- dafragsta, on 07/19/2009, -0/+62Oh man. I actually WENT to the Nintendo Powerfest stop in Oklahoma City with my cousin in 89(?) and few memories stand out in my childhood as being that monumental. My nerdgasm that day was by far the biggest I have ever had.
They had TONS of games there that weren't coming out for a while for both the NES and the Gameboy, as well as the better parts of the collection released games for both systems. (The Game Boy had JUST came out, but it already had a very impressive collection of choice games.) There couldn't have been a better point in the lifetime of both systems for just the sheer massive pile of quality games that really pushed the limits of some really feeble hardware. We played Batman, Final Fantasy, SMB3, Bases Loaded, Batman (we played the GB and NES versions. They just transcended their hardware), TMNT:Fall of the Foot Clan and Castlevania Adventure on the GB and at least half a dozen others that I can't immediately recall, all the while feeding a massive sugar high on the endless supply free Mario fruit snacks they were handing out. They even had the Nintendo Power Line guys answering questions (which I had filled a page of a spiral notebook with, before I even left the house) patiently about codes, secret locations and playground rumors about minus worlds.
You know that scene in Pinnochio or the TMNT movie where the kids are just out of their ***** minds fulfilling their childish hedonism? It was exactly like that and it was only $7. The whole tournament thing was cool, but it really wasn't the biggest part of the show. That day seemed to last forever and will probably play in the highlight reel in my head when I'm on my death bed.
/big, solitary nerd tear of nostalgia. ;) - InfiniteNothing, on 07/19/2009, -0/+27Dugg for making it a business expense and thus tax deductible.
- doshindude, on 07/18/2009, -1/+23I got the ROM of that cart on an emulator, but owning the actual cart probably is a lot better.
- socivitus, on 07/18/2009, -1/+13Billy Mitchell best not show... he knows what I'm capable of!
- tgc1, on 07/19/2009, -0/+9Awesome story!
- amanilaenvelope, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5Dude! I envy for this kind of stuff, nice man.
- smacksaw, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6Back then it was fun. Now there are going to be these hardcore geeks who will play it down to the millisecond.
- NuclearFriend, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4One definite perk of being a game developer - all my games purchases are tax deductible as "research related work expenses". 8)
- deweyhewson, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3His games are classic arcades, not consoles. I don't think you have to worry.
- finaldrumgod, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3it's so bad you mean
- thenikola, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Actually the original has dip switches on it that are unique to that cart, there are other unofficial games that have the dip switches but they dont function in the same ways. Not that id drop like 5K on a nintendo game for dip switches... http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=23& ... but id think about buying a reproduction.
- chattin, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2You have a good memory.
- daschupa, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Fetch me my power glove, it's so rad.
- Pxtl, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Does the ROM actually get altered by the dipswitches, or are the DIPswitches accessed by ROM code? If the former, couldn't you take a romdump of each permutation of the dip switches?
- thenikola, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2@Pxtl
They decide how much time you have to do each segment of the game. Most of the emulators give it default values for the dip switches, the infos not stored in the rom itself. - Spire3660, on 07/19/2009, -2/+4You could take a programmable cart and dump the rom on it easily. There is no point to the original other then people are retarded for 'collectibles'
- keviniskool, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2This better be the final event at Omegathon this year.
- dkrender, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3I had never heard of this cart before. Sounds like a lot of fun! Off to find a copy of the ROM!
- copypastry, on 07/26/2009, -0/+2Oh ***** those mario fruit snacks were AWESOME.
- skintnoon, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1This has a rather funny discussion at the bottom, with some misinterpreted sarcasm :-P
- mishaneah, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2I've got one of the retrousb remakes and it's crazy how stressed out everyone gets playing it.
- Novamaster0, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1cartridge Remake: http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=23&osC ...
Played one of these at Classic Gaming Expo a year or two ago and it was great, was broke or I would have picked one up. - EverybodyPanic, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2I have a rare pair of old shoes to sell, I was wearing them when I met Michael Jackson, asking $80,000.
- copypastry, on 07/26/2009, -0/+1Any Nintendonerds know why the time limits were 6:21?
- kolobcreek, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2Didn't they already do this on an episode of "CHUCK"? College and high school drop outs attempt to beat a game once dominated by a quiet balding loser in a dead end job who is trying to relive his glory days all to the vintage riffs of the hardest rocking band ever to come from above the 49th parallel?
haha just kidding! its going kick ass!

- glenshaw26, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1If you happen to live in Western PA, you & your cartridge have a standing invitation to come to my house for Thursday Game Night...
- killerpotato, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2He should stop wasting his time with this and get back to work on Lost
- coffeehaulic, on 07/19/2009, -0/+0does this work if I all of a sudden "review" games on a blog?
- ProfessorRiffs, on 07/19/2009, -1/+1LUCKYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
- WDM01, on 07/19/2009, -2/+1No.
- ivan423, on 07/19/2009, -2/+1So? I have The Legend of Zelda. That ***** is nice and shiny.
- FOR3MAN, on 07/19/2009, -10/+4/s?
