- keithnoir, on 06/05/2008, -2/+46Dear Trent Rezor,
Dude Stop giving away all your music man.... Its not cool and not how this business works!
Your making us look bad so can you like stop! - Metallica - hannahmar, on 06/11/2009, -0/+32This is just making me way more ***** excited to see them live this summer...
- blind487, on 06/05/2008, -1/+28He chose some very good opening bands. I was disappointed with lasts years tour choices. I'm looking forward to buying some of their music.
- alcoholicdali, on 06/05/2008, -0/+26Check the wallpapers also included in the ZIP file. Seems to carry the theme from "The Slip", which at a certain distance, appears to fit into the Year Zero ARG.
- innovati, on 06/05/2008, -0/+22no, here are a handful of bands I honestly never would have a) bought anything from, b) checked out.
By giving their music away for free they have a greater chance of me either buying an album to suppourt them, or going to see them in concert.
Music is art, it's a service not a commodity. I have a good waiter, I give them money even though I payed for the food. I like music, I don't hear it if it's not free, but if I appreciate the quality you will be getting my money. - Helrauros, on 06/05/2008, -3/+22What can I say, I'm excited. Will download the EP shortly.
I also love the new live line-up. Looking forward to seeing Finck and MJ in action.
Enjoy your tour, north-americans :) - blackfeathers, on 06/05/2008, -3/+20from facebook, this is message fans get regarding this ep:
Free tour sampler EP available now
Nine Inch Nails is pleased to offer a free EP featuring songs from the talented group of artists who will be supporting NIN on the Lights In The Sky tour this summer.
The EP contains high quality, DRM-free, fully tagged MP3 files from A Place To Bury Strangers, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Crystal Castles, Deerhunter, and Nine Inch Nails. The download also includes artwork and a pack of digital extras.
To download, visit http://lightsinthesky.nin.com - ZPWeeks, on 06/05/2008, -3/+19That's what she said.
- duckbillgates, on 06/05/2008, -0/+15I'm a big fan of checking out opening acts' music in advance, so this is perfection.
I had already been listening to and loving A Place to Bury Strangers and Does It Offend You, Yeah? a ton. Love 'em.
So Trent is adding "breaking new bands" to his book of digital tricks, huh? - ChristBehemoth, on 06/05/2008, -0/+15Trent Reznor strikes again!
- dcrumpton, on 06/05/2008, -0/+15Pretty sure Lights in the Sky is reference to the song Lights in the Sky from The Slip album.
- kurupt, on 06/05/2008, -0/+14"I'm looking forward to buying some of their music."
Your comment echoes the sentiment I got when I read this story. The fact that these artists are being featured on (and were supportive of being on) this free sampler and having the backing of Trent Reznor will help them gain even more exposure than just by being on tour with NIN. - hedphelym, on 06/05/2008, -1/+15Pretty damn cool!
Although to be honest, after hearing that Crystal Castles has been stealing songs and passing them off as thier own, I'm not too bothered about hearing them.
Haven't heard any of the other bands, so this should be an awsome little taster for what to expect from the tour. - StrikerObi, on 06/05/2008, -0/+13Wow, I had no idea Does It Offend You, Yeah? was touring with NIN. Crazy. Here's hoping this gets them some more exposure.
- MulletMadness, on 06/05/2008, -2/+14NICE!
- darthgoat, on 06/05/2008, -2/+14F*ck Crystal Castles

- MarrowMan, on 06/05/2008, -2/+11sweet. thanks again trent
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -1/+10"The band were also alleged to have plagiarised several songs from the chiptune community, including "Insecticon", which shares similarity with a song by Lo-bat called, "My Little Droid Needs a Hand", and "Love and Caring", which samples Covox's "Sunday"."
Crystal Castles sounds like a bunch of honest upstanding folks. - dafragsta, on 06/05/2008, -1/+9Yeah, I was honestly hoping Trent would ***** Crystal Castles from the tour for stealing music, but not in the way we've come to accept. Stealing it and passing it off as your own is super ***** lame.
- russizm, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8"I am proud to announce the final personnel lineup of nine inch nails for the foreseeable future. We've added, we've subtracted and we've wound up with unquestionably the strongest lineup I've EVER had. Joining me onstage will be Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Freese and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
We've been working on something really special for these shows and so far I couldn't be happier with the results. We'll be revealing some live performances shortly here on nin.com - in the meantime, we've posted some photos from rehearsals up on Flickr here.
Meanwhile, I assume some of you may not be entirely familiar with the acts I've chosen to join us on various legs of this tour, so we've compiled a sampler EP for you. CLICK HERE to download this for free. If you like what you hear, be sure to show up early to the show (and please remember to support them by purchasing their music, if so inclined).
Best,
TR"

- jaydoj, on 06/05/2008, -0/+7Yeah Bro, It's like we try really hard to make our music. It takes a long time for me to get my snare drum to sound like an oil drum being hit by a baseball bat. Also, I got habits to pay for too, like my douchebag lessons. So stop ***** with my game ok man? - Lars
- BSDaemon, on 06/05/2008, -0/+7Now the reason this is awesome is not even the fact that the music is necessarily free, but the fact that all too often people attend a show and have never heard of the opening band and have no idea what to expect. This gives people a taste of what those bands have to offer (and likely in some cases, lets us know whether we should show up early or not.)
- DearSergio, on 06/05/2008, -0/+7The Grateful dead started free live taping and supported the free distribution of their shows. It's still rockin' today. moe., UM, Gov't Mule, all the good jam bands do it. It's great. This isn't a groundbreaking thing, the down-to-earth bands have been doing this for 30+ years, starting with cassette tape trading, and now huge archives of live, free music on the internet. Digg this and support the spread of good, free music for the enjoyment of all.
- xtmno3, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8Cry me a river. You don't start at the top. How about you go by word of mouth advertising in your local area and try to get some business? Then, once a few people have heard of you, spend a little money getting a little bigger each time.
Your lack of thought on how to proceed is your most likely cause of failure. You don't sell a ton of CDs at first, you do live shows in small settings and work your way up. - BabyWookie, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6Obama should pick Trent as vice president!
- MrNexus, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6Thanks for a meaningless comment.
- daprice, on 06/05/2008, -0/+5I noticed that the downloadable album is labeled "seed five" (back cover image in the extras folder). I assume that this might be like the "halo" numbering scheme, but for downloads. I wonder if he borrowed the "seed" term from bittorrent.
- sukeyscorer, on 06/05/2008, -3/+8Thank you so much Trent, again! Great opening bands, love the new photos, can't wait!
- BSDaemon, on 06/05/2008, -1/+6uhh... it's a smart idea...

Trent is offering more to his fans than any other artists out there.
- Duositex, on 06/05/2008, -2/+6wtf?
- jstem1994, on 06/05/2008, -1/+5never heard of these other bands, but looking forward to trying. Always liked NIN since Pretty Hate Machine.

Thank You - inactive, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3Trent Reznor makes me so happy, especially since The Slip was awesome
- Dustmuffins, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3Why has nobody ***** THE RIAA?!
- hhlinguistics, on 06/05/2008, -1/+4Brilliant! NIN continues to raise the bar. It's great to see more bands approach these types of new music marketing strategies. By giving away free samplers of their concert playlist, NIN will certainly increase ticket sales for their upcoming tour.
- heresy_fnord, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3I'm seeing them August 12th in Knoxville, TN!
- WiIlyWonka, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2It's like free heroin!
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2Trent Reznor deserves my money because he is one of the few musical artists who "gets it"
Last few cd's I've bought were NIN. (lost my old ones, bought em again, in addition to paying for the downloadable content - maexus, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2From nin.com:
