There...has it been said enough times by an old fart like myself that it's lost its appeal?
Good. Now get off my lawn. - versionist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40He is always in NYC subways drumming, usually with a couple of other guys. Always draws a crowd.
- nevenmrgan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41You are a moron.
- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Seen it a thousand times but as a drummer myself it never gets old.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Digg you down, mostly. It's sad to try to pick a fight on the internet.
- sionix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Luke: I beg to differ.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/drums - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Favorite Spots:
Times Square and 34th Street subway stations; in front of the Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway, between 45th and 46th Streets.
Claims to Fame:
Wright has appeared in commercials (Levis), videos (Mariah Carey's "Some Day"), and films (Green Card, Sliver, etc.).
Typical Day's Take:
$300. Wright performs nearly every day for two to three hours or until the cops shut him down—whichever comes first. - MrFur1ous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29That was pretty good, but I could have used more cowbell....
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28too bad Luke doesn't know anything about drums
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Look at his biceps as he is doing the breakbeat towards the end; dude is ripped from beating on cans all day. Someone by this man a real drum set!
- Mosatii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Amazing, according to information on this guy he makes nearly $300 a day doing this.
- Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24yep when i get out i always see them banging on buckets in the subway wearing their wife beater t-shirt. don't be an idiot.
- squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16There's a reason he has such big muscles
- superdog87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12AWESOME! That dude can play! I would have thought buckets would have sounded bad!
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+111) The same way all the other ***** gets on frontpage
2) those are drums. If crude drums as such weren't ever realized as musical instruments, your ass wouldn't have drums in the form you know them today.
Learn your music history before you try to bash, fool. - Ibanez0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11http://youtube.com/watch?v=XoeoRmiSyYs
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Talent? Psh. He's just tryin to get the last bit of paint from the can!
(Taken from the Google Video comments, I take no credit)
I keed. Not only does this guy have drumming talent, but he has figured out how to manipulate each of the "drums" to make different sounds depending on how he affects them, like with his feet. - meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9To any drummer, the only impressive thing here (and it's only fairly so) is his rhythm. Consistent and fairly speedy it is, however, creatvity is where he excels. He manipulates the sounds by moving the drum between his feet by and squeezing it between his feet, which also flexes the plastic, allowing more bounce back, thus faster rolls are easier.
Good vid. OLD vid, but only truly impressive to those who don't play ) - lukeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8i thought that at first, but i think he lifts it up just off the floor and hits it when it is up, and that makes it more boomy, like a bass drum.
- pwnrOiNK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yea i saw him too in grand central ny i guees..
so awesome and he kept going a lot longer time than the video !
good stuff - willangle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9yeah Buddy Rich is the bomb but hey...I wouldn't say that's not a real solo. I mean c'mon, the guy's got talent. Props to him for using it to his advantage.
- jgreath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah....
Screw Paul Bostaph or Dave Lombardo, Slayer should pick this guy up! - JesseJericho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That video didn't have half the energy this guy has... just a bunch of technical stuff and stick-twirling...
- nevenmrgan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9That is awesome.
To those who commented on his being "drunk" and to the dude who said buckets weren't drums, we all eagerly await your amazing talent videos so we can ridicule them cheaply. No, really. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6those are some of the sickest DnB beats i've heard coming from a bucket :-p
no for real, that was cool. - binnis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is Tony Royster Jr. This kid is only 21 years old and has been drummin' since he was 3.
From his website http://www.tonyroysterjr.com he is "proficient in numerous styles, Tony excels at Funk, R&B, Latin, Rock, and Jazz."
Check him out at 12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPncumXZExo
Another solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXjgvKSdWlM
Another http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAlBORA7Fe0
And with his band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9h8-zfns0w - senzafine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@aspec ... I also thought he doesn't appear homeless at all. I think street performers are often looked over as not having a job. Obviously he's got enough talent to be a successful street performer. I love seeing talent like this that hasn't been commercialized.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Naw, man. That'd be too sick. Or hawt.
Seriously. It's slang. Get over it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5All the description says is that he seems homeless. He's in the city wearing a wife beater, and demonstrating a great talent for money.
- aaronw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAEd6GW_fXA says this is Larry Wright
- joncoop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've seen guys doing a similar thing in the subways of NYC. I've actually seen them tuning thier buckets to a certain degree by standing on them and bouncing. That could be why they don't sound completely terrible. Or maybe not.
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -16/+19Big Muscle "sickness".
Seriously though, quit using "sick". We claim it to mean ILL. Also, quit using ILL. We claim it to mean "bad". And another thing: Quit using BAD. it doesn't mean good.
Signed, Gramps. Off my lawn! - rushiku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Such a shame that this guy is so sick, 'cause he's really a good drummer.
Hope you feel better soon buddy! - galador, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Well, since you so love the negative diggs, I'll gladly provide you with mine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, the kid has energy and he can play really fast. He seems to entertain people and if can make his living doing this, more power to him.
Nothing in that video was technically impressive, though... - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unless they freebase it.
- san1ty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is "sick" good now?
Damn I'm getting old... - PhilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If this guy is this good on a bunch of upturned buckets, he could be awesome on a kit.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Neil Peart's drum set is just completely over the top.
- SmokeChiba, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Atually, these kind of preformers are in every major city pretty much. Ive seen a group of them in down town Detroit in the summer, and a few in DC the summer before that. Additionally the Detroit Pistons have a group of 20 of these guys that play at halftime with the same equipment (drum sticks and paint cans), called the "Pistons Drum Line".
- coopergillan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah I'm surprised there are only two people who were annoyed by "probably homeless, but..."
And how do we come up with that kind of conclusion? He probably makes more money than lots of people here. Sorry, but that part put a bad taste in my mouth, unlike the video which was awwwwesome. - cadentsoul, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11You're a ***** idiot. Despite the common misconception, all black people are actually NOT homeless. He's obviously decently dressed and quite talented.
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Chicago , IL has a few regulars that do the same down town, bucket and all. I think $300 a day is prolly being pretty modest.
- kellyschrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the guitar player named "buckethead" is looking for a drummer?
- MrAction408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Larry Wright!
http://www.drummerworld.com/wishlistdrummers/Larry_Wright.html - PaGaNism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yes and yes
- LLXerxes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shut up. We don't care about John Bonham. It's about the person in the video, you dumbass.
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's quick, not really all that fast. Nor is it really that good. He's got some rythym, ok, but anyone even half serious at playing has to.
It's hard really to judge how well he's actually playing when all the buckets sound the same. - PacoDEmu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Not quite what I would call sick, pretty lame.
He plays the same phrase over and over. And its nothing but simple diddles and accents. Maybe he should try learning some hybrid rudiments.
If you want to see real drumming check out Drum Corps International. -
