gamepro.com — t has come to GamePro's attention that certain parties on the Internet want you to believe that there are no decent games coming out on the Wii. You should not believe them. The Wii has so many great games coming out for it in 2008 and 2009 that we had a hard time narrowing it down just to this list of the twenty-one best, most promising titles.

You'd hope that the console that sells so many could round up some real worth while games. 21 games???...I could count all the ones I like on 1 hand... :( I like my Wii for when people who don't play games come over, but sadly for me the console doesn't keep my attention for long, and even though I own one( mostly for my daughter) I still struggle to understand why it sells other than the price?

        "All those games suck" pretty much labels you as a fanboy rather than a fan. I've owned a lot of systems over the years, and there are always titles that come out on the competitor's platform that I'd like to play. While not a graphics powerhouse, the Wii excels at casual games and motion controls, and there are great entries in both categories on this list -- including the Holy Grail: motion controlled light saber duels.

        Most of the money, time, and effort was made by someone else. He traded me that modded Wii plus $300 for my 60GB PS3 (this was 2 days before the $100 price drop last year), so I just sold my launch Wii and bought another 60GB PS3 2 days later.

        Yes. While its true that I myself have not played the games the list is pathetic and makes me glad I don't have a Wii.

        Also I could easily sell a MODDED 360 for more than cost, just like his wii was modded.

      Buried for sponsoring a company gone wrong. ***** Nintendo and abandoning (don't deny it) the core gamers, and don't you think they catered to enough "casual" gamers!? They are catching up to the amount of games the 360 has, while it has been out a year less. Their ***** is enough to steal their money, but wait folks, and you can buy what the add-on that enables the Wii to do "what it originally was intended to do" (according to Yahtzee and all other sane Non-Fanboy gamers).

      Sony fanboys called Cows? Wrong, last generation maybe, but this generation...Nintendo fanboys are getting milked.

      I especially am looking forward to Tales of Symphonia 2, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers, Wii Sports Resort, Mega Man 9, Wario Land: Shake It and the return of Samba de Amigo (goes nicely with House of the Dead 2 & 3).

      • johnomaz, on 08/07/2008, -6/+2Lets see, I own a Wii and a 360. Both are being RMA'd right now actually. After just under a year of use, my XBOX360 elite (black edition) RRoD on me. Its even the version that is supposed to not do that. Oh well though, not like I can't go outside and do something instead of playing video games. As for my Wii, it is displaying artifacts on the screen. This is because I had WiiConnect24 enabled. Guess what, the Wii is pretty much running while its turned off, but does not run its fans. So it gets pretty damn hot, and slowly bakes the GPU/CPU. Does it still work, yes, but its not supposed to artifact like it does. Google Wii Artifacting and you will see a ***** ton of people with the same issue. Horray for both under warranty.

(I'm looking at YOU, Nintendo E3 press conference...) At this point, most of the games I want play (without shoehorned waggle-gimmick controls for the sake of having them) and look better on other systems.

      Wii Music? Mario Super Sluggers? I'm a Nintendo fan, but honestly, these suck. Where's Pikmin? A new Kirby? A WiiWare New Super Mario Brothers-esque game?

      The decision isn't final yet, but that Xbox360 is looking mighty tempting.

It serves its purpose, but if you want cutting edge games, you need to have one of the other consoles also. I own a Wii, and a PS3. I love them both.

      I think the Wii actually does a good job of sifting out the self declared "hardcore" from the actual gamers. There are 43 games (just made a list) coming out for the Wii that look interesting in 2008 and the first half of 2009. Anyone who can't find at least a few games that pique their interest isn't much of a gamer. My guess is a lot of these "hardcores" don't even know about most of these games because they either don't fall into a select handful of genres or aren't games in big franchises with stupid amounts of hype surrounding them.

  • cozinator, on 08/07/2008, -13/+7No More Heroes is the most overrated game I've played on the Wii. The fights are repetitive as hell, and the open-world environment (i.e. 60% of the game) looks like an utter ***** after playing GTA 4 (or GTA 3 for that matter).

    After I beat Super Mario Galaxy, I've really only touched the Wii to play old Gamecube games, and Wii Sports when I have friends over. (Resident Evil 4 is great, but it's just a Gamecube port with a couple new controls)

    • Loxias, on 08/07/2008, -1/+9I still think No More Heroes is a good game(if you want to call it that, it was more like boss fights and cut scenes connected by stuff you'd rather forget), yes it was a button masher, yes the sandbox world didn't fit in and sucked, but I liked the game for what it really was, a short funny parody of shonen anime. And I'm glad they want to make a sequel, because maybe with all the attention they've gotten they'll fix everything they ***** up in the first one and It will be the awesome game that all the hype from first one had you expecting, or maybe all the hype went to their heads and It will just be the first one with new bosses.

        MK wii and SSB:melee are probably the weakest games on the list. Both shadows of the GC iteration. On a list of must have they don't belong. Wii sports isn't free. It's part of the price of the console. Okami belongs on the list more so then paper mario, SSB:melee, Mario Kart, or wii sports.

        Y'know what. I can sit here and list games all day that make the 360 or the PS3 a better investment than my Wii. The only people who would even try to downplay the fact that the wii gets boatloads of shovel ware and direct ports are the most deluded fanboys.

        Out of 433 titles for the 360 117 of them have scores less than 60 27% of library
        Out of 189 rated for the PS3 only 36 of them have scores less than 60 20% of library

        360: 171 39% of library
        PS3: 85 47% of library
        Wii: 45 11.25% of library

        Not only are the wii games ranked numerically lower but a large amount of gamers outside of the typical casual category are starting to feel ignored. 21 drool worthy games and I anticipate less than 5?

      • Galaxylander, on 08/07/2008, -1/+7Uh, Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart Wii are both immensely better then their GC counterparts.... Mario Kart: Double Dash wasn't that great... Smash Brothers Brawl takes what Melee did and made it better, and gave it more content.

        Over all I agree that most of the Wii games are terrible shovel-ware that developers don't put any effort into, but I disagree with you there completely.

        I don't see exclusives as being as big a deal as some people seem to think they are. Far as I'm concerned they may help with a spike in sales but as long as the platform(s) I happen to be invested in sell enough to remain viable and keep making great games I don't give half a ***** how many consoles corporation X is selling. If someone else can play a great game on a different console well good for them.
