- RubberbandLN6, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12There is a big difference is quality once you get used to listening to music in 192kbps or 256kbps compared to 128kbps. Huge.
The beta is also nice and clean. - RJNavarrete, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10There is definitely a difference. Download a song in 128 and then in 192 and you'll be amazed. When I heard "Promise" by Matchbook Romance in 192 for the first time, I thought I was listening to a different version of the song. The difference is that noticeable.
- RandomChu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I took this screenshot for a different purpose a couple days ago, but whatever. Here's a screenshot of a global tag: http://randomch.us/images/stealingqber.png
The default skin is red, but I like the black one a bit better. I'm a bit disappointed about the lack of seriously new stuff, but the AudioScrobbler beta 2 is wonderfully spiffy, so I'm happy. - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Just because some of you are tone deaf don't assume everyone else is.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The majority of people can't tell, no.
But people who do care about the bitrate of their music obviously can. - hindenburg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4great digg, except we can't see anything!
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Give subscribers a higher bitrate than everyone else and then I'll be happy. 128KBs pretty much sucks balls.
5 years ago it may have been good, but not now. - thejokell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Any subscribers have a screenshot? I'm tempted to subscribe just to see all the new stuff...
- Macintosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I actually think the current layout is better...
- ReneRuiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I subscribed to LastFM for a month ($3) but I just didn't see the advantage that would warrant $36/year. At least cut a deal for subscribing for an entire year, jeez.
- Porchman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@scottauth
I hope you can hear better than you can read. He did not say he was listening to My Chemical Romance. MCR suck balls while Matchbook Romance are a much better band. - Funkly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if your going to send us to a test for double blind test, link it.. i want to take the test, but there is alot crap on there i dont have to time to weed through..
- RandomChu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sorry for using up another comment, but I just thought I made the beta really seem lame. There are some rather cool additions, as well. For example, user profiles: http://randomch.us/images/lastfmprofile.png
And secondly, the last.fm index is now your "dashboard". I took this screenshot with the red skin just in cast you wanted to know what that looked like. http://randomch.us/images/lastfmdashboard.png
If you want more, just ask. :P - toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looking it over, it's 36 bucks for a year. Damn, I got a domain and hosting for a year for only 4 bucks more...seriously, subscribers, is there something I'm missing?
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sleepwalkers hit the nail on the head. The majority of people who don't pay attention to bitrate, or even don't know what a bitrate is can't tell a difference, but you want to know something? The majority of people who listen to their music at 128kbps also have probably never listened to it at anything higher. I'm certain that if you were to give most people a track at 92 or 128 and then give them a track that was original source, they'd be able to tell a difference if they were told what to listen for. I think a lot of people just don't know what they're listening for when they are given these blind tests, so of course they don't know which is the better of the two, I admit that when I was downloading music from Napster back in its hayday, everything was 128, and I was happy to have new music. However when I go back today and listen to those tracks on my Shure E3s, you'd better believe that I cringe when I hear the compression.
- norz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2for quality @ 128kbp/s, check latest test comparing mp3 (lame), aac (itunes), ogg vorbis & wma here:

http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=LAME#Quick_Start - krugerpr0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1new black skin is cool :)
- toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wasn't until a few days ago that I started using the Last.fm radio at work. But I rarely get to do that. I honestly just don't that mch of an advantage being a subscriber.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1direct link:
http://beta.last.fm/ - GirSaysDoom13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i looked at that screensot, and in my opinion, that looks WAY too vista. it's really generic-looking, and the buttons remind me too much of the G4 website. the original design was much simpler and better, but i guess i'll have to get used to it...
- Wolfman~K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1last.fm is good... beta is good, but yeah lets get some higher bit rates out there... at least for the people paying for the service...
- loffeecover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For anyone interested, Audioscrobbler 2 - Beta is here:
- http://www.last.fm/group/Audioscrobbler%2BBeta/forum/30705/_/126082 - kypen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21) Go to hydrogenaudio.org and look up the double-blind tests. Chances are, you can't tell.
2) The beta has been out for a couple days now
3) It's just a redesign. Not really many new features. I would have really liked to have seen the ability to view the most popular ALBUMS by an artist, not just songs. - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Their last.fm player is the sorriest excuse for a music player I have ever seen.
- Scaught, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can see the most played albums by an artist... it's the three album artwork images on their page. The first one is the most popular, and so on.
- cidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love last fm been useing it for years
- akatsuki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, while it is cool, there is no way I care enough to pay for it... I think they should just add ads to the radio streams and hope for revenue off of that.
- SpikeLee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0will it be available to normal users?
- legend166, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does it allow you to only submit songs from certain playlists on iTunes? It needs that.
- montiff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I suggest that everyone sign up for lastfm its really cool and free.
It reminds me a lot of digg.
mont1ff - MrCalifornia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow, it looks worse.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11haha, most of my music is 128. I can't tell the difference until it gets down below 100.
- shredomatic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2You can't really tell the difference >128 unless you've got some nice speakers. Most people are still rocking out on the stock ***** Dell speakers that came with their PC. Ignorance is bliss.
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5@RJNavarrete
Your problem is that you're listening to My Chemical Romance, not the quality of the song.
...also, Maximum PC did a test on listeners w/ music quality tests.
They all failed.
The majority of people CANNOT tell the difference. Have one of your friends test you w/ songs you've never heard before. - Llan, on 10/12/2007, -27/+11Noone can. They all pretend they can, much like people pretend that they are better if they have a bigger car.

What is Digg?
