- OrganicDeb, on 01/28/2009, -0/+22I hope they also focus on music from native tribes and areas of the world facing shrinking numbers and the possibility of extinction. So many native American tribes have only a handful of people left who speak their native tongue, these languages and their music need to be preserved for future generations.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+19RIAA members must be pissed that they didn't think of exploiting these tribes years ago.
- zyklon, on 01/28/2009, -1/+19I think this is a fantastic idea. NG being NG, I don't think they're looking to get rich, but rather preserve dying music. I am behind this.
- onlysc, on 01/28/2009, -1/+18i got a feeling this business venture will bomb
- billbugger, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7"Now Thats What I Call Drum Banging 9" - Available next Tuesday.
- Treshnell, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7Make way for even more Peruvian flute band music!
- clickmyface, on 01/28/2009, -2/+7that was my first though.
my second was, "now i'll have something to listen to while I masturbate to native hotties."
I'm awful. - billbugger, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4*click*click*click*bang*?
- frieddonuts, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Reminds me a lot of the Starbucks record label.
- clinko, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3"Check it, Page 54, deep in the Atlantic
I'm the Alvin, yo mom's the Titanic. " - spookyttws, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4This seems like the worst possible time (at least economically) to try to spread your brand into a completely new section of the entertainment industry. That said, I'm interested in what type of talent they'll be signing.
- nextbigthang, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3first group to sign: Peruvian flute band.
- d3dm, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3What makes you think that the authors of the works National Geographic are producing won't be represented by the RIAA?
- stjoad, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3i hear lemurs are excellent singers
- loggia, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2As someone who used to work at National Geographic, I can tell you that business wise, these people have no idea what they're doing. They put one of the world's most respected brands on cheap toys and granola.
WTF?
It's because Geographic is both a company and a society. Their management is like an old world boy's club where people with lofty sounding credentials and names get jobs when they have no clue what they're doing. Pretty much anyone with any talent eventually goes to Discovery Communications.
If you saying, wait a second, what about their world class photographers and documentary filmmakers? Oh, well, most of the time none of those people actually work for NG directly. And NG is famous for its adversarial relationship with those very people who make them famous. - Sean42, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Natty G Records
Word yo. - Adam420, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Nat Geo
- burkish127, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2I would try and save those people before I get all freaked out about preserving their music.
- schwack, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1To get a chance to harvest and enjoy some of the music, the composers and musicians who perform behind so many breathtaking scenes.. One thing our economy hasn't taken away just yet, PBS, NPR, and Nat-Geo to name a few!
- PGPirate, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1"Kings of the Jungle" or "Volcanoes Rock"; who will be the first #1 hit?
- Smuikas, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1They sing with their tails!

/lionking - Nboy514, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1I can't wait to hear some Papua New Guinea Metal!
- ashwinmudigonda, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1Yes! Finally! I have given up trying to find the awesome background score for some of their documentaries! I hope they have an option to download select mp3's as I am not big into orchestra stuff.

- ThaDRD, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1"Nat Geo is the label that pays me."
- ashwinmudigonda, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1I remember watching a documentary about the guillotine. There was a haunting piano track that I spent months trying to find. No luck. I hope NatGeo can release these as paid mp3's to download. They lose nothing and we gain great stuff!
- AmandaQ, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1I was just thinking today, "Where can I get a good recording of some whale song?"
Seriously. I was. - highonfire, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1unless they're going to be bringing some awesome japanese hard rock or indian (as in asia) heavy metal i don't care. this will probably just end up being some "highly cultural" crap bought by smug prius driving *****
- drgmdp, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1please don't do that again
- 4NDr01D, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1at least its not Natty Bo!

- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1RIAA represents companies, not individual artists.
- dstz, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1There are labels for ethnomusicology, one that i know well is a specialized Radio France label, Ocora, who record such music since 1958. There are others, though this one is very exhaustive.

- kellyut, on 02/02/2009, -0/+0Cool idea, but I can't imagine it being all that popular.
- bizzywho, on 01/29/2009, -0/+0Guinea pirates will steal yo' songs!
- aufte, on 01/28/2009, -1/+1It's all fun and nice to say that, but honestly, when's the last time you looked up the Unkbunto tribe of southern Africa? Or tried to learn a dying native tongue?
- clickmyface, on 01/28/2009, -2/+1Every rockband drummers dream!
"Hey mom, I got a record deal!!"
"With who!?!!"
"National Geographic!!!!" - retrokid908, on 01/28/2009, -4/+1"Yo did u cop that new Nat Geo!"
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -4/+1i'd rather listen to that than Kanye West's faggotry.
- DrProfessional, on 01/28/2009, -4/+0Why?
