- salivalnz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Oh dear! There's now less manufactured pop music in world.
Good. - offput, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19there's a difference between emo, and painfuly depressing realism.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Considering I don't own a TV...it's pretty easy that I missed the show. And considering it was on THREE nights a week...I'm glad I don't own a TV.
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10the time you spend on digg would be better spent finishing junior high and maybe taking a few english classes. read a book. think about something. go outside. Try and salvage the rest of your childhood, then come back to digg and maybe try saying something halfway intelligent. But for the love of god please stop wasting our time with your childishness.
This is the last I will acknowledge of you until you say something with competent grammar and proper use of the shift key. - drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11He looked like the biggest ***** sucker on that entire show and they picked him. Even a female front would of scored them more points. I have nothing against Canada but I do think that guy is a tool.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10don't insult fifteen year olds like that

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7One big problem was not enough promotion. Hell, I'm a music junkie and I'd never heard of them until about a month ago.
- Arbus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have to admit, I actually watched most of the show. I liked a few of the vocalists quite a bit, and some of the cover songs they chose were good.
When they finally started revealing the terrible songs they'd been working on, I was amazed that the prospective singers were able to keep from laughing.
Failure was inevitable.. As Arkonnan said, the three band members are just personalities. It didn't help that they picked Lukas "Throat Polyps" Rossi as their "singer." The show was pretty entertaining anyway. - UFOcool23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Does anyone honestly care? I would never of guessed a band finding a lead singer in a bad tv games how would of worked, but thats just me
- Bandito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think what everyone missing here is that this story doesn't say anything. Rock Star Supernova didn't break up. They didn't end the tour. They're just not drawing huge crowds at their shows. What this article is pointing out is the shortcomings of how it was handled. On top of it all, it's not from a very credible source at that. Has anyone ever read the NY Post? Its the equivilent to the Enquirer, but tries to take itself seriously on the same newstands with the NY Times, the NY Daily News and Newsday. Please.
What this article is pointing out is how the band was mis-handled from the start. I watched the TV show and still had no idea when the album was even released. For all the money that Burnett Productions put into the show itself, it might as well have done SOME advertising when it was released. This band needed all the help it could right away since noone knows their music. And yes INXS w/ JD Fortune did well touring.... but that's because it drew upon many INXS fans wanting to hear those songs again.... Rock Star Supernova wasn't going to be re-hashing Motley Crue/GnR/Metallica songs.
What I find most disturbing is that this lackluster tour will only hurt the show's chances of returning this summer. To be honest I can't stand all these ridiculous "reality" shows, but I LOVED Rockstar. Why? Because while it was reality TV, the show rocked. I mean twice a week (not 3 times as previously posted) you get a rock and roll show on television. We don't have to listen to the utter crap auditioning (although I'm still not sure how Zayra got through), but the top 15 or so contestants start rocking right away singing a mix of new hits along with classic rock and roll. What could be better?
Personally I found NOTHING interesting about Lukas, but apparently he had a large following. Just not large enough to save this group. - benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6the band was killed by their own irony
- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7In MHO
It is a sad thing especially for the lead singer who busted his ass to get the job. I guess he will go back to living on the streets in Toronto. As for the show - if you really want to see talented people perform then keep watching this program. Their were so many amazing talents that I would actually go out of my way to investage the individuals and their bands - and I do not normaly do that.
Finally, there is no comparison to American Idol (AI) because AI is all about no talent absolute crap! Yes, the final person is given a gateway to musical success but just remember - in the land of the blind the one eyed person rules! - Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yep. Their songs sucked ass. Every single song the band wrote was utter *****. There were a couple of songs written by contestants that were far superior.
- ucbmoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Never heard of them??? How could you miss the show, it was on like 3 nights a week? it's American Idol for "rockers". It stunk from the beginning
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4uhh... that has to be the lamest thing anyone has ever said to me...
yah... american idol makes me...uhh... drool... and i love reality tv.... right...obviously if i hate your favorite show i must love everything *****...
you don't spend much time around people do you? - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I guess it doesn't take much to be considered a "supergroup" these days. Let's see, the most Gilby Clarke did with GnR was record a disc full of cover tunes. Jason Newsted never actually wrote any bass lines for Metallica. He just did what James Hetfield told him to do. And let's face it, Tommy Lee is no Mike Portnoy.
All three of these people are better known for their off-stage antics than their skills as musicians. It's no surprise that people would lose interest after the drama of their reality show died down. - glyciDe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8and The New Pornographers
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7um, his band sucks (save Jason Newsted), and the show is lame. I will hate to my heart's content
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3theres always ***** if you look. the rock music scene today is actually pretty damn good, if you like indie. lots of talent and genuine creativity out there
plus clap your hands say yeah self released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2005 using the internet, allowing them to continue unsigned and only pay for a distribution deal. they make more money per album sold than any other record in history. things are changing, just be prepared to dig through some ***** before you get to the good stuff - LynchMOB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I admit watching RS-INXS & Supernova. I admit enjoying both. Supernova was entertaining but I never liked Lucas. What really pisses me off is the voting never mattered. Nobody but Lucas ever had a chance to win. From the time Tommy Lee saw the Rossi audition tape he said thats the one. Tommy Lee was always GUSHING over Lucas during the show. The producers had to edit it all out so it was not so obvious that the band had already made up it mind when the show started. It was all *****... but I guess why should this be any different then any other SCRIPTED so called reality show.
- LoveWidescreen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@mcnugget
100% agreement. I personally was hoping that Magni would get it, but everyone that I know who was also following the show, whether friends or people at work, agreed that Lukas was freaky to look at and even worse to listen to.
It was clear from the start that they were making excuses for Lukas. Even when he sucked, they'd continually say that he "was growing" and "has potential". What really clued me in what when they saild early in the last show that Dilana had the most votes then they went on to say later that Toby had the most votes. WTF? And when they had the "victory" jam afterwards, it wasn't live. It was prerecorded. I don't know if it's my TV or that I was using an analog cable signal, but I saw clear, DVD (or pre-recorded) combing on the screen when they switched from the "Live" segment to the recorded segment. That just about screams that Lukas was pre-chosen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@glyciDe
You get dugg up. I'm a huge Neko Case fan and totally dig the NPs. :) - jonr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Supernovae was a good name for the band. A bunch of wasted, burned out stars....
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@pigsbladder.
he said "Metallica's second **Best*** Album", not the second offical album. I thought The Black Album was they're second best Album to be honest, Master Of Puppets being first. - LAhazmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sure if you watched the show (Rockstar Supernova) you had your favorite. I thought Rossi killed Rebel and the song he wrote was awesome. The big advantage for Rossi was his sway onstage. He had a confidence onstage better then the rest. That is what sealed the deal.
Hell, Storm, Magni, Toby and Delana are all great and could do as good a job as Rossi.
It came down to who the band wanted. Rossi was the dude!
Ryan Star (rstar.net) was another great talent to emerge from the show. My wife bought his album online for our drive to San Fran. (MACWORLD) visit. It is now one of our favorite albums. Take a listen if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed.
I do plan to see Rockstar Supernova when they come to LA. in October. - LynchMOB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@LoveWideScreen,
Im not sure why... but for the whole season when the band played a new song with one of the singers the camera changed. There might be an actual term for it but for lack of the term it was like the camera speed was slowed down a frame or 2 for dramatic effect or something... I dont know. but it wasnt just the finally that looked that way it was every performance of a new song w/ the band. - mahdaeng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i watched most of that series and was very disappointed in their decision to use that lukas freak
that kid sucks - he can't sing - dirtkahuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Rockstar" is the only real rock and roll show on network TV. The house band is amazing - it's always a trip to hear their versions of the classic rock tunes they perform. I really hope they bring it back this summer.
I saw the DirecTV New Year's show - it really did suck. Newsted was gone, replaced by some unknown guy. Rossi was an unprofessional slob. Must be he really thinks he's a rock star. - bclark303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow!! Go back to your parents basement and stop dragging the rest of us normal Canadians into your delusions TECHBUZZARD.
- Bandito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is a horrible paper with stories that seem to be more sensationalistic than anything else.
- pigsbladder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not wanting to be picky but "Ride the Lightening" was Metallica's second album... AJFA was 4th
- smojo12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jason also co-wrote Blackened and actually had a decent voice when it came to singing classic Metallica like seek and creeping death
- BT1000101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Two of the three supposed superstars - GN'R's Gilby Clarke and Metallica's Jason Newstead - were late-inning replacements that put virtually no stamp on the sound of their legendary bands."
Is this ***** ***** deaf or does he just have his head up his ass? Jason Newstead was on Metallica's second best album "...And Justice For All". I do concede that he didn't write anything, but he didn't ***** have to! Leaving Metallica was both career murder AND suicide. - b0neman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Supernova is a ska band that's been around for a long time. I don't know how long but long enough to have secured the name "Supernova."
Rockstar Supernova is the band a "winner" got to front after defeating all the other singer/contestants on a TV show.
Actually, Rockstar:INXS had *the* best talent, singer/contestents, house band, INXS. Rockstar:Supernova was a cheap lousy ripoff. About half of the singer/contestants were pretty good, the rest were cannon fodder. The house band still was excellent, but the "Supernova" bit sucked major ass. Their songs had absolutely no bite and it was because they were written by the second tier rock "stars." Gilby Clark got kicked out of GnR and even when he was in it, GnR was no longer relevant. Jason Newstead left Metallica(idiot) to form his own non-metal band(Echobrain) that was unlistenable crap. Tommy Lee has tatts, a big schlong that banged Pamela Lee, and no musical chops. Put it all together and you have crap that even Mark Burnett can't sell.
They're not dead yet, but they'd better do something before LukASS is living in his car again. I think if you look up Dave Navarro's blogs on the subject, you'll find out the real deal since he was a producer of the show. - rustedrazor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'hater'?
if you're older than 15, I pity you. - Stephiems, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll agree with most people that Rockstar: Supernova just wasn't that great. There were definitely more talented people then Lukas. I wouldn't be able to stand listening to him for a whole night. What I don't get is all this crap about music being 'too retro' or old. Shouldn't music be judged on if its good or not? And what makes a sound too old? I thought just the opposite. I thought what made the band crap is that they were TRYING to be new. First bad...no guitar solos, what's up with that? Gilby is a good rhythm player, but he is NOT a lead player, so basically they were like most popular rock bands of today....no lead guitar player. Most rock of today is boring riffy crap with a singer who just drones and moans because he can't actually sing, and no talent guitar players who can't even do a bad solo let alone a decent solo. If that's what is supposed to be 'today' then I'll happily stick to 'old' rock bands. I'm 26 and I would much rather see Aerosmith then any popular rock band of today in concert, they may be old, but they could easily beat out the younger guys. I'm sure there are tons of young unknown rock bands who can actually play and write songs, but they aren't considered 'popular' because today it is uncool to actually learn how to play your instrument.
- smojo12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm very glad the Supernova imploded. The show was decent and I liked many of the covers that the singers did.
The guy they picked to be the lead singer was a horrible choice. I was hoping they would have picked one of the girls as they actually had a good sounding voice. So 1st mistake was picking the the emo freaky guy. 2nd mistake was they created horrible music together! It killed me to see Tommy and Jason playing this crappy music. Jason should have never left Metallica and Tommy needs to go get in the studio with Motley again. They aren't good song writers. - pigsbladder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My bad BT, Tony is correct. Although I think AJFA is their best ;)
- lwr2888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Storm would have one if Gilby and Jason didn't think Tommy would have screwed it up by trying to screw her.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm interested in hearing about the "implosion" of this band, but the NY Post article linked here does nothing in the way of actually informing me. Is this what the NY Post is like? I mean, I've definitely read blog posts that were far better written than this article.
- safariscotch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Doesn't help that they sucked from the start Either.
- lepton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Rossi was a bad choice. Did you catch the Vegas New Year show on DirecTV which was their debut? It was awful, just unwatchable, and Rossi's performance was the sole reason. Much, much worse than anything he did on the CBS show, rambling, drooling, pounds of makeup, and very unprofessional. I think that performance killed them.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Umm, aren't ALL reality shows scripted baloney?
- wabbitman1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This show was great. i really enjoyed Navarro, and the house band. I hope it comes back but it looks pretty doubtful. Some of the other singers were really awesome. Lukas was terrible for 90% of the show. He did kill Rebel Yell-his first song he did. From that point on, he was possibly the worst singer on the show.
- mahdaeng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they had to keep from laughing because they wanted to win
who's lauging now?
:^) - fifthturtle48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This article headline is misleading. It implies the band broke up, but it is just an article about how they are unsuccessful. buried for being lame and inaccurate.
- Bandito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, I find that most "reality" shows are just scripted anyway. I had the same feeling that after the first show... Butch Walker proclaimed that Lukas was the winner and the rest was just for the sake of putting on the TV show. Of course I have no way to prove that...
And yes the HOUSE BAND ROCKED.
But please, how can you honestly say that this troll looking, marble mouthed singing guy is rock and roll? He more acted the part than fit it. You couldn't understand a word he sang ... AND I KNEW MOST OF THE LYRICS TO THE SONGS HE COVERED ANYWAY. Please. But I digress. In either case, the show is VERY entertaining. The ONLY reality show I made sure not to miss a single episode of.
Hopefully, this doesn't kill the chances of having another one this summer. - mahdaeng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yep - master of puppets was the best
