- darkane, on 12/30/2007, -40/+99This is a pretty retarded list. They have all sorts of 'indie' artists that nobody has ever heard of, but make no mention of any metal bands at all. Buried for metal racism.
- UGM2099, on 12/30/2007, -5/+61This is bound to be the whiniest bunch of comments so far on Digg.
- Xantheus, on 12/30/2007, -20/+53Should be renamed to Top 100 Indie Albums of 2007 - There is hardly any variety :
- deezp1, on 12/30/2007, -9/+34Glad to see Radiohead and Arcade Fire in the top ten, those two albums were amazing, but I do wish "Cross" by Justice was higher (it was 19). That album came out of nowhere and blew my mind.
- sandkiller, on 12/30/2007, -1/+26Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet
- drukqsrainbows, on 12/30/2007, -1/+23if you'd actually listen to the music, there is tons of variety.
- smartguy4932, on 12/30/2007, -7/+28Is it just me or do the top albums resemble each other....alot
- HottisHiatus, on 12/30/2007, -43/+61And Radiohead continues their streak of being overrated.
- antigravit42, on 06/14/2009, -3/+20This list aims to please..and that is why it sucks.
- ZMerlin, on 12/30/2007, -3/+20Where is Reznor's Year Zero? That album kicked ass!
I've never heard of the overwhelming majority of the artists listed in this article. - troyfoley, on 12/30/2007, -1/+18No, but I can do this: *bury*
- Roger, on 12/30/2007, -4/+20I know, they completely forgot about Britney Spears' new album.
- subversive1, on 12/30/2007, -13/+28Trust me,it's just you.
- Steroblo, on 12/30/2007, -1/+15....you can kinda tell that it's going to be heavy indie just by the way the reviewer guy is dressed on the top of the page......just saying......
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -8/+22The new Wilco is fantastic.
- Rheic, on 12/30/2007, -18/+31Looks more like a list of 'What albums you should buy to show other narrow minded indie kids how cool you are.'
Same for Pitchfork's but moreso. - phunlee, on 12/30/2007, -0/+11yeah for real. i'd rather listen to the same tired, computer altered, repetitive, overplayed-overadvertised crap again and again-every five minutes when i turn on my favorite morning zoo. When's that new Kelly Clarkson album drop again? You'd know.
- vincenzo7, on 12/30/2007, -1/+12this list is a mess. The only purpose this list can serve is out of 100 artists, you may find something you may have missed, but the order is all out of whack. Right off the bat, The Veils release came out in September of 2006. You gotta at least get the year right for christ's sake. (p.s. i don't like the veils).
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -12/+23Bandwagon? It's called talent and appreciation.
- skin, on 12/30/2007, -6/+16I love indie music, but to say that only three or four non-indie albums are in the top 100 in one year is ridiculous. The entire purpose of this list was just so the author could prove how hip he is.
- kevlarbaboon, on 12/30/2007, -5/+15Here's what metacritic says... http://www.metacritic.com/music/bests/2007.shtml
- inkubux, on 12/30/2007, -3/+12Torrent or it didn't happen
- hyrate, on 12/30/2007, -3/+12Because the idea that critics might actually like some actually good albums is totally absurd, right? I mean, these people aren't sent albums from every record label under the sun and paid to listen to them, so there's no way they could discover something someone as esteemed as you hasn't heard of.
- itsatrapadbar, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8you might as well not just be metal specific...what about rap, country, classical, etc.?
- JMitch42, on 12/30/2007, -2/+10I'm not saying it should have been #1, or even #20, but Lupe Fiasco's The Cool is an amazing album and should be mentioned.
- Tony611, on 12/30/2007, -1/+8as i lay dying LOL
- TomRemixed, on 12/30/2007, -1/+8While I agree with a bunch of those like Radiohead, M.I.A., Wilco, Spoon, Arcade Fire, and a few others I tend to stay away from these lists. They are one persons opinion. Form your own opinions on music.
- ampersand2001, on 12/30/2007, -3/+10of course it's indie-heavy...it's the only good music going on right now. everything else seems to be stuck in some sort of commercial tie in for some random product the rich old white men want to sell whatever demographic.
I hope to see further destruction of the music regimes in hollywood in 08 and more music from the people in their basements...THAT is where you'll find your next favorite album, not walmart or target. - Phillyzero, on 12/30/2007, -7/+14This is pretty much a regurgitation of the same list posted at pitchfork, metacritic, and any other 'indie' conscious website. There is no 100 best, go decide for yourselves...but if you want some laughs, go look at Rolling Stones' choices for the year.
- JustinHopewell, on 12/30/2007, -2/+9Indie music has so many subgenres, you can't just lump it all together and say it sucks. Indie has just become a word that defines musicians who aren't usually played on mainstream radio stations and isn't made solely to line the pockets of the record companies. And now that more and more people are appreciating underground music, the record companies are on to that, and have successfully suckered in more chumps by creating a false indie image and sound, which is what you hear on the radio, and most likely what you are basing your opinion on. Either that, or you just have a very closed mind. Maybe a bit of both.
- Synn, on 12/30/2007, -3/+10For the all the people bitching...I would love to hear what you think is the best albums of 2007.
- Demistate, on 12/30/2007, -12/+19It must have sucked if there was nothing better than In Rainbows in 2007!
- anderzole, on 12/30/2007, -28/+35Apparently everyone's on the Radiohead bandwagon
- solidus636, on 12/30/2007, -2/+8You suck.
- Grandforks85, on 12/30/2007, -5/+11As much as I hate to say it, "Indie" artists just seem to be doing the most right now. Indie is a pretty broad umbrella, with all types of artists operating under it. While I get sick of seeing radiohead, Okkervil River and LCD Soundsystem on everyone's top 10 lists, those probably were some of the most original music to come out in '07, which isn't saying a whole lot. Mainstream music is really no better.
- Deputydon, on 12/30/2007, -4/+10Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga = Pure Brilliance.
- chicken101, on 12/30/2007, -0/+5Narrow minded? From Here We Go Sublime is Swedish Minimalist Electronic music.
- addicted68098, on 12/30/2007, -5/+10What about Amon Tobin's Foley Room or the Cinematic Orchestra's Ma Fleur, at least put Air's Pocket Symphony in there (although most Air fans hate that album, as a nu-jazz fan it is one of the best. Feist should be higher.
Other then that it was very good, I'm somewhat impressed
Radiohead shouldn't of been in the top 10, they have been going down hill after Kid A - kete00, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5Yeah, since popular music put out so much good music this year.
- Rheic, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4I live in Europe. Thanks for the invite anyway.
- pyromanx, on 12/30/2007, -4/+8This list is just some guy's favorite stuff. It has nothing to do with reality.
- smookyfufu, on 12/30/2007, -19/+23Buried for pretentious indie-ism.
- complexigon, on 12/30/2007, -1/+5You realise this is one opinion right? There's nothing stopping you from making your own list. If we all liked the same thing we wouldn't need to make lists like these now would we.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4I take it that everything after OK Computer makes you want to scream, then.
- hyrate, on 12/30/2007, -2/+6Or maybe, just maybe, different people can like the same albums. Maybe we live in a world where the good actually does rise to the top. Yes, there was tons of good ***** that won't show up on any of these lists, but that has to do more with the taste of people in America than anything else. I could make a 2007 top ten list of German microhouse 12"s, but no one besides a niche audience would give a *****. These are albums that broadly appeal to people with an almost exclusively rock listening base, because that's what people want and so that's what they get in critics.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -2/+6but isn't metal evil and against our religion?
- Shanktown, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4Remember, opinion on music is completely subjective.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -2/+6They are total *****.
- jcroweall7, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4That was the big one that I noticed as missing (the Wu Tang's, too, especially considering Ghostface scored pretty high)
