- blindbutballsy, on 04/12/2008, -3/+79Who the hell is Rain? What kind of gay ass name is that? This thing must already be rigged....
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -3/+69Why are Madonna, Britney Spears and Hilary Clinton in the top 10?
- freedomwv, on 04/12/2008, -9/+69The guy really did chance the face of youth culture forever. He already deserves to be in the top five.
- Diggtatorship, on 04/12/2008, -5/+48Shigeru Miyamoto basically raised me. Everyone else pales in comparison.
- schavira, on 04/12/2008, -1/+39Stephen Colbert or Miyamoto could kick Rain's ass any day of the week.
- skywake, on 04/12/2008, -2/+31What makes you any less of a fanboy then those who love what Nintendo is doing and has done? Together Miyamoto and Iwata are responsible for a lot more then you give them credit for. It might have been the early 1980's when Miyamoto came up with "Jumpman" but its a bit of a stretch to say that there has been no innovation between original Donkey Kong and Super Mario Galaxy. Sure he is sticking with Mario because it is still a profitable brand but I wouldn't call them the same games.
Look at that PS3/360 controller in your hands, where did the button layout come from? who came up with the shoulder buttons? what about the analogue sticks? rumble? You claim that Nintendo is for the "pre-teen" crowd but what about the non-gaming crowd? I know personally that when Halo just came out me and my friends used to play it for hours on end but it was always just me and my friends. When I threw in the Super Mario Galaxy disk EVERYONE wanted to play 8-86. I know the same is the case on some level with Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Wii Sports and Wii Fit and Zelda.... its a universal truth. Is that not innovation? Is that not progressive enough for you? - goldenhearted, on 04/12/2008, -5/+33Shigeru Miyamoto's Super Mario Bros. is the reason why I'm right here, playing video games. The medium has become a part of me that I owe him for bringing me in to the video gaming world that brought me nearly two decades of entertaining experiences like Mario, Zelda, MGS, Final Fantasy, Duck Hunt, Commander Keen, Starcraft, BioShock, GTA, Pokemon, Portal, Halo, Doom, Half-Life, KOTOR, Diablo, and other games I've enjoyed through the years.
With that said, Miyamoto deserves it. His influence in the industry is undeniably grand and his acclaim should sustain for as long as it can for new generations of gamers to learn that they wouldn't be playing their favorites games if it wasn't for the NES and Super Mario Bros. - therockymonk, on 04/12/2008, -1/+28when britney spears(6) is more infulential than lance armstrong at 57 then this poll means nothing.
- Lobstertacular, on 04/12/2008, -2/+23Rain is one of the biggest celebrities in Asia. He's kind of like Ricky Martin, but, you know, Asian.

Just in case you were really interested in knowing the answer - Stowz, on 04/12/2008, -1/+21They sold their soul to Ganondorf.
- Hervard, on 04/12/2008, -1/+20Vote for Miyamoto here: http://tinyurl.com/5rpw34
View the current rankings here: http://tinyurl.com/3h5hpt - AwesomeMonster, on 04/12/2008, -1/+163d gaming had already been on the snes with the superfx chip. Also, any adult mature enough to see past blood and gore knows that the nintendo first party library is the most strong line up out of any company. Who cares if they have the same characters if they are consistently FUN. Lastly, all because Mario doesn't chainsaw people in half doesn't mean you can't play the game an enjoy it. In fact, any adult should be able to see that half of the M games out there are only so violent so they appeal to the pre-teen crowd.

- whatthefu, on 04/12/2008, -3/+17Time 100 means *****, and I don't need their acknowledgment to decide who is and isn't a very influential person.
- tbob19, on 04/12/2008, -0/+14Still can't find that Wii, eh?
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -3/+17He's right in between LOLcats and chuck norris jokes.
- BlueSkyfish, on 04/12/2008, -1/+14http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_game ...
- diggdiggerid, on 04/12/2008, -1/+14Britney Spears influenced a whole generation of kids to dress and act like sluts, to my knowledge there isn't a widespread rage over bicycles. Sure he's a cool guy but the list is about influence.
- evilblueyoshi, on 04/12/2008, -1/+14Well what ever you do vote a 1 for Rain he cant win again.
- getrealnow, on 04/12/2008, -0/+12"Rain became interested in R&B and Hiphop dancing when he was in 6th grade. As a teenager, he was a member of a boy band called Fanclub. The group was short-lived, and soon disbanded. At that time Rain was having the hardest time of his life."
haha really? boy band called fanclub? WHERE DO I SIGN UP! - BlueSkyfish, on 04/12/2008, -0/+12learn2history. He brought the videogame industry back after it crashed in the early 80's. He has influence on the ENTIRE INdustry, not just Nintendo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Miyamoto - JPOGDNA, on 04/12/2008, -3/+12FAIL.
- Stowz, on 04/12/2008, -3/+11Pfft, Rain
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -1/+9Rain?? Jesus Christ! This is pathetic. It's now official, I've lost all hope in humanity.
- Zzoram, on 04/12/2008, -2/+10Mass voting for Shiggy is good, but you have to mass vote down Rain too. He's got a 300,000 positive vote lead.
- Nidis, on 04/12/2008, -6/+13Not this ***** again..
- beankitty, on 04/12/2008, -9/+16talk about overrated and uninfluential.
- gannondork, on 04/12/2008, -6/+13Where the hell is Rick Astley on this list? That's an online rigging I can get behind. (though I already voted for Shiggy)
- R75700, on 04/12/2008, -0/+6the poll should be split into two categories. Those who influenced positively, and then those who have in a negative way. Then amazing men like Shigeru wouldn't have to compete with idiots like Madonna. Surely then he would be right up there
- cofingp, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6Yeah... No idea who Rain is.
- getrealnow, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5Colbert would use a American flag pole to impale him, while Miyamoto would use the Wii's nun chuck and beat him to death using various SS techniques.
- Shawshanksr, on 04/12/2008, -4/+9nobody cares what you suggest. rick rolling is getting old
- Mpwns, on 04/12/2008, -1/+6he should time's person of the year sure there was video games before him. but ever since he made games you can find little parts of his work in almost every game now. with out mario64 theres no telling how games would be today. nintendo may not be at the top. but they still set the bar on new ideas that everyone copies. nintendo is really the only company out there willing to take risks with new ideas.
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -5/+10This is a list of the most INFLUENTIAL people, not a list of internet fads/memes...
- john2kx, on 04/12/2008, -3/+8Miyamoto was creating cultural icons back in the 80's while George Bush was drunk on his ass, trying to find Jesus..
And while the Bush era is just a *****-stain on American history, Miyamoto still has a ton of influence on videogames today. - getrealnow, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5From the guy who post on Digg
- evilblueyoshi, on 04/12/2008, -2/+6well i think he deserves it more then Britney Spears and Perez Hilton right?
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -2/+6Yes, forget that the man has only single-handedly changed one of the world's fastest-growing communities and revolutionized video games as we know it.
- BlueTunicLink, on 04/12/2008, -1/+5Does voting more than once still count?
- Frozenfuryblade, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4Mario 64 was revolutionary because it was the first 3D platformer that worked. It had the first ever free roaming camera (PC or not) and was amazingly fun. It was also the first game on a console that perfected the controls with an analog stick.
- Edrick, on 04/13/2008, -1/+5Super Mario Galaxy alone is enough.
- madcat033, on 04/12/2008, -3/+6Yeah, his shtick is getting way old. All he ever does is just be extremely overly sarcastic about everything... it's getting REALLY old. He's not really original.
- Dundasbro, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3Who is in the news more lately? Who seems to have the media following their every move?
- Archaic1, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3It never said they had to be a positive influence. If the judging was based only on media coverage (which by coincidence happens to probably be almost everyone's biggest influence) then Neil Armstrong wouldn't even be on the list for the latest few generations.
- bagelmaster, on 04/12/2008, -4/+7And by the way, please tell your fellow Ron Pual-ites to quit ***** putting those damn posters all over the place. Yes, I get it, Ron Paul will save America, blah blah blah. But Jesus Christ, here in Central PA I see at least 30 or 40 of the damn signs on my 25 mile commute to work everyday. Overkill much?
- asdf2000, on 04/13/2008, -1/+4it's not really "shamelessly rigging" when the actions we take are in fact a direct result of his influence.
- Claude1971, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3buried ya douche
- fancyj, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2Half the people on that list should not be considered influential at all.
- Groovemaster, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2Bush is a ***** on American history like Hitler was a ***** on German history.
Germany's reputation never recovered from Hitler, and America's will never recover from Bush. - Frozenfuryblade, on 04/13/2008, -1/+3I think the creator of Digg should be on this list. Completely serious. The instant this hit Popular on digg he jumped from 25 to 4.
