http://foxforum.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/pope_0 ... - SpeedStix, on 06/09/2009, -1/+49Haha what's funny is that the people making these chains are laughing all the way to the bank.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 06/10/2009, -5/+37*DISCLAIMER* I am not being racist here.
Why is it, that Black people have to have big shiny objects, huge chains, gold teeth, big shiny wheels?. Society has seen many a black guy driving down the road in a 1984 Monte Carlo, all piece of ***** out, with some 8000.00 worth of chrome wheels on it. Are black people programmed to spend their money on toys and not homes, or schooling, clothes that wont be out of fashion in 3 weeks?. They drive Crown Vics with 24's and 5 tv's, but live in section 8 housing. I just fail to see the reason.
Now that was a pretty generalized question pointed to blacks, so maybe I should add that I have personally seen this in lower income places, town like Plano and Frisco TX, you see black people driving Land Rovers and 5 series Mercedes, then again you see 16 year olds driving land Rovers and 5 series Mercedes.
I am just asking, why? why the ***** up priorities in the inner city?. - kenhatesemos, on 06/10/2009, -3/+33lol black people.
- m4ngo, on 06/10/2009, -2/+26...No flava flav?
***** - MicControl, on 06/10/2009, -0/+23These chains are hilarious.. great commentary by the writer on each pic too - "The worst part is that some people probably mistake it for Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince wearing sunglasses." hahaha
- LugaZap, on 06/10/2009, -6/+26Its just rediculous how its 2009 and they are still so dam proud of their giant gold chains (most of them are fake obviously). How can they be so dam unoriginal, showing off gold plated chains and spreading out a handful of $100 bills as if thats alot of money. Besides it wasnt impressive 20 years ago, why the hell do they keep doing it? Seriosuly can you really be impressed by a guy wearing a $2200 chain spreading out $1400 in hundreds? Any bartender can do that after a couple months work. These people have got to come up with some new ideas and new lyrics, hip hop is getting pretty lame.
- dygel, on 06/10/2009, -0/+15I can at least admire the dedication to honesty with the "BIG ASS CHAIN" one. That is certainly properly labeled, if redundant.

- budboomer, on 06/10/2009, -4/+15I never heard of any of them.
- LupeFiasco, on 06/10/2009, -1/+12Usually those guys with the tricked out cars from the inner-city make their money the dirty way. Unless you got a way to launder money, what can you spend it on? Brand new car? no. House? no. Business? no. All you can really spend it on after food is on stuff like jewelery and fixing up old cars.
Moral of the story is, if you're gonna hustle learn how to launder cash! - khalid066, on 06/10/2009, -0/+10"I get the joke. It's a big ass chain and it says "Big Ass Chain."
Surly it would be easier to just hang money from your neck - Rain12913, on 06/10/2009, -0/+10When people come from a disadvantaged economic background (read as poor) they're less likely to have a good mental representation of what wealth and prosperity should be like. In terms of African Americans, their popular culture and its associated role models are sending the message that material possession is the ultimate goal of wealth, rather than buying a home and being able to live a more comfortable yet responsible lifestyle. Now that this cycle has been formed, each new generation grows up with this same false representation of wealth that they aspire to, and that's why you see even these young kids in these pictures with ridiculous chains. Of course there are good examples for young African Americans out there and of course there are young African Americans who break the trend and live truly successful lives, but things won't change on the larger scale until a significant majority of their popular culture is not devoted to violence, misogyny, and materialism.
So to answer your question, no, they are not programmed to spend their money in any one way or another. To believe this would be racism, but more importantly to believe this would be demonstrating ignorance of the powerful effect of social influence. - borez, on 06/10/2009, -1/+10No, no you're all missing the ***** point here completely. A "Big Ass" chain has just the right weight and is perfectly balanced to strengthen the neck muscles resulting in less pressure on the vagus nerve whilst elongating the larynx resulting in a deepening of the voice thus giving a more rounded baritone feeling to the vocal style. Therefore as one would eloquent the phrase: "I is gonna put a cap in yo ass dawg" it no longer merely states that you are going to shoot a sparrow with a bibi gun, but enhances the phrase to the extent where is comes across as I'm going to blow you ***** balls off with this big ass ***** bazooka before placing them in a cardboard box and fedex them to yo ***** mother dawg before stealing your ho and ***** *****... which is the preferred reference.
- KingGorilla, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9Yeah booooooooooooooooooy

- JFitzpatrick, on 06/10/2009, -2/+6Not a single one? Come on man. I'm a boring ass white guy who listens to Rush and other suitable-for-suburban-white-guy-progressive-rock and I know at least half of the people on the list of 'tards-with-chains.
How can you not know the owner of the BIG ASS CHAIN? That mother ***** is on a BOAT! - 2shae, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4*Paraphrasing here*

Rain12913 seems to have a pretty good answer by the way. - JasonHaley, on 06/10/2009, -2/+6I vaguely remember a rapper in an interview saying that rather than putting their money into a bank system that they don't trust (I'm assuming they had bad experiences while living in the ghetto) they just keep their money around them at all times.
Who would have thought that with the current recession and the rise in price of gold (or any "bling") he would have turned out right after all. I'm guessing a guy whose life savings are in a gold chain around his neck doesn't need to worry too much about losing his 401ks. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4Well if you spend more time lowriding in your car of course you want it to look better than your house.
- Fowz, on 06/10/2009, -1/+5As a black man, I feel ashamed.
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -1/+5See how almost every one has used a commercial product as their "signature"
how very pathetic. - aehorton, on 06/10/2009, -3/+6Better T-Pain chain: http://www.spencerb.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/10 ...
- ladykba, on 06/10/2009, -1/+4The cereal box was the most ridiculous, That's gotta be a damn cardboard box with swarovski crystals!

- FacePuncher, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3"Why oh why did i buy this iced out arrowhead?"
- LupeFiasco, on 06/10/2009, -1/+4Instead of being in such hurry to be funny you should actually LOOK at the pic. you can clearly see he has a Mooninite chain on.
Now instead instead of funny you look like a jackass. - minnecrapolis, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3As a human I feel ashamed.
This is done by people of all colors.
If it makes you feel any better, us whites have a few similar shameful issues. NASCAR and Wrestling. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3What I don't get is how some of these largely unheard of rappers have so much money.
I'm talking about the "Teriyaki Boyz", "Yung Berg", "Skool Boy" dudes. I mean, they're no Eminem or Dr. Dre in terms of recognition. I dunno, maybe they got lucky and had a hit somewhere that I haven't heard of, but you'd figure they'd be on the "struggling artist" area, or at least breaking even maybe pulling off your middle-class wage.
I think I need to become a rapper. - d1sturbdapeace, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3That's over 9,000!!! :o
- pablocblanco, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3Nothing's sad about that, they're jewelers, that's their job. None of those chains were poorly executed, just based off of asinine concepts to begin with. It actually makes me happy to know that someone with a bit of talent ended up with these asshat's undeserved and unappreciated money.
- babyphatman, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3'but things won't change on the larger scale until a significant majority of their people are not living in conditions of poverty, violence, misogyny, and materialism."
...there, fixed that for you. - 2shae, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2then get out of your moms basement
- s0nicfreak, on 06/10/2009, -1/+3I'd wear the Transformers one.
