iPhone is for cool people and Android is for geeks.
immediateactionSep 16, 2010
*Sarcasm
supersh1t666Sep 16, 2010
..what about cool geeks?
jdoorjamSep 16, 2010
Jailbreak.
hngrydavinciSep 17, 2010
well done sir
wignastySep 16, 2010
Cool geeks?
rochesterxSep 16, 2010
I see what you did thar
boschmanSep 17, 2010
Nerd is the new cool!
ericedgingtonSep 16, 2010
I think everyone missed the real point: Android users talk too f**king much. It's also why they don't get laid as often as iPhone users.
etjroweSep 16, 2010
True. Chicks do love guys that waste money on useless status symbols.
l800lemmingsSep 17, 2010
cool geeks can run android on their jailbroken iphones
jeffdabeatSep 16, 2010
With the conversations Google and Verizon have been having...I think geeks and nerds alike need to stop supporting Google...unless you want that beautiful handset to be connected to a not so open internet.
elcadSep 17, 2010
Or you could just get an iPhone and see what a walled off internet is really like.
ljseinfeldSep 17, 2010
Disclaimer: The Above comment is utter bulls**t. Thank you.
elcadSep 17, 2010
Well damn, I guess if you make the walls nice enough some won't even notice they're there.
mockSep 17, 2010
funny. i thought my internet came from my isp and wifi connection points. #analogyfail
chiliu78Sep 16, 2010
Actually, from experience (and we're talking about your average smartphone users here), the iPhone seem to do well for people that are "technologically inept" while the folks with Android phones tend to be the ones that want to learn new things.
savageindustrieSep 16, 2010
Droids always lock up an randomly reboot. Iphone doesent... Been through the incredible, the X, and my new Iphone4. Iphone ftw!
inspectorkempSep 16, 2010
Maybe you shouldn't have been running "Task Killers" on your android devices. On second thought, you are probably better off with the iphone. Some people just need to have their hand held to use technology.
t2afSep 16, 2010
i agree, also for technical people who can't be arsed with meddling with their phone. i was flashing roms on my wm device, totally kitted it out. for some reason i don't want to do that anymore.
analjusticeSep 16, 2010
what is "technologically inept"? I have several cpsc profs that use iPhones and I think they know their s**t
inspectorkempSep 16, 2010
I agree with you simply because your name implies that you are against sodomy.
barkingshinsSep 16, 2010
Those who can't do, teach.
andydionSep 17, 2010
failures in the real world, .. i think there was a nice talk by Bill gates explaining the lack of research into education
etjroweSep 16, 2010
"technologically inept". I like that. It's better than the term I've been using: "booger eating morons".
bluepandaSep 17, 2010
Right.. that makes no sense whatsoever. I think you're forgetting the fact that the iPhone was out wayyyyy earlier than these Android phones. So while most people had useless flipphones with no features, some of us were using the iPhone "learning new things".
sethkthegr8Sep 17, 2010
An what exactly is wrong with being a geek?
xclusive1Sep 16, 2010
I own both! so should I call myself a "Cool Geek" :p
decethSep 16, 2010
You should call yourself a compulsive buyer and seek therapy. Or donate some money to me. Paypal plz.
fluvioSep 16, 2010
How can i digg this down?
Tip for the iphone user: maybe google iphone ideas, and you can find a site that says
"Not just for developers
My new web site is not just for developers. Do you have an idea for an application that you would like to see on your iPhone? Brainstorm with other community members. Maybe a developer will pickup your idea and make it reality."
and you know what? there are much more iOS developers, so you have more possibilities than the Android guy!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cory849Sep 16, 2010
"many" more developers. not "much" more. You outed yourself as ESL, fluvio. GET HIM!!
brainflakesSep 16, 2010
"Maybe a developer will pickup your idea and make it reality."
Until it's submitted to the app store and Steve Jobs says "no"
lesoiseauxSep 16, 2010
anyone else expect it to say, "there's an app for that?"
jeffdabeatSep 16, 2010
I was waiting for it...

ant01n3Sep 16, 2010
Do you know if you can use those phones to make calls ?
jrackowSep 16, 2010
Haven't tried it on my Droid, but I'm positive there's got to be a way.
karlhSep 16, 2010
God, I hope not. But I'm not taking any chances. I'm getting an iPod Touch instead.
hngrydavinciSep 17, 2010
At least the iPod Touch can't DROP calls. It's upfront about its abilities... I respect the honesty.
slobdoggSep 16, 2010
The Android, definitely. With the iPhone you'll about about a 75% chance (looking at you iPhone 4)
WreckedEmSep 17, 2010
I got the big iphone. I can't figure out how to make calls. Do I need to buy an app?
wakaheroSep 16, 2010
I can do X on my phone too, even though it's a little uncomfortable.
johntotherescueSep 16, 2010
wow android looks like a lot of work
kamtsaSep 16, 2010
It isn't.
sibtigerSep 16, 2010
You missed the point entirely.
Buy an iPhone.
antialiasSep 16, 2010
I think he totally got the point. The comic was really pretty balanced. For people who want to do all the customization, tweeking and hacking, Android is the better choice. For people who could care less about any of that an iPhone is probably the way to go. I've done my share of installing custom roms, putting emulators on every device you can imagine and other interesting projects but when it really comes down to it most of the geeky stuff isn't very practical and takes a lot of time to get working right.
wussSep 16, 2010
I guess you haven't been up to date with the last year or so of Android Roms. You can 1 button root most mainstream android phones, and also 1 button install an entire library of Roms, themes, modifications, etc. No command lines anymore, no transferring files from your computer to your phone, etc. It's literally as easy as installing an app from the market.
superkendallSep 16, 2010
So is Jailbreaking which gives you all the same benefits.
inspectorkempSep 16, 2010
@superkendall. No jailbreaking doesn't give you the same benefit as loading rooting an android device. Will you iPhone allow you to over/down clock your CPU to enhance performance or conserve battery? I don't think so. Will it allow you to load custom ROMs at all? No. Root > Jailbreak
brownsoundSep 16, 2010
"could care less"
Are you sure about that?
sirmasterboySep 16, 2010
@inspectorkemp
You should probably actually use a jailbroken iPhone before you make this claim. Yes you can over/underclock the CPU of an iPhone after you jailbreak it and you can also install custom roms. You can even install android on the iPhone...
And yes things like wifi, texting, calling and apps all work when you do.
Jailbreaking is gaining root access to the OS and the ability to hijack the bootrom to do things like dual booting iOS and Android on one iPhone. I've done it to my iPhone...
rhoonahSep 17, 2010
I don't think the point is that "if you want to hack, you can and if you don't then don't". I think the point is that you can customize an android phone because it is open where you don't have the same possibilities with an IPhone. It is so ironic how Apple screwed themselves back in the day by locking down their PC market and allowing Wintel boxes to explode... they are doing it all over again with the smart phone.
korberosSep 16, 2010
If the first strip mentioned doing anything that the average person would do, both the Android and iPhone's reply would be that there is already an app available that does that. Android isn't more complicated. It's just more powerful and open, so when a question arises about a certain action, it isn't a simple "Nope, can't do that" response like with Apple.
amaoicanSep 17, 2010
This comic also misses the fact that for $99 per year you can (probably*) write whatever the hell software you want for your iOS device(s). Yes, WHATEVER the hell you want - no need to get Apple's approval. You can provision whatever the hell you want for your device(s). You only start having to deal with their rules if/when you want to publish.
* I say probably because although there is a chance you'd get rejected, I don't get the impression they use this option much.
kjhgfd34Sep 16, 2010
Another iPhone bashing article...
we might as well have The iPhone Sucks permanently on the front page
silentspyderSep 16, 2010
I don't think it's necessarily pro Android either (depends how you look at it).
bignutsquirrelSep 16, 2010
Just make sure to put it in a flash banner so the iSheep will never know.
ljseinfeldSep 17, 2010
Yeah... because flash rocks on Android. o_0
deathweaver108Sep 17, 2010
I sure does on my droid. No more battery drain than watching a movie.
bignutsquirrelSep 16, 2010
Just make sure to put it in a flash banner so the iSheep will never know.
seinmanSep 16, 2010
Yeah, because most people have the time and knowledge needed to create their own Android apps. It isn't just nerds who use smartphones anymore.
In the real world, the average Android user would be out of luck, and the average iPhone user would just download the app for that.
(Before getting buried as an Apple fanboy, let me point out that I own a Palm Pre and I hate my girlfriend's s**tty iPhone. But facts are facts, and the iPhone still has far more useful apps than any other smartphone platform.)
scwatsonSep 16, 2010
The iphone user would just download an app that doesn't exist?
I think you missed the point
mattbrad2Sep 16, 2010
I like how the Pre is flying under the radar. The phone does multitasking far better than Android (and certainly iPhone), has homebrew apps for just about anything you could want and with the latest uberkernal, you can get 1Ghz out of it.
sirmasterboySep 16, 2010
Except of course when you jailbreak the iPhone and install the Palm-Pre multi-tasking clone UI called ProSwitcher.
mabakerbrakerSep 16, 2010
Google drones don't know that you can jailbrake the iphone. Don't ruin their circle jerk.
esfisherSep 16, 2010
FTA: "...and I think if I cut back on my hours at work a bit..."
Seriously? You are going to work less at your job to make an app for your phone!?
korberosSep 16, 2010
With the market getting exponentially larger every day, it would make a lot of sense if the app was one that a lot of people would want... Writing a good app for Android right now could let you quit your job entirely if it got popular.
ahfmakSep 16, 2010
There's an app for X... no?
i208khonsuSep 16, 2010
Linux is free only if your time is worthless.
Doesn't directly apply, but you get the point. (Note: I'm an Android fanboy)
nickedynickSep 16, 2010
That comment is a completely moot point on Digg.
dmbhaggisSep 16, 2010
Can I do X on Digg?
lskatzSep 16, 2010
You can't really do X on Digg until the fix the site. Sorry.
majesticxSep 16, 2010
I wouldn't want to be known as a geek because geeks make everything I enjoy in this modern world. U ppl talk too much S#$%t. go with the more popular iphone. No one cares about what anyone else is doing.
0260Sep 16, 2010
going with the popular opinion usually works relating to everything. why would there be anything else if it's not popular, right?
demdudeSep 16, 2010
The truth is - there are perhaps three or four things an Android phone can do that the iPhone can't. Two of them actually are an advantage and are fairly easily implemented, the rest is a pain in the ass to even get halfway working. And this is assuming you're using a rooted android but an unjailbroken iPhone.
But when it comes to the thousands of things both phones do, the iPhone is faster and more userfriendly in absolutely every single one.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
korberosSep 16, 2010
Oh man, you got me. I certainly can't think of a more inaccurate ending sentence to a comment. Bravo.
demdudeSep 16, 2010
How is that? In every single comparison test out there, the reviewer will state that the iPhone (both the 4 and the 3GS) is faster and more userfriendly in everything it does.
Tell me one thing that both phones do that the iPhone is slower and less userfriendly at, and I'll tell you two things the iPhone is better at.

LOL...I posted proof this is not true and now I have a couple of negative diggs on my comment......haha....the truth hurts
mredofcourseSep 16, 2010
On the iPhone strip, panel #2 should say, "Although there may be an app for that". Panel #3 should say, "Or if not and it's a good idea, you could write your own and make money". Panel #4 should say, "Or try jailbreaking and check Cydia".
And then in one of those post-comic followup things for both:
"Ok, ok, I got it. It works. Check this out.....farrrrrrrt!"
foxifiednutbarSep 16, 2010
Fanboys and their porn-less iphones...
Yeah, thats "cool"...
superkendallSep 16, 2010
The strip would be more accurate if the iPhone side was like "there are four different applications for that". There's an advantage to a vast library.
devenkelling79Sep 16, 2010
actually the second part should be, yea, if you there's 300 apps that do similar tasks, if you start at the highest rated, you'll probably find the exact one you want in 38 seconds.

The entire article misses the point. Replace Android with Linux and iOS with Windows. So what if you have the source to the kernel. So what if there's hundreds of Windows Managers and the QT API's or GNOME API's to allow you to do s**t really quickly. Geeks will remain geeks with their niche markets but the s**t means nothing in perspective of users that will pick up a Windows PC over a Linux one. Completely open, completely closed, look at your audience.
This is from a developer who would care less. Where am I going to get more exposure and more buyers for an app. People would like to live for fun, contribute to the world and all but you think the world can live for free? Let's get real here.
pawelSep 16, 2010
This is why I'm done with iPhone. Even though I can buy parts to fix the screen if needed. I will take my chance. Forget Apple.

contajeerusSep 17, 2010
Factoring in the whole booming field of usability design makes Apple a much better option. PC developers seem to be clueless about the field of usability.
In actuality it's probably a case of how the two computer manufacturing business are structured. I think the PC will never surpass the Mac on usability. Here's why.
It has to do with the right balance of open architecture for developers and closed specifications. Apple has the right balance of openness and restrictions to create the best usability alongside innvovation. Anyone who has ever worked on the Quantel systems might know what I'm getting at here. Quantel has a very closed system and has fantastic usability that still surpasses Apple and Adobe in many ways. Their color palette and gestural interface is still is the best. It's too bad these features aren't shared. They must be copyrighted. But Quantel has lost almost all the market in motion graphics to Apple because they are too insular. Quantel could not keep up with all the new features offered through innovation found in larger markets. So Quantel lost a lot of business because of being to closed. PC's too open, Quantel too closed, I think Apple sits right in the middle.
rssejSep 17, 2010
People talk about how open android is. Which is true; Unfortuntately we have carriers starting to exert more "customization."
jayhawkSep 17, 2010
i bought an EPIC. i liked it, but it didn't have Words with Friends. so i bought an iPhone 4, which does.
actually, the choice for me came down to coverage where i live (and i have 4G, but it was spotty and i couldn't call from the grocery store -- which i need for a healthy marriage). put me somewhere else where Sprint has better coverage and i would have kept the EPIC.
timeshifterSep 17, 2010
In the end of both comics, neither one has what they want.
leamancSep 17, 2010
But there probably is a way to do it with the iPhone. There are apps for damn near everything in the App Store, and if it isn't, I'm sure this geek who is installing custom ROMs on his Android phone could handle jailbreaking his iPhone to get the app he needs outside of Apple's walled garden.
Funny comic, but really it would be more funny if it ended with a little ring of truth.
