http://digg.com/music/RIAA_p2p_file_share_defeat
which was on the front page just yesterday.
this just links to a different site with less information of the same case. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Let the lawsuits against RIAA begin!
- Lung-Dart, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26I notice that as well, no digg and reported. Also saying the RIAA should suck my balls seems to get you're comments dugg so here it is
THE RIAA SHOULD SUCK MY BALLS
Now everyone HAS to digg this comment. its the law. - Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Wow, maybe it won't be much longer before the RIAA has to follow, you know, laws and stuff.
- DrakeGTA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"A judge has agreed and told the woman she can hire her own forensics expert, and bill the RIAA for any expenses." Hell yea, now we can make every case cost the RIAA 10x more then it's worth.
- TekGuru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It all started with Metallica being a money hungry POS that started this whole thing with thier whining saying that 10 cents a song would have been too little. Now what do ya think Hammet!!!!!! Maybe next time youl'll just shut up and take your piece of the action
- DougPenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Awesome, RIAA has to pay for the forensics expert to dig through her hard drive. Hopefully this will become the new standard and everyone they sue will cost them thousands in forensics fees, thus making it a fruitless venture. Way to go, judge!
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think you're confusing Kirk Hammet with Lars Ulrich, Lars was the guy spearheading the thing, I think they other members just didn't care enough to stop him because of all the free publicity they were getting.
I could be way off, that's just what I remember off the top of my head. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9RIAA's lawyers are going to be loving this!!
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16-yeah because the bastards are going to get paid no matter what!
- Mekun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Finally the judicial system is putting a halt to there Mafia tactics. Funny how the industry gets a slap on the wrist for price fixing, but tell us were the real criminals.
- TekGuru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Risk IT ALL!!!" what the hell are you talking about? I think that we have every right to express that fact that were pissed and are going to take everything we can for the thievery that was committed against me when they decided to charge $22.00 a CD back when it wasn't possible to get a single.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The us government doesnt want corporations searching through the computers of average american citizens for no reason. That is the government's job. viva el patriot act!
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"What you mean to say is that you're too poor to afford to buy it. and you'll happily steal it."
I know I'll prolly get buried for this but I had to come out and say it, ive seen so many stories about the RIAA blasting people who supposedly have never file shared before and how everyone is against these bullish tactics. Admiting that they fileshare because of these very reasons and that they'd rather support the artists then say Big Record Labels that end up shafting the artist anyways, But im just gonna come out and say what I hope is an actual clear indication on Human behavior...and that is Id steal music and movies regardless if I had the option to pay the artist directly. Im not gonna lie, Im not broke and have a decent amount of money but id still find a way to get it for free. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Who the hell downloads Metallica. Deftones for the win....
Oh and
RIAA can suck my balls!@@$%@$%$@$@%&^* - dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4just download podsafe music and support independent artists that encourage you to distribute their music in exchange for buying their CDs, t-shirts, and other stuff.
TRUST - What a concept. - wvstephens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just hate to see what happens when the forensic analyst finds the songs that the RIAA said she downloaded. It might make things worse but at least they give you the chance to prove your innocence without the ones accusing you of stealing the music searching for it. I definitely do not want the RIAA pilfering through my computer and saying I have something that I know I did not have. The RIAA does not want to look like fools so I am sure if they were the ones to search through her computer they would find something or at least make it up and say they did.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why not just hire Johnny Cochran?
He could use the famous Chewbaca defense!
Riiiiight! It doesn't make sense!
;-) - 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hell - I'm going to upsize my downloads after hearing that . . .
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3btw, how the hell do they get away with snooping around on our pcs? i mean come on! im just 16 and i know that that breaks at least a few laws. And if you feel obligated to pay the artists then buy music through itunes (artists get more that way, and its cheaper for you)
- brainjuice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actual article linked from Digg story here http://p2pnet.net/story/8247
- anastrophe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7no digg, until you learn the difference between 'don't' and 'doesn't'.
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't know if it was hippies that are responsible for the RIAA, but I digress..... Anyways, this judgment seems reasonable... I am not in favor of stealing music, either. If people hate the RIAA and the mu$ic business so much, show your displeasure by not being so obsessed with downloading 400 gigs of music off of bittorrent... If I don’t agree with the price and/or content, I move on to something that interests me.. By stating that "I hate the RIAA and I think Metallica sucks" and then actually risking a potential lawsuit and jail time (extreme example, yes I know) for something you disagree with sounds like a pretty weak argument to me. Show you hate em' by supporting local music, or creating your own... Since when did people become such rabid music fans that they are willing to "risk it all" for some Brittney Spears/Madonna/50 cent/eminem crapola?
- stik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3RIAA is a joke! I think some hippies wanted to make some money fast and they thought up the RIAA and brought it to music companies, and viola. The REAL big boom theory.
Bacon 1s teh src. ROFL, j/p - sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Old news, article linked doesn't add anything worthy of mention, and the article that the article links to is the same one that was on the front page yesterday. Marked as Old, suggest others do same.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bout damn time someone put them in their place!
- delinka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've seen indications in online discussions (slashdot and others) that a good portion of commenters use these kinds of nouns as "collective" (e.g. "Microsoft are doing something new..."). Whether I agree, RIAA fits the form (e.g. "The RIAA are getting their asses mowed!"). Replace "RIAA" with "They" in the headline. Does it work?
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes! i bet those judges are sick of those ***** suing kids and grandmas
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And they never have? A plaintiff in a civil case isn't endowed with law enforcement agency powers, they don't have free reign to search your possessions or even request that right. How is this a victory against the RIAA exactly? The case is still very much pending.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"A judge has agreed and told the woman she can hire her own forensics expert, and bill the RIAA for any expenses."
If they ever come to me, I'm hiring Gil Grissom :D - celerate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since the RIAA are getting the bill I think I'd look for the most expensive forensic investigator I could find.
- Yamanba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mix tapes are still cool!
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Typical Techdirt sensationalist garbage. This case doesn't change anything.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ust download podsafe music
Podsafe Music is awful. - Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2first of all, I put that comment in quotations..... You were supposed to realize that my statement is to be taken with a grain of salt.... And if you think that you have the right to steal something just because you don't agree with the price (that was arrived at by free market capitalism) then you are truely a sociopath. 14-18 year old girls have dictated the fair market value of music... Keep on stealing music, exposing yourself to lawsuit over some garbage that a room full of producers made. Buy huge hard drives and DVD burners and then spend your valuable time downloading /encoding/burning and then be happy at all the money you saved... I stand behind my comments, the music industry isn't forcing you to buy anything, unless I missed the part where Jessica Simpson's crap is included in food, shelter or water. are CD's going for $22 a pop now? Then the price hasn't gone up in 15 years.
- Bonzodog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, the writers of 'The Matrix' almost had it right;
RIAA(aka Agent Smith): "It seems that you've been living two lives. One life, you're Tanya Andersen, disabled mother of a child on welfare. You have a social security number, don't pay any taxes, and you... help your landlady carry out her garbage. The other life is lived in computers, where you go by the hacker alias "Neo" and are guilty of virtually every computer crime we have a law for. One of these lives has a future, and one of them does not.
Mrs Andersen: "How about I get my One Phone Call, and I give you the finger!".
lol....just seemed shockingly close to the truth.... - Daem0nX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cant rememer where I read/saw it (think /.?) but there are 3 types of people in this area.
1) The person that buys most, and gets some free
2) The person that wont buy much, but gets some free
3) The person that gets everything for free regardless of options
(or something close? - if you know the correct wording please correct me)
Most of the friends I've grown up with that stayed in tech are in cat 3. We don't care if its $20 or $1, if we can get it for free, that is what we'll do. - YumZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"Don't Get?" That's pretty bad.
- LexisNexis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Amen! The only reason I looked in the comments was because of that mistake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Hehehhee....I read this as I glance down on my Utorrent........
- shultzy055, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1He must be foreign
- elratanegra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hello fellow diggers, I posted this story as an addon to the previous post from another site and wanted to try out my FireFox extension EZDIGG. I have been reading and digging many stories since discovering this site and this is my first post. What I really wanted to test with this post was the title. Like mainstream headlines many people say its all in the headline. As for the grammatical error, I copied and pasted and chopped the headline from the link, though grammatical errors are not that big of a deal as getting ones point across... Thanks for everyones diggs and comments.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3dude.. it's supposed to be funny.
To let us to conjugate our verbs not! - patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"YEAH, RIAA..Retarded....Idiot..Ass...Apples! That's what that means! .. I'll see you on Channel 5.. where they show the REAL news!"
- t94xr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I'll laugh if they sued someone for distributing music, who in the end was distributing kiddy porn.lol
- perral1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Thank god, actually a dupe comment that didn't get dugg down!
Reporting this too...
-Perral1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+10I want in this. I'll even take sloppy seconds, but I'm knocking out their teeth first so the ***** can't bite it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Back to Limewire.
- Ajzzz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Awesome.
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -19/+13I want to line up each RIAA memeber and make them give me head. Even though they are all diseased. It's the thought that matters.
