kotaku.com — You'll soon be able have a DS station in your home, courtesy of your Wii. To spell that out, you'll be able to download DS demos via your Wii. Welcome to 2007 Nintendo! Or 2006, even.

  • jamie06260, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Wow, if this actually works out and is usable, this would be practically the best thing ever for all of those Nintendo fans wishing that the Wii had an online marketplace like that of the Xbox 360. Granted, the Wii online marketplace will have to be faster... I for one hate the fact that it is soooooo slow.

      • Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They still could have released GB, GBC and GBA games on the VC. They all play fine on a TV (Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player seem to attest to this). This is likely the only method Mother 3 would get released outside of Japan at this point.

      I think that's a little over the top. Xbox live offers a ton of *****, demos, movies, tv shows, exclusive games. PS3s store offers demos, Playstation games that can be played on PSP, trailers and exclusive games. This is just a cool feature for DS connectivity.

        You play the demo of something to establish its worth. You download it and play if it's not worth the money, and you pay for it if it is. So you're saying that not a single game is worth money, but damn if you won't spend a ***** load of time downloading a demo, playing it, and then downloading the rom, for several( possibly a dozen or more) games.

Just earlier today a ton of people were saying how cool it is that you can get Radioheads album for free, and you know everyone downloads music illegally. I own over 450 albums, but i'm not telling people to go buy albums, because they are extremely expensive.
          $40 for a DS game is really pricey. $50 for a Wii game is insane, and $60 for 360/PS3 games is asking for too much.

            You can get their album for free, but they ask you to pay what you think it's worth. Stupid, but chivalrous move on their part, because hardly anyone will admit that it's worth any money when they can just take it. In old-style economics, people would value something based on their resources. If I had 20 dollars, wanted 3 albums, and albums cost 10 dollars each( forget taxes for a second), then I would get the two albums that I wanted most, simple as that. You're not supposed to just get and take whatever you want whenever you want at no cost to yourself. That undermines the idea of value.
            You can consider the cost of the game high, but other people value it at an even higher price still. That $40 is not an inherent attribute of the game. It is the value associated with it by the people who made it in response to the people who demand it, and if nobody demands it, then the makers will associate a different price with it.

    • BuddyDoQ, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Storage capacity. 512mb is not enough for even a shoddy Wii game. If they add external storage support, it may be economically viable, but I doubt we'll see that anytime soon. If they do it, I'm sure they'll launch it with their own branded external device.

      DS games on the other hand (I have more fingers!) are just about the right size, and a great idea if you ask me. I rarely buy DS games because I can't tell which ones I'll like until I play them. This feature will no doubt send me and my 34 dollar monies (+ .085% local) to the store much more often.

After modding my PSP, and modding my Wii, I really don't see the point in spending money on games anymore, except for PS3 ones (because it hasn't been modded yet, and blu-ray discs and drives are expensive anyway). I've boughten about 15 DS games, I think I'd rather sell them and use the money towards an M3 card.
      Do you happen to know where I can get the best deal for an M3?

  • kiiwii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3There's a lot of untapped potential between the Wii and the DS... I hope Nintendo utilizes it more in future games. The Gamecube and the GBA were able to interact via the cable, the DS and the Wii should be able to do that wirelessly.

    For example, the upcoming Cranium game for Wii comes with special glasses so only that person can see the word you have to act out or draw. It would be cool to have the word beamed to the DS instead.

    Next - sell DS games in the Wii marketplace, To stage on the Wii. Download one at a time to play on the DS.
    Next sell a secure ram card and allow me to transfer several from the Wii to the DS and play from the secure ram card via a nice menu on the DS.

    Yep, I can do the same thing with R4DS(which I bought for all of our DS systems for just this reason).
    I don't mind paying for the games, it is the right thing to do, what I hate is keeping track of all the cards!

I have seen more game consoles in my area die because people used them as their main DVD player and killed the internal hardware. A DVD player is like $30 or less now at wal-mart and are less of a worry if they die, at least they are cheap to replace.

  • blupixelz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Is this Nintendo's strategy to create open wi-fi community? Fon and T-mobile are taking on the similar strategy by letting their users share Wi-fi with other users and vise-versa. One thing for sure: more wi-fi -> more DS -> more addicted kids -> happier investors
