- bsboard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Wow, I'm impressed. There's some really great stuff in there. I'm seeding it!
- VonCannon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4He isn't lying... great remixes!
- PooPsnooP, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1One major problem...the contest was sponsored by Hot Topic.
- mattbrighton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Fantastic project. Want to do the same thing with film.
- phlezk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3thanks shatter
- igetnospamatall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+96Trent Reznor is just about the only person in the music industry that gets it.
- cybermort, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12the whole problem with the music industry is the industry part.. what happened to music as an art form.. damn you edison, damn you.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Brian Eno and Moby have released full songs as well as isolated tracks on Creative Commons licenses as well. I really respect artists that encourage remixing.
- haiduz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Except that moby sucks
- bitspace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Trent Reznor is the only mainstream artist in the industry that gets it. There are lots of much smaller indie artists that get it too, but they're never heard of because of the corrupt state of the industry as a whole.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I listen to a lot of 'indie' music as well, but no artist has been as outspoken, and as cool as Trent Reznor.
- cybermort, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12the whole problem with the music industry is the industry part.. what happened to music as an art form.. damn you edison, damn you.
- omnivector, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Check out http://www.ninremixes.com
It's a more community driven site, with new remixes added all the time.- Kethinov, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2With over 3000 mixes, including the ones in this compilation.
- jackmaht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7This was such a cool project. I love the way it turned out.
- brwright, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23I bet this album will do just as well if not better in stores because of this.
- cubicz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8so long as people actually BUY the albums. Aside form myself, i dont knwo anyone who buys CDs anymore.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5NIN wouldn't have "open sourced" their music on the internet if purchasing was a prerequisite. These remixes will attract new fans and entice them to buy NIN's back catalogue.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Considering the back catalog is better than the newer stuff, that's a good idea.
- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i kinda disagree a little, i don't think this is more for new fans, as much as its retaining his current fans and pushing them to become part of his music.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5NIN wouldn't have "open sourced" their music on the internet if purchasing was a prerequisite. These remixes will attract new fans and entice them to buy NIN's back catalogue.
- buildbyflying, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0"albums" died and the industry refuses to accept it. By foreseeing this and being innovative artists can keep their sales.
NIN is def on that list (even if the album was.... shrugs.)
- cubicz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8so long as people actually BUY the albums. Aside form myself, i dont knwo anyone who buys CDs anymore.
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Anyone know if Charlie Clouser is doing any remixes for the official release? His mixes were just AWESOME on the UK release of Further Down the Spiral. That man is amazing behind the boards.
- maexus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Clouser is awesome period.
- NtrmDscrptr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I wish I could digg you more than once.
I cannot sufficiently praise Clouser's work on that album.
- vsaint, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Trent Reznor is one of the few big artists these days that realizes the internet is a boon for music.
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Now there's an example of how the internet can be used to build popularity for an artist or upcoming album...and yet most of the large record labels are obsessed with piracy, a moving target that they'll never quite hit. They ought to be trying to figure out ways to use new technology to make them more money, not locking down ***** off customers in a futile attempt to preserve their old business model.
- samadam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Torrent link: http://www.mininova.org/tor/872099
- chomp, on 10/22/2007, -34/+1WOW! Who CARES?!
- samadam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8fans of good, free music do.
- Redtide, on 10/10/2007, -10/+0Cyber Goths love NIN they ***** suck dick.
- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2apparently you did enough to open the link, comment on it, and "prove" to be human....loser
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hey, ***** off. nin is awesome.
- MarrowMan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2people who don't troll like assholes, unlike you, asshole.
- schroeder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's not necessarily about the music itself. It's the innovation of using the internet as a free and open collaboration and advertising and distribution tool in a way that the RIAA would have you believe is harmful to artists. It's great to see a major label band embracing the future and innovating instead of trying to hold an industry to an antiquated business model.
- samadam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8fans of good, free music do.
- subarudog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Great remixes.... Good to see.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Listening to it now -- its very very well done. Dugg!
- sanctify99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3trent reznor has always been FOR the fans and everything he does is proof of this. these remixes are phenomenal and hopefully one day he makes Year Zero the movie (at least the soundtrack is already done =P)
- CancerBomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, he's trying to get it made into a TV series.
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2007/08/13/nins-trent-reznor-pitching-tv-show-based-on-year-zero-concept-album/- buildbyflying, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0are you going to link that already?
- CancerBomb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, he's trying to get it made into a TV series.
- endgame, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Trent=The MAN!!!
You must go see NIN in concert they are absolutely amazing!! - MrKrinkleDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I wonder how long it'll be until the RIAA comes blindly stepping all over this.
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Considering he's done similar stuff in the past, they'd be on shaky ground.
- nailstj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's perfectly legal, all these remixes were created from the source files NIN released on their own site for fans to remix.
- qwell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Really? So, you got a redistribution license with it? Where?
- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The line where Trent says "Here you go, enjoy".
Quit being so technical.
- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The line where Trent says "Here you go, enjoy".
- qwell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Really? So, you got a redistribution license with it? Where?
- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Considering it's his music, they don't really have much say no, do they?
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Aww thought this was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Zero_Remixed
Cool anyhow.- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0me too, but so far this has been one of the best NIN remix albums I can remember, and I have just about every HALO. Im really looking forward to Yero Zero Remixed, especially the Ladytron, Saul Williams and one of the guys from Interpol (cant remember which one) Remixs.
- murch33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I cannot WAIT to hear what Fennesz does with Reznor's work. I loved his contribution to the Oceanic remix album.
- neocr0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just a fantastic idea and a great example for other artists to hopefully follow.
- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1weird how the song "only" from With Teeth album made it on here...its still good tho, very impressed so far with this album. Trent is revolutionizing music as we see, he's a visionary who unfortunelty won't be truly appreciated on a grander scale until probably the actual "Year Zero".
- brozozo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The remix contest was open to any of the songs with multitrack files released.
- krenzo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0This is some top quality work on here. It really spices up the original tracks that felt somewhat bland in their arrangement.
- Haeretik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Agree with the rest, some good remixes here... wish I had the time to give it an honest effort!
- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1"...Taking home the 1st place Hot Topic prize package is..."
I have lost all respect for Trent Reznor as of that sentence.- juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I bet he was forced into it by his record label. He has shown a lot of disdain for emo and stuff like that.
- PoopfaceMorty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5" "...Taking home the 1st place Hot Topic prize package is..."
I have lost all respect for Trent Reznor as of that sentence."
You do realize Trent Reznor has nothing to do with this fan remix contest, right? - nailstj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its a remix contest by a fan site, not the official NIN site. And HotTopic is a good supporter of Nine Inch Nails.
- juicebag, on 10/24/2007, -1/+1The CTV remix of The Beginning of the End is amazing.
- juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Reznor really has it down. I got in to NIN by listening to the stream of Year Zero they had up, and now I bought 3 NIN albums.
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2How is this open source if they're MP3s?
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3^^ Hey look! You win the internet! Seriously now -- Open source as in Open Music Concept
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In what way is it "open" other than the fact that you can download it on the NIN site? I don't even see a license that details whether or not it can be shared apart from the torrent they made.
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think he means that the raw multi-track sessions should be available as music "source". Which from what I understand, they are. :P
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Where can I find them?
- eznet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its the concept... as Justice7 said... the mp3s aren't open source (obviously), the source files for the songs on Year Zero were what were released...
Truth told, those weren't MP3s either... they are AIF(F)s.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3^^ Hey look! You win the internet! Seriously now -- Open source as in Open Music Concept
- MindTrigger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Kick ass, therefor I seed.
- mrshickadance9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1please more people seed. please!!!
- Sic133, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Seeding this, really cool stuff. Thanks to all the folks that contributed, and to Trent for making such fantastic music! Cheers.
- Vedesh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow!!!! one of the best remix ablum i heard in my life time. more artist should do this. NIN FTW!!!
- chokeaduck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Stupid ISP.
Is this going to be placed on Rapidshare, MediaFire, or Megaupload in the next few hours? - anaravia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This must live on...I spread my seed....
- liltarget, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this is a sweet remix! long live the seed!!
- peatah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0The funny thing is it is easy for Trent to make head lines and money as an artist these days.. People want to hear what he is doing and are curious to see whats next from him. I play in a new internet age band and it is really hard to make a noise out all the mess now. Trent still has LARGE marketing dollars which includes a budget for giving stuff away. We do not. Enjoy giving him your dollars, not today, but in the future.
- lazyfisherman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Trent sees where it's all going and is leading the way. Other established bands could do the same thing and capitalize on the fame they already have to make money in unconventional ways (though NIN music is ideal for this kind of promotion).
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1To lead the way he would've had to do this years ago, dude. It's really cool, but many others have done similar.
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Peatah, I'm not a huge NIN fan, but you're a cynical dick.
- nailstj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Of course I'll be giving him my dollars; they are well earned. I'll be one of the first to buy the official remix album.
- lazyfisherman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Trent sees where it's all going and is leading the way. Other established bands could do the same thing and capitalize on the fame they already have to make money in unconventional ways (though NIN music is ideal for this kind of promotion).
- audiophiliac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did anyone check out their PG2 blocked IP's? Will be listening to this for a while I'm sure.
- cyberwired, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1pssst, if you view source, you can find the direct mp3 link which you can download the song from rather than worrying about torrent :)
- Gusy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1megaupload link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q65Q20V8
- geodescent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks!
- Ronnie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Certainly not the first to do this. Johnathan Coulton and Brad Sucks and Phil Collins come to mind..
But it's great to see. OPEN SOURCE ROCKS! - pigvomit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1MARCH PIGS!
- latour, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2awesome :)
- dirtyscarab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Christ 900+ diggs and counting. Big thanks to Matt+ Matt from Painful Convictions and theninhotline for this!
As a contributor on this album, I'm proud to be a part of it and i've got it seeding on 3 different computers. Dig in Kiddies! - pushingreality, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll echo dirtyscarab's comments and also thank Matt and The NIN Hotline for putting the contest together and creating a fantastic package for fans to download and listen to. I too am proud to be a part of this awesome compilation.
- eznet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Been listening to it all night... I likey...
As said previously, big props to the peeps @ Painful Convictions + NIN!
Be interesting to see where this goes: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=9inchnails.com
My compiled info: http://blog.eznet.frih.net/?p=70 - BSDaemon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Honestly, the contest winner (My Violent Heart (Prevention; Rejection) - Dirty Scarab) is better then the version on Year Zero, imho.

- p00pd0g, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2GREAT remixes...
