- Kirtan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5conigs: Your right. It's digitally signed by a reputable CA (who's cert is included with the OS) and the author's identity is known and proven. It's just asking if it can read your keychain to verify the certificate signer.
All Good.
I'll dig it. - griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it ever a smart idea of allow someone to gain access to information on your system through a web site?
- MeatFlaps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Is it ever a smart idea of allow someone to gain access to information on your system through a web site?"
Exactly what I was thinking. - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, I'm rather impressed by this. The premise is so sensible - it is hard to just sum up your entire musical collection in a few sentences, but this does do a pretty good job taking a diverse chunk of your music and summing it up in twenty seconds. Still not completely representative of one's taste, but much better than just saying "oh, I listen to a little of everything."
- conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kirtan: how do you figure it's getting sent your iTunes store login info (that's what I'm assuming you meant)? It even states that it can't look at songs purchased from the iTunes music store because of DRM. If it had your login info, it could unlock the songs.
Also, this is pretty nifty, I just couldn't get it to work in Firefox on OSX, had to resort to Safari. - conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2felchdonkey: a note to Kirtan's defense. I believe he was just stating that he had seen the previously seen this. And if you'd have looked in the "who dugg this?" section, you'd know he dugg this. Also, if you looked at his followup response, you'd know he looked into it more.
- macslut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is by far the coolest thing since God created the big bang.
hrvat, it does allow you to do customize based on play count, rating or date added. - griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or is this just a Java App that is downloaded and does the analysis locally on your system and generates the sig. Guess it would be no different than downloading an App.
I am just more and more skeptical of these typed of things. After all, I'm sure the first person to opened a malicious e-mail attachment never saw what hit em. - triclops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If your worried about this doing something malicious you can always download the source and make sure:
http://works.music.columbia.edu/~jason/itsm/itsm-source.zip - chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love it. I think I'll even keep my sig.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0$5 to the first person who can name all of Dashifen's songs in his sig.
- dashifen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had to allow the javascript for the site that was blocked via NoScript but after that it worked like a charm. Very cool idea and my little signature thing worked out pretty well, too:
http://works.music.columbia.edu/~jason/itsm/gallery2.php?name=Dashifen&file=Dashifen.mp3&popup= - caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That reminds me of the movie contact when you are flying away from the earth. Pretty Cool.
- redson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0UNDUGG. Reverse Digg. Fill-IN.
Man, pretty much the worst thing on the Internet is sound starting without my express written consent(Ok, tubgirl is worse, but its ***** close).
Technologically it's interesting and impressive, but if I ever see one on a website and it starts making a noise I didn't ask my web browser to make, I'm gonna lose it. - diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's see if anyone can name any of the songs in mine.
How do you upload it onto the ITSM Site????
http://www.filefarmer.com/diehard2k4/DieHard.mp3 - Terry2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Love this! Ha ha -- what an eclectic mix my sig turned out to be .. am still laughing.
- iobuffa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all it needs now is a nifty button to slap on your website :p
+dig - bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would be more accurate if it could use the songs I purchased from iTunes Music Store.
- armin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0crazy how much access someone can get to your computer just by you clicking "yes"...
- kyle90, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This sucks; it doesn't work. In either Firefox or IE.
- conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow... I can't type.... "...he had previously seen this" not "...he had seen the previously this"
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not sure if i want this thing scanning my system??????? :/
- sexualpotatoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool
- m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"This sucks; it doesn't work. In either Firefox or IE"
Opera prevails over all, yet AGAIN. - jruckman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome! i've been using iTunes on my current machine for over a year, and less than 5% of my tracks are from iTMS, so it's pretty accurate for me. here's mine (50 songs, no artist/album restriction, 2 sec. avg clips, max 3 song overlap, 33 seconds total): http://centripetalnotion.com/media/music/itsm-short.mp3
- Iriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agreed with Meat. I'm not at home anyway, but I think the tin foil hat in me would have won that battle of wits either way.
reporting statistics... - edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like your switching radio stations. Pretty cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To all the Opera zealots out there: It works in Firefox. I just did it. I'm using Firefox 1.5.
- tpv2066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a little messy on the mixes but def f-in cool
- odysseus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, but another prob happens when you listen to DJ mixes, where the end of a song (which you may like) is usually blended into the start of another song (which may suck).
- evhan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Neat tech, lame outcome. No digg.
- nato64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why is everyone so pissy about this? it's awesome!
i also don't understand what's so scary about someon getting 5 min access from my computer. it's not like i have a word named "MY USERNAMES, PASSWORDS, CREDIT CARD INFO AND SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER" - wdog61, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a very big fan of Itunes, but being a cos major and looking at a rather dull winter vacation it might be worth the time to write this up for winamp
- citizenpain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wicked
- benmay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is sooooo frikin cool!!! love it!!!
- Hrvat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hm. Problem is that I have a bunch of stuff in my library that I DON'T listen to (like the stuff I ripped from my high school CD's that I never touch anymore).
I don't want that gone from my drive but it is no longer part of my musical signature (or at least it shouldn't be). I'd rather it did something based on the amount of plays a particular track received. - chillypepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dashifen's starts off with "have you ever loved a woman" by Clapton.. do I win anything?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FireFox suxxx00r, Opera = Ownzzzzor
Alkiver IP: 68.238.52.70 has been banning anyone who edits his warez page! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Cracking_Force - diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jruckman and harlegun, your music sucks. lol
- jruckman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome! i've been using iTunes on my current machine for over a year, and only
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0john lennon would have gotten a kick out of that one. +DIGG
- gModo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Man, pretty much the worst thing on the Internet is sound starting without my express written consent(Ok, tubgirl is worse, but its ***** close)."
ummm, did it really start without your "express" writen consent when you clicked 'play my signature' - Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0crashed my safari. I think I set the limits too high. I will try again with the standard settings.
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0here's what it generated for me:
http://works.music.columbia.edu/~jason/itsm/gallery2.php?name=motorcycleman&file=motorcycleman.mp3&popup=1 - roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0um, Hello it works great if you use a great browser that no one seems to know about "Opera" it works great on my mac, faster than firefox (because of my slow system, not firefox) Most sites that require IE (PC) will work on the mac. (not this site others (you know what i mean))
- creatureoflove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I like this
- cryptic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1nah it worked.
it just wasn't cool at all.
so you can chop up 20 songs into a 3 minute track. SO WHAT. - cryptic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1by 3 minutes, i meant 13 seconds.
- drumman4ever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If only I used iTunes.... I don't like it! At all!
