- chrisjudah, on 09/03/2008, -0/+12i'm part of the younger crowd being 21, but damn, i still love this man. the way he would handle a guitar was just mesmerizing. even his lesser known songs were all amazing... his spin on st. james infirmary? or how about his spin on house of the rising sun? there are very few guitarists in this world that came close to him in my honest opinion. he melded blues, rockabilly, and country into one damn fine music that he could truly call his own.
- ohnoerino, on 09/02/2008, -1/+12And here's the video...http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=Jerry% ...

I hate it when people die early. The human body is genetically programmed to live to be 130-140. He only made it 1/2 way.
R.I.P., Jerry. You'll be missed. - tyrione, on 09/03/2008, -1/+9Being of the generation to watch Smokey and HeeHaw I doubt you'll get many on this site knowing what the hell you're talking about. Most weren't even a thought in their future parents genes.
- kcpistol, on 09/03/2008, -1/+9Jerry Reed was a real American character, we won't soon see anyone like him again!
- akuma, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8"I hope me and you ain't let bandit talk us into something we're gonna be sorry for, because he's about as crazy as you are ugly"
Glad I'm drinking Coors Beer tonight, rest in peace Snowman. - apothekari, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7West bound was before they picked up the beer
East bound was after
And BOTH were on the Original Motion picture soundtrack
Don't call anyone a "putz" unless you know what your talking about.
Not only is it rude but now everybody knows who the jerk is. - sfrench, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Also...
Wrote the "4 hands 1 guitar" song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4BYMvVvMg0

- panic, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7For you younger folk, he was the bad coach in The Waterboy
- PaulRay, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7Jerry Reed performed the first Concert I ever saw as a kid. It was at a County Fair, seems like a million years ago. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Jerry.
Amos Moses and all of Jerry's other great songs will live on. He touched lives and that's all anyone can really ask for.
RIP. - miggie, on 09/02/2008, -1/+7I loved him as a kid I'm sorry a lot of people aren't digging his death. :-( He also did Miss Mary Sunshine for Scooby Doo. It's my favorite scooby song.
- skyfyre, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7West bound and down, eighteen wheels are rollin',

- RevAradia, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5My eldest used to carry a Bandit "hot wheels" around in his pocket.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4I'm not a huge fan of country music, either, but because of where I grew up, I was exposed to a lot of it as a kid during the 1970s, and there were some fantastic musicians in that genre. If you haven't seen any episodes of "Hee Haw" or "The Porter Wagoner Hour", find some and watch. Some folks will call the folks on there hillbillies, but they were amazing musicians. And see if you can get hold of some classic country recordings from the '60s and earlier. Conway Twitty, the Statler Brothers, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and even Jerry Lee Lewis, just to get started. Back in the day, country had elements of bluegrass, gospel, folk, and blues, to name a few. It bears little resemblance to the overproduced crap that you hear on the radio today.
And we can't forget Johnny Cash. Wow.
And Jeff Foxworthy can't hold a candle to Jerry Clower. If you don't know who he was, look for some of his albums. Not only was he a great storyteller (he wasn't a comedian who told jokes; he was a storyteller who told funny stories), but he was a genuinely nice guy. I got to meet him once when I was 13 and flying home through Atlanta. My parents and I talked with him for a while, and I got my picture taken with him, and he autographed a card for me. A great guy who never forgot where he came from.
And a search of Google Video gives us this. Both Jerry Clower and Jerry Reed together.

- To0pak, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5damn this sucks
what the hell is going on?
people need to stop dying - EnjoyTheFact, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5I'll admit I didn't know who Jerry Reed was outside of Waterboy but GOD DAMN could that guy play. I'm not a country fan by any stretch but I could listen to this guy sing and play all day. It sucks to have to learn about him now that he's passed away. RIP

- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3RIP snowman.
i was always psyched when 'amos moses' used to come up on k-rose in gta san andreas.
hope there aren't any smokies following you wherever you're headed. - JeffersonMingus, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Jerry Reed was the man. We'll miss you!
- RevAradia, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3RIP Jerry "Snowman" Reed. I'll miss ya, good buddy.
- Erythroxylum, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3Man, that's upsetting. I know he was relatively old and he'd lead a full and long life, but I held him in such high regard. I think he's one of the irreplaceable ones. He was a great song-writer, but also a *****-hot guitar player. Such is life, I suppose, but damn, what a bummer.

"I know that you're a-bettin', that here I am in Heaven. I made you all feel fine as best I could!"
"Outbound and gone, layin' in the coffin..." - TomJohn, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4R.I.P., Jerry. What would those "Smokey & the Bandit" movies have been without you? Wait a minute...
Nevermind. -
