- jamie06260, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Wow, if this actually works out and is usable, this would be practically the best thing ever for all of those Nintendo fans wishing that the Wii had an online marketplace like that of the Xbox 360. Granted, the Wii online marketplace will have to be faster... I for one hate the fact that it is soooooo slow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33Wouldn't you think downloading Wii demos on your Wii console would be released before downloading DS demos on your Wii console? What's up with that?
- BuddyDoQ, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Storage capacity. 512mb is not enough for even a shoddy Wii game. If they add external storage support, it may be economically viable, but I doubt we'll see that anytime soon. If they do it, I'm sure they'll launch it with their own branded external device.
DS games on the other hand (I have more fingers!) are just about the right size, and a great idea if you ask me. I rarely buy DS games because I can't tell which ones I'll like until I play them. This feature will no doubt send me and my 34 dollar monies (+ .085% local) to the store much more often. - HA5TY, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24Good! I never actuallt downloaded a demo. I'm not gonna go to Target and look like a nerd downloading software
- blueeyedmonster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19I'm reluctant to take advice from someone who spells it 'easyer'
- GfunkGbuss, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18I SPELL PROPERLY
- johnnycheeks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13That's unpossible!
- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Now Nintendo needs to put two and two together and release Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, and, perhaps, Gameboy Advance games via Virtual Console. I don't care what kind of DRMed official flash cart I need to buy for whatever cost. Just make it happen, Nintendo.
- jeromeerome, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14This is great for my DS but how long until I can download demos for the Wii. Yeah I know there are storage req. but can't they fit it on a 1GB SD card.
- doshindude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11why? it can already handle demos.
- dualscreenman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9The firmware isn't rewritable without modification, except for the user config portion.
- HA5TY, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16Don't Say That......People with a Wii actually want a Good experience
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Me fail engilish?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It's not really 512MB, they have to reserve space on the memory card itself, so it's more like 480MB...even then, you dont have ANYTHING saved on your memory as it is?
- synce, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13I BUY GAEMS
- trunk8, on 10/11/2007, -14/+19I already have this channel. It's called "R4".
- G1MPY, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I've been waiting for this for a while. Nintendo announced it before the Wii's release. Now they just have to come through with their DVD compadible Wii, and make it available in multiple colours...
- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Sure but Gameboy games are more fun to play on the go. Then again, they should allow NES and SNES on the DS too. I'm sure they could write an emulator for it.
- matthewf01, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Definitely Capitalize words in the Middle of the Sentence.
Yea do that. - darkNiGHTS, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9Yeah, the "R4" channel is great. The "demos" are very generous on it, it almost seems like you're playing the whole game.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It does feel weird to go into a stores electronics department and take our your DS and start messing with it and then leaving the store. I always feel like store security is going to tackle me as I head out the door.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Really? Dunno about you, but I think special invisibility glasses are a whole lot cooler than Wii/DS linkup! I want some of those glasses!
- IronTek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, that'd be nice. Get some freakin' WPA support for their Wi-Fi!
- grumbel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I can already buy a 4GB SD-Card for 30€, that is more then enough storage for quite a few Wii demos.
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe you did... maybe you didn't... but Nintendo has been talking about being able to do this for a while. This is just confirmation that is IS going to happen and it will be soon.
"I'll give you a specific example we are planning for. Let's say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii's to their Nintendo DS's. This will, of course, be possible in gaming stores too, but I think users will enjoy being able to do this within their homes. The key merit here is having promotional material delivered to your home, instead of having to go collect it yourself." - May 25, 2006
http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20060 ... - danielsan1701, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wii supports up to 2GB SD cards.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hell yeah, I did the same thing. It's why things like steam and gametap are so indispensable to me. Keep loosing crap. If I could store every game I bought in some big wifi emitting... thingie, and call upon them as I wish. That'd be ideal.
- kiiwii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3There's a lot of untapped potential between the Wii and the DS... I hope Nintendo utilizes it more in future games. The Gamecube and the GBA were able to interact via the cable, the DS and the Wii should be able to do that wirelessly.
For example, the upcoming Cranium game for Wii comes with special glasses so only that person can see the word you have to act out or draw. It would be cool to have the word beamed to the DS instead. - redjarman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Man, I had this idea way back when the Wii first announce Wii-to-DS connectivity.
Sweet! It's finally here! - iofthestorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's a hardware issue I think. On that end, the DS wifi hardware sucks, I get like 20kbps downloads tops from homebrew software. Apparently it's like 802.11b lite, 2Mbit instead of 11.
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3honestly, i don't know why people want DVD playback on the Wii. I have seen more game consoles in my area die because people used them as their main DVD player and killed the internal hardware. A DVD player is like $30 or less now at wal-mart and are less of a worry if they die, at least they are cheap to replace.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Damn, your time must be immensely valuable... Downloading the roms is free, but your time is so valuable that you can't even waste time doing that unless it's REALLY worth it. I guess nothing's worth money to you then, right?
You play the demo of something to establish its worth. You download it and play if it's not worth the money, and you pay for it if it is. So you're saying that not a single game is worth money, but damn if you won't spend a ***** load of time downloading a demo, playing it, and then downloading the rom, for several( possibly a dozen or more) games. - Synn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is great and all but...when is it happening?
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They still could have released GB, GBC and GBA games on the VC. They all play fine on a TV (Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player seem to attest to this). This is likely the only method Mother 3 would get released outside of Japan at this point.
- Schmapdi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Neat stuff - I've seen the demo stations at Target and stuff but yeah - I generally don't take me DS with me into stores. Plus I'd be kinda embarrassed to do so too.
*Knocks little kid over* "Move it, I want to get me some items for my Animal Crossing town!" - mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Good for you Billy, now go to that little yellow bus...yes it's that way, go on.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No you didn't.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Radiohead *wants* you to download that album for free. Nintendo, however, has not allowed you to download any ROMs for free.
- Dan2552, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1A DS demo would be 4MB or less, whereas a Wii demo would be a lot larger.
- jasnmb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the PSP downloads PSP demos straight off the Net...wish the DS could do that
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Doubling my post was intentional... it makes me twice as reliable... Or something.
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You will also be able to download trailers for Wii and DS games as well, apparently.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Gee, it take you all day to think up that absolutely witty little attempt at trolling? Gosh, I wish I was you.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Its digg, it makes no sense at times.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1what the hell is a millenia?
And I don't have to show the long list of games on the 360 and PS3 that are way better than what the Wii has to offer right now. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1R4 4 LYFE
- MagicCake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey I enjoy my PS3 and downloading demos and hi-def movie trailers and stuff like that. What can the Wii do, again? Motion JPEGS? Yeah, that's... that's great...
- spideyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hell of a lot better places to find them than on torrents.
- iofthestorm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, there's a picture of a trailer for Mario Strikers Charged on the famitsu page. Hopefully this will lead to demos in the future, as well as USB HDD/SSD support.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They don't want you to just download it for free, they want you to download it for what you think it's worth. No reason to get technical about all of this. Anal raping for ahawks plz. troll of the minute.
