Beat Four 3D Zelda Games in Only 48 Hours
cameronbanga.com — That's what 4 college kids are trying to do this weekend. Starting at 5PM CST, these guys will try to beat Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, an Twilight Princess consecutively in less than 48 hours. Not only are they playing, but they are also webcasting and live blogging the whole thing. Nerdy? Yes. Crazy? Maybe. Legendary? Definitely.
- 2506 diggs
- digg it
- skullkid700, on 01/12/2008, -36/+10w00t!
I'm watching at least 75% of it!- skullkid700, on 01/12/2008, -21/+4-2 diggs?!
What, I gotta sleep sometime! - z00k, on 01/12/2008, -3/+2They need to start a chatroom on like, stickam or something.
- Godlike, on 01/12/2008, -0/+46Why sit around playing video games when you can sit around watching video of people playing video games?
- smrekar, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1they are going to sleep and take turns. No one should watch this whole thing.
- BearinG, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Why not?
- skullkid700, on 01/12/2008, -21/+4-2 diggs?!
- Familyguykiller, on 01/12/2008, -5/+128Hope they can do it...took me 40 hours to beat Twilight Princess.
- MutatedNantuko, on 01/12/2008, -3/+1Freaking WW took me about that long too, that game had so many cut scenes.
- NSNick, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I wonder how much time just cutscenes will take.
- sevenalive, on 01/12/2008, -1/+15That was your first time through the game though, i bet if you play it a couple of times it will be faster.
- billybob217, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0Then don't forget that you can only go for the storyline quests and skip most of the side ones... Beating it only implies completing the storyline, not every quest... That also would take a huge chunk of time away...
- Icithis, on 01/12/2008, -6/+1It's not hard to do TP in under 10.
- metapop, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3i bet it's even easier to debunk what you just said
- billybibbit, on 01/12/2008, -4/+2if they play more than one at the same time, and use the cutscenes to get further in other games it shouldn't be that hard
- tektalk, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2Tell me, what does 'consecutively' mean to you?
- MutatedNantuko, on 01/12/2008, -3/+1Freaking WW took me about that long too, that game had so many cut scenes.
- Thekirby45, on 01/12/2008, -9/+2woo dugg
- smrekar, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1the real question is, how do we know it wasn't recorded previously and then just play it on the TV in the BG?
- Anliz, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4They are responding to people talking to them in chat live
- smrekar, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1the real question is, how do we know it wasn't recorded previously and then just play it on the TV in the BG?
- Shissy, on 01/12/2008, -7/+1I hope they do it.. but I'm guessing they run out of time by around 14th of TP.
- LordMorpheus, on 01/12/2008, -8/+2I'm kinda guessing we will too, but don't tell anyone
- drsiemon, on 01/12/2008, -1/+10I think it will be done.
- guitarh3ro, on 01/12/2008, -16/+4It's going to take a helluva lot to beat TP in just 48 hours. And what they're doing is also really unhealthy. Oh, and maybe if they spent less time blogging about it...
- carbon12, on 01/12/2008, -3/+111I just did some googling for previous speed runs:
OoT: 2 Hrs, 26 Mins
MM: 3 Hrs, 37 Mins
WW: 6 Hrs, 42 Mins
TP: 4 Hrs, 47 Mins
So if they exploit the games like using 'save warping' in OoT, they can finish in less than 18 Hrs.- coheedcollapse, on 01/12/2008, -0/+40Looks like they're really beating them. They're just hitting the end of Ocarina at 9 hours.
- m1ss1ontomars, on 01/12/2008, -14/+4That's still pretty lame. You can do the entire thing in around 5, without skipping anything important. At 9 hours for OoT, I'm afraid they won't be on pace for WW and TP...I hope for their sake that I'm wrong, but 48 hours is still pretty lame.
- Kazenodeku, on 01/12/2008, -22/+9Even if they don't, it's going to be absurdly easy. A whole 2 days to beat them? Pfft. And they're using guides I'm sure.
Buried. Would have dugg maybe for 24 hours, but not 48.- davethe1st, on 01/12/2008, -4/+11You're absurdly arrogant.
- Kazenodeku, on 01/12/2008, -1/+11Maybe, I guess.
I'm a fan and I've beaten each of the games multiple times, and 24 hours seems plausible to me. Sorry if that's not the case.
I mean, that's 12 hours per game. I don't see that as particularly challenging or digg-worthy.
My point was, this is just "people re-playing video games." A two-day time constraint doesn't make this anything special in my opinion.
Sorry to have pissed anyone off.- Bega, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1the point being they are doing them consecutively. It's hard enough for me to sit down and play 5 hours continuously, these guys are doing at least 5-6x that, which is just impressive.
- sketchylemming, on 01/12/2008, -7/+1And you're absurdly douchetastic!
- Kazenodeku, on 01/12/2008, -1/+11Maybe, I guess.
- NathanielJ, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2...using guides? What, you think this is their first time through the games or something?
- davethe1st, on 01/12/2008, -4/+11You're absurdly arrogant.
- rayxtime, on 01/12/2008, -2/+25You probably got those times from http://speeddemosarchive.com/
While they could theoretically beat the games in under 18 hours, it would be extremely difficult. You must realize that it took many dedicated speed runners thousands of attempts to achieve those times. - JaredXM, on 01/12/2008, -3/+26*sigh* I've never beaten Majora's mask.
- Soave, on 01/12/2008, -1/+7Same, I stopped at the temple that flips upside down :/
- alexkorova, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7You should, it has a pretty cool ending.
- sTiKyt, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2i wouldn't say it has a great ending but definitely has a great boss fight.
Fierce Deity's Mask ftw :D - Lionhart, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1I see what you did there.
sTiKyt you missed the joke.
- sTiKyt, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2i wouldn't say it has a great ending but definitely has a great boss fight.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4When I bought Majoras Mask I decided to buy a strategy guide with it, something I never do. I am glad I did, cause there were so many points in that game that were just random and would have taken forever to figure out. Probably my least favorite Zelda game.
- alastria, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Majora's Mask wasn't as good as OoT (nothing ever will be), but it was a great game with a great plot. The thing that made it just a bit worse than OoT was that most of the game *was* the side quests... The dungeon play was so short, since there were only 4. But I still play OoT and MM on emulator every once in a while.
And, BTW, I beat MM, and found all 52 pieces of heart w/o a guide. - MAGZine, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Interestingly enough -- neither did they.
They quit playing it at the last temple.
Because it kept freezeing, then their ace player passed out, too. They're playing Wind Waker now, then TP, finish MM later. - jvpde, on 01/13/2008, -0/+0Oddly enough I liked MM a lot because I've never been one for the dungeons. Give me an over world and some plot development and I'm set!
- KingBabi, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4Wow, this is too weird. A few friends of mine and I were planning to do this next weekend.
- Rodalli, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3That's what you get for procrastinating! You could have been interweb supahstars.
- samury, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1I never count using a glitch or an exploit as a legitimate speed run.
- coheedcollapse, on 01/12/2008, -0/+40Looks like they're really beating them. They're just hitting the end of Ocarina at 9 hours.
- MSstar, on 01/12/2008, -1/+29I've seen a lot of challenge like this with Resident Evil, but to me Zelda is way more challenging
- ahoyhoy, on 01/12/2008, -7/+1RE is more challenging, Zelda is just time consuming in travel time/cutscenes, especially in WW.
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -0/+16RE is challenging because the people steer like cars.
Oh *****! A ***** zombie! Better run away!
Turn... turn... still turning.... still turning... OK RUN LIKE HELL! - symanfsp, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2In Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil for Gamecube (REmake) you could push down+b to make a 180 degree turn. It made things a bit easier when things became too hectic. I don't know about the other games, though.
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -0/+16RE is challenging because the people steer like cars.
- XYZ1, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0When I remember correctly one guy completed the game very fast just using the knife.
- Namaha, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1What about when you don't remember correctly?
- billybob217, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0It is two knives... One for each hand...
- Namaha, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1What about when you don't remember correctly?
- ahoyhoy, on 01/12/2008, -7/+1RE is more challenging, Zelda is just time consuming in travel time/cutscenes, especially in WW.
- AshamedAmerican, on 01/12/2008, -4/+158Half of that time will be spent in the Water Temple, so they'll really have to crunch that second day. :p
- soot, on 01/12/2008, -0/+57*****, I hated the water temple.
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8Ahahahahaaaa... beat me to it.
- phantasyhero, on 01/12/2008, -4/+13Am I the only one who considers the Water temple the best temple in OoT?
- Syphon8, on 01/12/2008, -0/+23It's awesome looking, and well designed, but it is ***** DIFFICULT.
- chrisbg99, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3You aren't the only one. I loved that temple. In fact Water Temples are generally my favorite temples.
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3I liked Forest Temple the best, but I definitely enjoyed Water Temple. It's just that it was so hard.
- Blandyman, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1It was my favorite, too :)
- Renton, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I consider it one of the worst in MM.
- saucedmike, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Freaking 3 hours to beat it
- jcnjcn, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1I went through it once and got so into I forgot to save and so at the end my N64 crashed. I was so pissed that I had to do it a second time.
- MJDub, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3I always copy a file just before I fight Dark Link so I can fight it whenever I want. I LOVE having that fight. Other than that though, the temple is balls.
- samadam, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I had played it before so when I went back through to play it I followed a guide all the way through the water temple. I still got lost many times. Quite a sense of satisfaction when I beat it though!
- KingBabi, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3I did a run through about a year ago and ***** dark link WOULD NOT DIE. It took about ten restarts of the system before he became beatable.
- ehsteve23, on 01/12/2008, -2/+1dins fire and a few green potions and he goes down easy.
Water temple is not really that difficult, it's just damned annoying constantly changing water levels, but the water bosses (water temple in OOT and lakebed temple in TP) are always so easy! - wondertwins, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1yes i agree with you, the only hard thing about the water temples are the part when you have to change the water levels to go to a certain or to get a new item. But with the rest of the stuff like bosses, they are easy peasy.
- ehsteve23, on 01/12/2008, -2/+1dins fire and a few green potions and he goes down easy.
- whataboutdave, on 01/12/2008, -5/+29I appreciate the awesome skill that goes into speed runs, but I can't escape the feeling that games as well crafted as the Zelda series ought to be savored. Good luck, but I won't be watching.
- diptheria, on 01/12/2008, -2/+5I don't think you understand the love for the games that speed runners have. They have 'savored' the gamplay far more than you ever will. The sheer amount of time they spend playing their games attests to that. A speed run is only the end of their exploration of every facet of the game. Don't watch if you want, but don't miscredit their appreciation for the game.
- alukima, on 01/12/2008, -3/+2Good Luck!
- ahoyhoy, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12I thought of Star Fox for the SNES
- dustPuppy, on 01/12/2008, -1/+21"***** sites going down! We got dugg!"
ahah Good luck guys! - hotbeefman, on 01/12/2008, -5/+50I'm sorry brothers,
In a Homer Simpson voice:
"NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRDDDDDS!"- dturnbull, on 01/12/2008, -5/+13Anyone on digg imo is a nerd.
- sonicjosh, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7At least it use to be that way...
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -0/+9That itself was a reference to Revenge of the Nerds.
- hotbeefman, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1absolutely correct
- dturnbull, on 01/12/2008, -5/+13Anyone on digg imo is a nerd.
- iRoy, on 01/12/2008, -16/+127Nerdy? Yes. Crazy? Yes. Legendary? No.
- Heymann, on 01/13/2008, -0/+0Hilarious!!!
- Skootles, on 01/12/2008, -1/+36I love watching this as the digg effect kicks in.. and their reactions. "412. WHAT?"
- DeadTorrent, on 01/12/2008, -7/+0Reminds me of King of Kong
- deevay, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3why......
- dougbarrett, on 01/12/2008, -0/+15This guy needs to stop saying "What" every time something is announced.
- datagod, on 01/12/2008, -1/+8What??
- gameradam, on 01/12/2008, -5/+1Mirror just if the main site goes down:
http://gameradam.com/four-3d-zeldas-in-48-hours/ - sljepi, on 01/12/2008, -3/+3Stop saying WHAT!
- twiztidsinz, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4Say what again! I dare you! I double-dare you, *****! Say what one more goddamn time!
- felderado, on 01/12/2008, -2/+12I was on it for about 5 minutes. Some guy kept shouting out the number of users watching and some other retard kept saying "WHAAT?" in the most annoying voice.
- hddigger, on 01/12/2008, -7/+1Yeah, I tried to type "you guys are gay" but the chat died.
- Oshi, on 01/12/2008, -3/+4Hey even if they don't make it, it still looks like they're having a lot of fun trying.
Good luck guys- justintsmith, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Why was that comment dugg down??? I ***** hate digg now.
- crazzy88ss, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3lol right now they're talking about how they must have been submitted to digg.
- Aleman360, on 01/12/2008, -17/+8They're really just beating one game four times, if you know what I mean.
- chrisbg99, on 01/12/2008, -2/+12Silly they aren't playing Halo.
- amazinasian, on 01/14/2008, -0/+0No, I don't know what you mean.
- xtox3, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4FIVE HUNDRED! FIIIIIIVE!
- Kupon3ss, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3"It keeps going UP!, we must be on digg or something"
- maf54, on 01/12/2008, -4/+4CRASH IT
- sljepi, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1They have a pretty good streaming server. Flash media server?
- ajmarenco, on 01/12/2008, -2/+1nice idea.
- chrisaug18, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1oh no its starting to lag
- Yarkz, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1I hear them reading about being dugg, and they have a broken chat, they should get on an IRC channel :P
- goyney, on 01/12/2008, -23/+35They're more worried about the chat being down then the game. Seriously, they run into the Spirit Temple, and go *read* both signs, as well as smash some pots for no reason, instead of entering and immediately leaving, wasting time. This isn't a "speed run," it's four guys with nothing else to on the Friday night before the semester starts again. Plus, they are totally bastardizing 3 great games. (Sorry, Majora's Mask is utter crap.)
- drummer1189, on 01/12/2008, -9/+2excellent comment
- random19, on 01/12/2008, -2/+23except that Majora's Mask was ***** awesome.
- Syphon8, on 01/12/2008, -0/+11More fun than OoT, had it been longer and more developed it'd be the best game of all time.
- random19, on 01/12/2008, -2/+23except that Majora's Mask was ***** awesome.
- sevenalive, on 01/12/2008, -15/+7MM kicks so much ***** ass. WW is the one that sucked. Cell shaded BS.
- Edrick, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Wind Waker was artistic excellence.
- stillmitch, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Yes, but it was too easy and incomplete.
- Edrick, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Wind Waker was artistic excellence.
- Zebceponaf, on 01/12/2008, -2/+22Maybe there just trying to finish the games, not do speed runs...y'know?
- Dohko_Xar, on 01/12/2008, -4/+18Wtf man, leave them alone, this is so epic. A weekend full of Zelda is enough for it to rock, and they are broadcasting it to everyone?! + beat them all 4 in less than 48 hours, that's just insane epicness!
- dinostabOMG, on 01/12/2008, -1/+17God forbid anyone have fun playing video games and being dugg.
- clintisiceman, on 01/12/2008, -1/+22Who said this was a speed run, you snob? It's more about endurance and dedication and fun than anything else. And Majora's Mask is ***** great.
- sTiKyt, on 01/12/2008, -1/+9MM had s great atmosphere, Creative 3 day time period that really made players think and had a very dark tone story-line which brings new to the zelda franchise no other zelda game has and Completely goes against the idea that zelda games are all the same.
- Nudar, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Besides it was fun collecting all the different masks.
- drummer1189, on 01/12/2008, -9/+2excellent comment
- tehknotte, on 01/12/2008, -3/+1ew pizza all day
- tehknotte, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1You dugg me down but you know what they're doing? ORDERING PIZZA!
- fernandor93, on 01/12/2008, -1/+10Dugg for webcam feed.
- llamabox, on 01/12/2008, -0/+32Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen!
oh that silly Navi - PwncakesFTW, on 01/12/2008, -1/+26What about Ocarina of Time: Master Quest O_o?!
- spike216, on 01/12/2008, -8/+0Viral Marketing FTW
- Renton, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7I'm going to run right out and buy that 10 year old N64 game!
- jaxontyler, on 01/12/2008, -2/+2I think you should be broadcasting on Justin.tv. That way we could sit and spam live chat lol.
- reed311, on 01/12/2008, -2/+8I can understand the headline... but Zelda is meant to be savored.
- tacojohn, on 01/12/2008, -6/+2They should setup a chat room...
Anyone interested? Join the AIM room "Zelda4in48"- idiggeverything, on 01/12/2008, -3/+8AIM? What are you ... twelve?
- smrekar, on 01/12/2008, -4/+1cool idea, lots of peeps in there
- therusher, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2So... They aren't playing so fast. Or at least not fast enough imo.
- chrisbg99, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3They aren't speed running.
- Rodalli, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I kind of enjoy the fact that they're playing pretty much as they normally would. If they were speed running, it would kind of cheapen the experience.
- SkinnyV, on 01/12/2008, -3/+4Woudl have been kickass if the guy were not just broadcasting a video feed taken from a camera pointed at their tv. I was all excited thinking I would be able to log in and watch a direct feed from the TV screen from a video capture card or something.
- djcreamy, on 01/12/2008, -2/+0Watching the webcast now. Wish the 14yr old sister would chime in. These guys are funny. Good luck!
- Lionhart, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/strychx/Chr ...
- sgtpoliteness, on 01/12/2008, -1/+9I don't know what is sadder...them doing this, or me watching.
Good luck, just the same!- Chubs879, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3You watching.
- tech9, on 01/12/2008, -2/+1wow, i couldn't even beat of one those games in 48 hours even if my life depended on it... gj guys
- rowlodge, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3my god, that brings back memories.
- BigPapaCherry, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6These guy are going to have a bitch of a time in WW until they get the warping song. With the amount of time they're wasting in OoT on pointless pot smashing, WW's ocean is going to own them. I'm not even sure if they'll make is far enough into TP to warp on command. Good luck though, sweet idea.
- xsquirrel378x, on 01/12/2008, -1/+26yep these are the days. watching a podcast of 4 kids playing zelda on N64 on a friday night. ***** A' :'(
- tendonut, on 01/12/2008, -0/+27They should save Majora's Mask for last...they could just keep rewinding time over and over and over.....
- Salgat, on 01/12/2008, -7/+4I need to go over that and show them how to play Wind Waker.
- tehknotte, on 01/12/2008, -0/+9no, it would be better if you stayed put.

Digg is coming to a city (and computer) near you! Check out all the details on our
