- wild, on 10/11/2007, -3/+70No kidding. Wow. I will be honest, as a fan, I wasn't expecting much. This is encouraging.
- Babel33, on 10/11/2007, -5/+35Awesome. Thanks.
- scoffey, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32this is vintage pumpkins, very very cool
- Dayyve, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29Crazy true story: I used to date a girl that lived right near where Billy Corgan lived. Sometimes when we were sitting on her front porch we would see this odd 6'4" (not sure his exact height, but he is TALL in person) guy walking down the street with really long wavy hair (before he went and shaved his head) with a guitar strapped to his back. I always used to joke with her "oh there goes your boyfriend" (we were like 16, 17) then several years later (gf long gone) I see Smashing Pumpkins on TV and go "HOLY *****! That's that dude! Why oh why didn't I ever invite him on the porch for a beer or bowl?!? I could have been friends with Billy Corgan and had him personally show me some riffs on the guitar! Bah Biggest Life Regret #3.

It's funny that people who think they're Pumpkins fans always cite Siamese Dream and Gish when faulting Billy.
He did almost all the work on those 2 albums, and 100% of the song writing.
He's never going to write another Gish or Siamese Dream because that's not him anymore. None of the Pumpkins albums have been identical to the one before. Go listen. If you're looking for a repeat of something old you're going to be disappointed every time.
That holds true for any artist worth paying attention to, in my mind. - matthewdestroys, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25the vocals are way hot... whoever mixed this song sucks.
- Malakin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19If you grab it out of the cache folder and load it into Audacity, you'll see that it's MASSIVELY over compressed. This is why it sounds like *****. Hopefully it's not going to be like this on the CD, but it wouldn't surprise me.
If you aren't aware of the big problem with wave form compression, it's hit digg quite a few times:

Billy's got an awesome guitar sound going on there - he sounds almost angry. Although I miss James and D'Arcy I know it doesn't have anything to do with the albums as it's pretty much "The Billy Corgan Experiance" where he plays every studio instrument. - flashfast, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Billy sounds angry again. It's going to be a great album thus a great summer!
- mrgeo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14heres the link to the higher quality song from their site:

- zelzin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13It's hard to enjoy the god damn music because of the god damn compression... god dammit.
- Xageroth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Wooot! This sounds awesome. Hopefully the cd version will mix the vocals better tho, sounds like he's singing into a can. ***** awesome song tho!!
- zephc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12if you want the track, go to http://www.flv2mp3.com/
and enter http://pdl.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/spinner/audio/songs/pumpkins_bb_dl.flv as URL and get the mp3 emailed to you. - AMPoet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13 It's a rare band that can breakup, come back together with two of the four original members and be just as good as they used to be. Anyone have any examples?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13"Hopefully thats just a demo though and they mix it a little better."
Seriously! This sounds almost completely unmixed/mastered. Is this really the version they're pressing to CD? As a recording engineer it makes my toenails curl. - juneau, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16@kurisuku
Ehh, that's absurd. Just because we think the mix is off doesn't mean we're not smart enough to 'get it' which is essentially what you're implying. - Bunkalnarf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11This song reminds me of why Smashing Pumpkins ruled in the first place, I am digging this tune.
- Jerome@Gattaca, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11As a long time huge fan...I had mixed feelings about the new album/single...it's taken me about 7 or so listens...but damn...this song is utterly unbelievable. It's a great song/message to the fans...love the lyrics...this song just literally kicks your ass. The line "Then close your eyes you'll see the ange die." - wow.
I don’t wanna fight
Every single night
Everything I want is in your light
You and me go there
To places I don’t know to care
The spoils of all I’ve got were left to scrounge
Don’t let me say this,
but you’re no worse than me,
It’s crazy
We are real, if real ever was, just because
We all feel, feel we’ve had enough,
I’m real, ‘cause someone gave us sound
I wanna be there when you’re happy
I wanna love you when you’re sad,
Can’t stand the morning rain
Get out and take your place then
Can’t stand the blazing sun
Then close your eyes you’ll see
The angel die.
I don’t want to be
Anything for these
A million watts of sound can’t compare
Come along you’ll see the world
The pulse ripples, the crowd unfolds
The current starts to flow and they are on
Oh it’s a white hot soul they want
sinful
You’re real, if real ever was, it’s just because
You’re real, every living soul
Yes I’m real, ‘cause someone gave us sound
Don’t break the oath
I want to love you when you’re happy,
Don’t break this oath
I want to be there when you’re sad
Please bring the pouring rain.
You’re real, as real as any ghost,
It’s easy now,
I’m real, in every living soul
God gave us
Can’t stand the blazing sun
Can’t stand the morning rain
Get out and take your places
I don’t want to be alone
I don’t want to be alone
I don’t want to be alone
If it’s a white hot soul they want
It’s a black heart they’ll get - Kurisuku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9@brstilson-
While it's true Billy did a lot of D'arcy parts in the studio, the fact is, Iha did a lot for the music, contrary to popular belief.
People claim that Iha had very little input, but this isn't true. Actually, he and Corgan went nearly 50/50 on the riffs, even if song construction itself was left to Corgan. But Iha was still a huge influence on the music, and it's hard to argue that D'arcy likely didn't mix things up too. - DrNil8tor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12I am a huge pumpkin's fan, but I am not sure I like this...The rifts are awesome, BUT...I think his voice is to high over the music or maybe it is my settings. I will have to buy the CD to find out. I am thrilled that they have a new CD coming out and can't wait to get it.
- marnaq, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Good grief. Like it.
- FBMGriever, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8If you were a fan of the Pumpkins before this, then there is a good chance you will probably like this song alot. It actually sounds alot like their old stuff. Which IMO, is a great thing. Wonderful track.
- rslaven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7this song is fantastic. i miss music like this.
- jamesey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7awesome song. This is better than everything on the radio from the last 5 years.
- jamesey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8you've obviously never heard Beautiful People or Tarantula
- brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12"2) No Iha and D'arcy makes me cry."
Those two contributed very little to the band in the first place. The Pumpkins were all about Billy and Jimmy. - Kurisuku, on 10/11/2007, -10/+171) It doesn't really sound like Pumpkins to me. It's very different, like Billy is in a different band.
2) No Iha and D'arcy makes me cry.
3) The mix isn't off, Billy has been purposely using '***** up' mixes ever since Machina. If you hate it it's only because you're way too used to the polish sterile blast of modern mixes, or the boring predictability of what was a 90's mix. - acetv, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I think the compression is pretty hardcore. It's 128k MP3 at best. Even if, I've heard better 128k MP3s.
- PittPanthersFan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Fantastic! I cannot wait to buy this. Though, 'Adore' is one of my favorite Pumpkins songs so who knows?
- gnychis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Ahh, the Smashing Pumpkins have realized what made them successful in the first place and have gone back to it... love it
Lets see how long it takes Linkin Park to realize this, maybe another failing album or two like Minutes to Midnight - lukeamotion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I am a huge fan, and really suprised this many people care about it on digg. I wasn't really sure that 1/2 the band could sell records (I hope they can), and now this being on dig gives me hope.
- Iwantawii, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I'm so glad that they've finished experimenting and are ready to rock again.
- sugarsickness, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7This song doesn't sound like Zwan at all really, it doesn't even sound like the Pumpkinsy unreleased Zwan stuff did.
- mrgeo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This should sound awesome live when I see them at V-Fest in september :)
- cambrown99, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Me likey
- tastypastry, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness was my first rock album I ever owned. If it wasnt for that CD I don't know what type of music I would like today.
- willistg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6sounds like it continues from where machina 2 ended. which is a good thing. I wasn't expecting much so this is a pleasant surprise.
- diqq, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Very ill. Very heavy.
Thanks! - derlin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9@Dayyve
yeah man, new interpol song is killer... - acetv, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I don't know about "just as good". This is no Siamese Dream--this is no Gish.
Admittedly I'm making a guess off of one song, but do you honestly expect them to be able to match those? - ciphex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4***** yeah dude.. i've been waiting for this day so long!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7It's an alright track, need to get used to it being a 'Pumpkins' song. And all you ***** need to stop bashing Adore, that album was great, my favorite. Machina? Not so great.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Glad I'm not the only one who hears this.
- kevlarbaboon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Good stuff. I wasn't expecting much, but this is seriously pretty bad ass.
- gage006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Awesome. I cannot wait for the 8 days of San Francisco shows.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4The Smashing Pumpkins has always been a misleading implication. Billy Corgan could be playing with Kidz Bop band and it would still be the same as if he had D'arcy Iha and Chamberlin. Corgan is always gonna be the end all be all of whatever he does. The difference with this and Zwan is that you can't control a supergroup in the same way, which if you've read anything about Zwan you would know why to Billy the Smashing Pumpkins "are" more than able to be resurrected.
I'm curious about Auf der Maur tough. She would have jumped on easily but ended up not being in it. I'm wondering if Corgan specifically didn't WANT anyone else in the band who might have a right to exercise control. As long as he and Jimmy play with unknowns he is free. - qwertyguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4AMAZING SONG... I JUST LOVE THE INTRO....
There a ray of hope that the new SP album will not suck! - meez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Can't wait to see them headline at Leeds festival :D.
- sandfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Doesn't sound like it's been mastered yet... either that, or they purposely wanted the mix to sound *****. Great song though, I'm stoked!
