The HD is rumored to be announced at The-piece-of-*****-formerly-known-as-E3. - noseeme, on 10/11/2007, -10/+75My spoon is too big.
- timpkmn89, on 10/11/2007, -3/+57E3 is in mid-July...
- Thumper13, on 10/11/2007, -11/+65I am a banana.
- Diggtatorship, on 10/11/2007, -3/+56Personally I'd like to see SD storage opened up as well as support for all types of USB attached storage, but I'd also like my own leprechaun and a golden unicorn.
- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39Yeah, the HDD isn't going to fix it. Nintendo needs to implement some basic folders. For example, why can't I click on the NES Channel, at which point I can browse my NES games? The idea of channels is neat but when you pick up a bunch of virtual console games, you ended up with a big mess.
There are a lot of things about the interface I wish I could customise, actually. Another really cool-but-quickly-annoying-thing is how it switches between the logo for the system and the logo game. When you've got a lot of games, all you see is a confusing mess of logos, instead of a convenient list of games.
The HDD will definitely help on the space issue but I'd really like to see a better customisable UI. - timpkmn89, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37It hasn't actually been announced yet, so we don't know
- doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -37/+72the Wii's external HDD was announced, so that'll fix your woes.
- gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -2/+36Personally I think being able to use the SD card slot of memory would be easier than a hard-drive, but w/e...
- dclowd9901, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33It should also be noted that the emulators that come with the games are not redundant, and, instead are written specifically for the ROM. The problem with general emulators is they do not usually work 100% well with 100% of the game library. The best alternative is to write a specific emulator for the specific ROMs.
- Step1Mark, on 10/11/2007, -5/+35sorry about that i meant month not week
- mannymix03, on 10/11/2007, -10/+39sometimes you just have to drain your wii
- nmckinlay, on 10/11/2007, -14/+40No, you dyslexic *****.
:) - cambob76, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32Your Wii can't be 'TOO' full. It is either full or it isn't.
- Rikkochet, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29"If I wanted to buy more game I will have to delete some on the Wii to make some space and then either copy the data back from the SD memory card or re-download it from the store."
So.... Do that then?
Is it really considered a huge failing of a device that you can't purchase every single, solitary addon available and cram it all onto the device at once?
Can you imagine the tech support call to Gateway from some dick saying he just bought 900 different application suites and his computer is saying it's "out of room"?
Your wii is like your computer is like your ***** house. When it's full of ***** you aren't using, take some ***** out of it. - afx1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Correction to to article...SNK/NeoGeo games were hundreds of megabits, not megabytes (8 megabits = 1 megabyte). His 512 SD and 1 GB Wii memory are measured in megabytes.
- jthebrain5, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21"heh. Massive NeoGeo games. Never thought I'd hear that. I hope they're good."
Yea, we have to wait to play them on the Wii, because I don't think more than 100 people played them on the NeoGeo. - skywake, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21put simply.... yes
- Veurruckte, on 10/11/2007, -8/+25@psykiv:
I haven't turned my Wii on in at least a month. The console itself isn't the problem, it's the games that have been released lately. Games like Super Paper Mario just don't appeal to me.
Thankfully, Resident Evil 4 and Manhunt should change that. - psykiv, on 10/11/2007, -46/+63To be honest, I haven't even touched my Wii in like 2 months.
Go ahead, digg me down. - foofightrs777, on 10/11/2007, -9/+26Silly hats only.
- danielsan1701, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20You can re-download Virtual Console games. Just delete your least often used, and get them later when you feel like playing them again.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Still, would that fix the lack of remaining channels? I think the Wii really needs a hierarchical file system of some kind for the games, or users like this will go nuts trying to find stuff.
Although I know they won't do it, it would be nice to be able to rip games to the HDD. I hate having to whip out the wii sports disc every time someone wants to play a match of tennis. - cambob76, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20No. Your ice cube is too big and your cup is not full.
- Tikkimann, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15"They will probably work something out by the time that the massive NeoGeo games hit the Virtual Console"
heh. Massive NeoGeo games. Never thought I'd hear that. I hope they're good. - CReyes4182, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17Good point and their like $20-30. Wii HD is probably going to be around $100 depending on the size.
- Step1Mark, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16my hopes are you can use any external enclosure but Nintendo will offer their own
- justice7, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18"My wii is too full"
Get a girlfriend. - reed311, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17What does that have to do with the story?

Shazam. Took 10 seconds to find. - nyrol2, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Clearly not the case with PS3. You don't even get close to what you pay for.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13@psykiv
Same here TBH. The novelty has kind of worn off, and no games have came out recently that peaked my interest. The most played games I own are Wii Sports and Wario Ware (2 player darts). Every now and then I'll turn it on when it's late and me and friends have just gotten back from the bar. Which brings me to another point, the Wii needs more fun multi player games.
Lately I've just been playing GH2 on the 360, I seem to never get bored of it, to the point where my hands hurt from playing. :) - IdanE, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Talk about off topic! people are talking about storage space and you're talking about RAM? WTF does that have top do with it?
]
How about being on topic? - KibibyteBrain, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I wouldn't even mind if you had to use Nintendo's enclosure, but could still BYOD. I hate paying way more than market price for storage that is already obsolete.
- digid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9mystical sd cards unveiled:
http://www.pricewatch.com/flash_card_memory/sd_2gb.htm - charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13So how much is the Wii HD?
- kinghajj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7As far as I know, you can't download XBLA games to a flash drive. Only music can be accessed.
- KingBabi, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10No...the intelligent comment fanboys dugg you down because it wasn't an intelligent comment.
- ydt89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Ya know if this whole Wii HDD thing is worth it, the wii is really going to need a decent media player to play Mp3s :D Music channel anyone?
- xcbxcb, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12Isn't memory kinda like a cup?
My cup can be too full to put an ice cube into it but still not full. - Peynis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8how did this make it to the front page?
the article contains no information that was previously unknown...
my tip for anyone who needs more storage on the Wii: stop spending hundreds of bucks on overprized ROM downloads (especially if you already own the games) and buy the original cartridges...you can get most games at eBay shipped for _less_ than the VC price...and if you don't own the console, you can get it for like 10 bucks at eBay, too (except for maybe the TurboGrafx), and still save money...
what if your Wii breaks (no "ouch" jokes please :P )? what if you won't be able to transfer your VC games to the next Nintendo console?
your VC games will be worthless then (if VC games ARE of any value at all, since you can't re-sell them)
and last but not least: for me, half of the fun of retrogaming comes from finding and collecting the cartridges (and boxes) and setting up my old consoles to be able to play them...dusting off your 15-year-old consoles you have spent so much time with in your childhood gives you a feeling that is unmatched by any emulator - extols, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@Insert31990
That is all very well, but the issue here is that you can't play VC games straight from the SD card; you must copy the game onto the Wii before it can be played. - carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6i'd still like to see them put the gameboy/gameboy advance games on the VC. that way i can play me some pokemon red again in all it's 8bit glory!
- grumbel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The failing is that you can't run stuff from SD Card, so if your device is full, you reached a dead end right now, since you can't expand it, you have to delete and move things around manually instead. Especially considering that 2GB SD Cards are ridiculously cheap that can be quite an annoyance.
However, there is of course hope that Nintendo will just fix it with a simple firmware upgrade once it becomes an issue for to many people. - Mrstupid7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8All consoles are toys. Toys are things used for entertainment.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Poor baby.
Next. - CompIsMyRx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Nintendo could easily roll out an update to run games straight off of the card. And they should do it.
- KingBabi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I think this guy's most pressing problem is that he can't use punctuation correctly. So...many..run-ons..
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@bpapa
? - knetworx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I have a Wii and an XBOX 360, and I make games for the 360, but still I say the Wii is an amazing console. No streaming music? Who cares. Everything in the world streams music these days, even a cell phone. Who needs another music player? If you care that much about it, get an iPod, it's smaller. Yes, the Wii is a less powerful system, but honestly, Nintendo was smart, they focused less on power and graphics, and more on the fun factor. Sure, you're Wii may be full, but only because you're having so much fun with it that you keep downloading VC games, which happens to make even more money for Nintendo (again, smart move on their part.) And yes, it sucks that you have to buy a Nintendo hard drive to get more storage, and yes, it will probably be expensive, but do you honestly think nobody's going to find a way to hack/mod it to allow use of any hard drive? Heck, it might not even need to be modified. They used regular SD cards, but just slapped a logo on it and sold it for twice the price. The fact of the matter is, the Wii is kicking Sony and Microsoft's asses in sales right now, and it's still hard to find one these days, so it seems to me Nintendo is doing everything right. Shortly after the PS3 came out, there were stacks of them at every store, because $600 is way too much for pretty graphics.
