+54I love that Microsoft is about to announce a copycat of the Wii-Mote only to have Nintendo show they're still one step ahead. Microsoft, always a day late and a buck short.
- whalefarmerjohn, on 07/14/2008, -1/+39Then buy a "classic controller"?
- xxcheesexpuffxx, on 07/14/2008, -0/+34it's not, it's definately just the one on the right plugged in and then placed in a larger wiimote rubber jacket.
- silver26, on 07/14/2008, -1/+35haha... yeah.
- DanteDefiance, on 07/14/2008, -1/+33The two they currently have in production do not use 1:1 motion controls.
I want a damn 1:1 lightsaber game! I don't care if I look like a untrained monkey. It will be the closest I ever get to actually swinging a lightsaber. - sint4x, on 07/14/2008, -0/+32@Rocketman1882
That is what Wii Fit is for. - freetyme, on 07/14/2008, -3/+35I want it free.
That way devs know everyone has it who wants one and can develop for it.
I don't even know what it does. Can't wait to see it in action.
Is it just me or does it seem very unusual for a company to upgrade the capabilities of their controller with an add on in this way. I mean yes the N64 had a rumble pak but this seems to effect gameplay much more directly. So I think if they don't want it to end up being like th broadband adapter for the Gamecube they need to make it as accessible as possible. Of course Nintendo has been pretty good with not making a million SKUs and every Wii is the same so maybe they will make this available and awesome.
Show me Zelda that I can hold the sword in either hand. Even throw my sword from hand to hand! That would be awesome. - homescrubb, on 07/14/2008, -0/+31wii play tank game was the *****.
- Sommerlost, on 07/14/2008, -11/+41aka "the band-aid"
- Pic0, on 07/14/2008, -0/+30Will older games benefit from this and have better response?
- honeymustardn, on 07/14/2008, -1/+30Or the fact that most people who go on Kotaku story see the huge Digg button, rather than trawling through pages of spam to find your little story.
- mcnearcj, on 07/14/2008, -5/+34The money I saved from buying a wii over a ps3 has all been spent on accessories =/
- nymphetamine, on 07/14/2008, -2/+29Direct link: http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6v ...
Yea, I think you need to find out what 'direct link' means. That's why you gut buried. - m00nstone, on 07/14/2008, -4/+30Watch my batteries drain even faster.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/14/2008, -0/+25What I'm wondering is how its compatibility will work. Will it only be of use in new games, or will it improve the control of older games?
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -1/+26I love how anyone who says ANYTHING in a gaming comment thread has to state their comments, whatever they may be... and ALSO state WHAT systems they run, AND defend their position in a polite manner
holy ***** paranoia
/I play Atari. ***** y'all ;) - KingGoonie, on 07/14/2008, -3/+27Oh they would make it. I wouldnt be surprised if it came with the accessory.
- darkzealot89, on 07/14/2008, -0/+24I ***** hate it when blogs write that in their posts.
- bjs3171, on 07/14/2008, -3/+25i thought the remote was already supposed to do this. that's why everyone's been demanding a light sabre game. because we thought that's what the remote already did.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -0/+21Back when we were kids, my friends and I would go out bike riding, and we hit jumps all the time. I seriously have no idea how that relates to blogging, though.
- Elranzer, on 07/14/2008, -0/+20I don't think anyone would have cared to begin with.
- Pobotrol, on 07/14/2008, -2/+22I can see an extension socket at the bottom, I can.
With my eyes. - isunktheship, on 07/14/2008, -4/+24Hehe, yeah the Wii is awesome... PS3 has their awful attempt to incorporate motion sensory as well. Granted everyone will have to have it in the future in order to stay competitive, but the timing is hilarious.
- Sommerlost, on 07/14/2008, -3/+22This thing is gonna be $19.99 at best.
- Shaflugi, on 07/14/2008, -1/+20What they SHOULD be doing is giving this peripheral away for free like they did with the condoms and wrist straps. It would ensure that developers actually take advantage of it. Plus, the Wiimote should've been this accurate to begin with.
- Rocketman1882, on 07/14/2008, -2/+20I could see Nintendo coming out with a Belt or something with enough sensors to triangulate the remote to the body. Problem is making a belt that fits almost everyone.
- evanfp, on 07/14/2008, -3/+20way to be a buzz kill man. are you that guy who drinks milk at a party? are you the ass that tells his 4 year old child there is no santa clause? shame.
- KingGoonie, on 07/14/2008, -3/+19Besides the 2 they are already doing lol.
- DreKor, on 07/14/2008, -1/+17So, Awesome is still Awesome? Good to know.
