- icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18btw...does ANYONE have the money figure on how much RIAA has given back to the artists from all those litigation?
i hardly doubt a single cent went back to the artists they were so hell bent on "protecting"...
only thing they were protecting was their $25mil mansion mortgages and their gas-guzzling $300,000 sedan... - billiam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19land of the free, home of suers
- Cronos1388, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Shame on Sirius for not fighting this lawsuit.
Hopefully a case similar to this will make it to the Supreme Court and than what the RIAA has been doing will hopefully be deemed unconstitutional. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11yes they should not have given in.
but think about this: the fact that the RIAA is only getting $15 per unit proves that they don't think people using this will even account for the loss of one album in sales each! - TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Who the hell is modding you down? Mod up from me my friend because you raise a good point. How much from the lawsuits do the artists see? I bet NONE. The artist get shafted left and right, and the RIAA sues everyone and their grandma to get more money they think they've "lost," which in reality I think they've lost practically nothing and just want more to pad their greedy pockets.
- joseph93, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8damn you RIAA *shakes fist*
- haackers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9RIAA is just pissing people off more then they are helping the artists!!
- c5mjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I disagree. "the current devices are set up so you can't transfer tunes to your music collection on the computer or share them with your friends" You can't copy, share, or sell the copy of the song. Its actually more secure then recording music off the radio onto a cassette. I don't think its much different than the XM radio I have now, in which I can re-listen to any song that has played in the last half hour.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6
Doesn't matter anyway, the quality on satelite radio is crap. And if you REALLY want to gank the music, you can jack the XM into your sound card, use software like I have that will record/encode it right to MP3, then cut it up into individual song files. It's the same thing we used to do with tapes, only different tech. /Hack the planet - Yusayoh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The RIAA should stop suing people and trying to get their greedy little hands on money. It's not really helping artists at all really. You might as well take down the entire radio industry. You can record internet so you can have the song. For god sakes, stop suing people. All you're doing is just pissing people off you bastards.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wronggggg
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Answer: Maybe because they are idiots?
Cory Doctorow hit it right on the head. Any industry should know that you do not succeede by suing your customers. - brino11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Save me Jeebus, save me!
- mickmcmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I make a good living from the music industry, and all I can say is "F--K the RIAA!!!". They are a dinosaur on the verge of extinction. Those people seriously don't get it and are a major annoyance.
- Tochi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All I have to say is this: http://www.boycottriaa.com/
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Out of everything I have read today, your comment made me laugh. Been a rough day. Thanks! - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats funny.. the first thing i think is "*****.. whats this XM radio and where can I get me some"
seems the RIAA sued list is a comprehensive list of places to get some good music... - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't think "amusing" is the term I'd use since these people have a good chance of getting the laws they want passed.
- Coded1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not really, like all the new naptsters they let you chose any song you want but this is the other way around. Its kinda like your cable company charging you extra for recording the sunday night movie, they chose the movie you didn't. I guess you are the kind of guy that would pay extra on his own for recording a tv show on your own, eh? We should be payig extra evrey month to these companies anyway they do give us entertainment don't they and there is no set price so from now on we should all add an extra $20 bill on top of your bill to show our appreciation!!!!
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2when the RIAA pisses people off, that *helps* the artists...
It drives traffic to artists websites and away from middlemen...
Thats not speculation - the RIAA just dip into our pockets... they are obsolete - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I want to know is where all the money is going from the sued grandmothers, single moms, and broke college kids is going? Is this their only source of income?
- scotticus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's like saying that the people who are sued by the RIAA shouldn't settle out of court.
Would you fight it or just hand over the $5000? - SoxFanNH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sounds like he was paid off by the RIAA to spew some of their twisted propaganda...
- kampfy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sirius = Clear Channel shills. Not much surprise that the RIAA isn't taking them on.
- xdevit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This makes me sick. Even the MPAA knows that DVR is here to stay..
Very soon the RIAA will be suing memory companies..
ex. Sony's anti-skip technology cached 2min of a song
Karaoke bars (live performance of a copy righted song)
List goes on of what they can go after.. not to mention the new mp3 player you will have to pay 2 cents every time you hit play.. jk
Side note.. This wont happen, the RIAA is going to get OWNED.. I cant wait to see/hear what Howard Stern does about this.. - zwerdlds, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4sirius wasnt sued, they signed a contract 'permitting' them to sell players that could record music. the XM situation is something of a different animal.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1XM is stealing from artists. See my comment below.
- jlabs, on 10/12/2007, -19/+2DUPE!
http://digg.com/tech_news/RIAA_now_after_satellite_radio - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -20/+1Modded as inaccurate. XM pays a broadcast fee to distribute music to their users, and gives them a device to record the music, so that they can listen to the music in a non-broadcast format. Basically they're renting you music (or maybe selling if the songs still work after you cancel your subscription), but only paying record labels radio broadcast fees. It's not much better than what allofmp3 does.
